For all we care, this might as well have been Clear Curaçao – no one would taste the difference.

EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel carries lightly toasted oak aromas, with dried figs and butterscotch. The first sip brings forward flavours of sweetness balanced with tobacco and dark spices. The finish is sufficiently long to prepare the palette for another sip. The bottle has a likeness to Colonel Taylor's original design, used over a century ago. Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. is widely considered as one of the founding fathers of the bourbon industry. He fought for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. 

That was nearly three decades after he purchased what is now called Buffalo Trace Distillery. During his time in charge, Taylor implemented several innovative methods still used today, including climate-controlled ageing warehouses like Warehouse C, built by Taylor in 1885. Each barrel is hand-picked and Bottled in Bond at 100 proof to honour its namesake.

This extremely hearty whiskey ages in new charred oak barrels for no less than 15 years. Straight out of the barrel, uncut and unfiltered, the taste is powerful, flavorful and intense. Open it up with a few drops of water, sit back and ponder the wonders of the universe. While the bottled in bond designation isn’t necessarily a quality guarantee, this whiskey more than proves its merit. It’s explosive, bold, and buttery, with warm flavors of honey-roasted peanuts, caramel, chocolate, corn muffins, licorice, and cinnamon, all accented by notes of savory herbs, cloves, white pepper, tobacco, and an earthy undertone. The 2024 release of the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection is an 18-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Heaven Hill launched the first release in its new Heaven Hill Heritage Collection which will feature one of the distillery’s six unique mashbills for release. The inaugural whiskey is a barrel-proof bourbon bottled at 118.2 proof and made using the distillery’s core bourbon mash bill of 78 percent corn, 10 percent rye, and 12 percent malted barley. The label says the whiskey is 17 years old, but that’s indicative of the youngest whiskey in the bottle, which also includes 19 and 20-year-old bourbon (the exact breakdown: 28 percent 20-year-old barrels, 44 percent 19-year-old barrels, 28 percent 17-year-old barrels).

Nose is complex yet not overwhelming. A splendid taste with a warm feel to it. Not to smoky but silky smooth.
