It has a bright ruby red color with light violet hues. The first approach on the nose is intense, revealing notes of anise, cardamom, cherry, thyme, fresh plum, jarilla and orange peel. On the palate, it has a fluid structure and supple tannins.

 It is a wine with energy, a pleasure wine that makes you want to drink it. An honest Malbec, made from organically grown grapes.

James Suckling 93 Points | Well-concentrated with velvety tannins, this full-bodied wine boasts pure blackberry and black cherry flavors and a hearty drinkability. Black pepper and tobacco accents show up first on the nose and interlace on the palate with rather full tannins.

Winemaker Notes

Bright and deep red color with purple tones. Aromas of black fruit reminiscent of fresh plum mixed with blueberries and a hint of flowers. On the palate the wine is balanced, medium-bodied with a good fresh acidity.

James Suckling 92 Points |  Attractive aromas of red and dark berries, crushed walnuts, dried flowers and stone. Medium-bodied, juicy and bright on the palate with fine tannins and a sleek, textural finish. 48% charbono, 45% malbec and 7% semillon. Drink now or hold.

Winemaker Description 

This wine has a bright and attractive red color. On the nose, aromas of red fruits and spices prevail, but it also shows subtle citric notes, like fresh tangerine rind. The palate is round with a silky texture and concentrated flavors, an easy-to-drink wine. The finish is linear and refreshing, with a smooth and inviting acidity.

Our project Avenida 67 is back after a few years of hiatus.

This time, we’ve teamed up with one of the most iconic Argentine winegrowing families — the Benegas-Lynch family. Fifth-generation producers in Mendoza, Argentina, their legacy is deeply rooted in the cradle of Argentine winemaking.

Avenida 67 was the first label I ever created for 67 Wine, so it carries tremendous sentimental value. Working with Tiburcio Benegas, who currently leads operations at Bodegas Benegas, has been an absolute pleasure. Tiburcio is a man of many talents, and preserving his family’s legacy is among his greatest passions.

Avenida 67 Malbec is crafted from 100% estate-grown grapes sourced from the Benegas-Lynch vineyards in Mendoza.

Vinification: Grapes undergo cold maceration after crushing to enhance aroma, color depth, and fruit expression

Aging: Following alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in French oak barrels

Vinous 91 Points  The 2023 Malbec Aruma is sourced from El Peral and Los Chacayes in the Uco Valley. This warm 2023 vintage was balanced by an early harvest, resulting in a subtly lighter palate. After spending a winter on the fine lees, this vibrant Malbec showcases intense purple hues, with pristine notes of fresh herbs, violet, cherry and plum. Juicy and expressive, it features fine tannins and lively fruit flavors, making it an energetic and primary wine.

Memo Summary Notes

The Bodegas Caro "Aruma" Malbec 2023 is a prestigious collaboration between two of the world's most famous winemaking families: Domaine Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) from France and the Catena family from Argentina. The name Aruma means "night" in the native Quechua language, referring to the cool mountain nights of the Andes.

The perfect "Bistro" wine. Pairs beautifully with grilled skirt steak (Carne Asada), lamb sliders, or a hearty charcuterie board. Its high acidity also makes it a great match for tomato-based pasta dishes or empanadas.

Description

Deep red color. The nose presents a great aromatic expression preponderated by the notes of black fruit and spices. In the mouth, its round tannin is highlighted and it is perceived as very fruity. It is a wine of medium intensity, fresh and balanced

WINEMAKING The grapes are carefully destemmed and undergo a four-day cold maceration. The must is fermented at low temperatures (26 ° C) so that in this way greater aromatic delicacy is achieved. The fermentation is completed with soft and delicate overruns until the moment of discovery.

James Suckling 94 Points | This shows aromas of ripe blackberries and blueberries, vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and sweet tobacco. Hints of nut shell, too. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, polished tannins and a sleek, silky texture. Juicy, with delicious fruit on the palate and notes of walnuts and chocolate to close. Firm, flavorful finish.

The Wine Advocate 91+ Points | The 2019 Clos de Los Siete comes from a very good, ripe and complete vintage. The wine is 50% Malbec, 24% Merlot, 11% Syrah, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot with similar alcohol as other years (14.5%) but with less ripeness sensation. It's floral, aromatic, expressive and showy, juicy, fresh and balanced, tasty, with full flavors and round tannins. Seventy percent of the wine matured in 225-liter French barriques, one-third new, for 11 months.  Best after 2022.

The Wine Advocate 99 Points | The 2020 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard is nothing but phenomenal. It's very fresh and balanced and, for a warm year like 2020, doesn't show any heat or excess; it's subtle and has an ethereal character within the powerful and exuberant character from Gualtallary. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and some full clusters, sometimes up to 70% of the volume. It's intense and powerful, but something makes if feel light on its feet and with great inner power. This is still young and should develop nicely in bottle and for a long time.

James Suckling 96 Points | Ink and licorice with blackberry and black olive aromas. Medium-to full-bodied with round, fine tannins that are crunchy and refined. It has a juicy undertone and a savory finish. Just a hint of cedar and caramel at the end.

Vinous 95 Points | The 2020 Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Gualtallary hails from the higher-altitude regions of the Uco Valley. Despite being produced in a warm year, this wine maintains a juicy essence, although it lacks depth. It opens with an intense bouquet of grapefruit, violet and wild herbs. Natural fruit flavors emerge on the palate, highlighted by blackberry hints and a chalky texture, culminating in a long, fruit-driven finish. This wine is vertical, showcasing slightly riper fruit nuances. It’s interesting how a region like Gualtallary can shift its profile between warm and cool years, emphasizing the extremes.

Wine Spectator 93 Points | Fresh rosemary, graphite and tobacco accents meld with an elegant, orange peel–accented raspberry and plum core that reveals cocoa nib details while unfurling around a nice lift of fresh acidity, driving the flavors onto the finish structured around tannins. Drink now through 2040.

Winemaker Description 

El Gran Enemigo Gualtallary shows a deep purple color with red highlights. Its aromas are intense and elegant. Cabernet Franc brings sweet spices, black pepper and light notes of eucalyptus and thyme. Malbec brings notes of ripe black fruits, blackberries and black cherries. The oak aging gives a touch of chocolate and vanilla to blend. The taste is complex, sweet impact with structured tannins, and a very long and persistent finish. This wine was made in honor of the old Pomerol style where Cabernet Franc was blended with the other Bordeaux varieties.

This wine is excellent with grilled meats and various cheeses.

Pristine, fresh and vibrant on the palate with fresh, soft tannins and a solid, fruit-expressive finish. 70% valle de uco and 30% agrelo. Already appealing, with lots of fruit.

The Wine Advocate 90 Points | The 2022 Don Nicanor Malbec is a tremendous value, opening with a balanced bouquet of dark fruit, crushed stones and a touch of woody complexity. The palate is similarly svelte and creamy, concluding with a solid, grippy finish driven by an even-keeled minerality.

The wine is an intense violet color. The nose has aromas of red fruits and blackberries. There are floral notes such as violets, and spices. The oak is well-integrated and contributes soft notes of bitter chocolate. The palate is fresh and elegant, with velvety tannins and a long-lasting finish.

Santa Julia Natural La Vaquita Clarete is a pale red color with pink reflections. The aromas are fresh and fruity with a soft hint of floral notes. Fresh acidity on the palate - juicy and bold. 

James Suckling 93 Points | Floral on the nose, with watermelon, pepper and bright red fruit. Medium- to full-bodied, voluminous yet fresh, fun and approachable. Made from 80% malbec and 20% torrontes co-fermented over 15 days. Vibrant and enjoyable. No sulfites added.

Catena Rosé de la Provincia de Mendoza’s delicate profile offers tart red cherry and floral aromas with creaminess and saline minerality on the palate. It is unapologetically Argentine in style.

Winemaker Description 

It reveals the intense and complex aromatic expression of an argentinean Malbec. It combines aromas of raspberry and cherry black of Las Compuertas, plumb and violet from Paraje Altamira and blueberry and fresh herbs of Los Chacayes. In the mouth it offers a great concentration of tannins that lead to a creamy and unctuous mouthfeel. Its balanced acidity and firm tannins contribute to a pleasant and persistent finish.

Vinous 94 Points | The 2022 Chardonnay Alta Historic Rows originates from Gualtallary and Villa Bastías, Uco Valley vineyards. It was aged up to 14 months in a combination of new and used barrels. Yellow in hue with a golden sheen. The floral nose presents appealing green apple, cedar, and nut aromas with hints of fennel and quince in the background. On the palate, it has a creamy, chalky texture and tart acidity resulting in a taut, refreshing mouthfeel. A well-crafted Chardonnay that sums up the advantages of high-altitude vineyards. 

James Suckling 94 Points |  Pie crust, smoked pineapple, lemon curd and zesty citrus on the palate. Medium-bodied, showing fresh, creamy fruit and a lengthy finish. Drink or hold.

James Suckling 91 Points | Ripe cassis, berries, plums and a subtle twist of spices. Nicely structured on the palate with a medium to full body and a tight, medium-long finish. Well-framed. Drinkable now, but better in one more year.

Jesica Vargas of The Wine Enthusiast writes 88 Points | The nose of this wine is austere, but as the wine breathes, hints of black fruit show in the glass. A generous palate delivers intense flavors of blackberries joined by earthy notes that extend into the finish.

 Antigal UNO Malbec offers delicious plum, strawberry, and blackberry flavors with enticing hints of violets, vanilla, and milk chocolate. Brightened by carefully protected natural acidity, this violet-red wine has a silky texture and provides an agreeably persistent finish.

James Suckling 96 Points | A full-bodied and expressive malbec with 5% cabernet sauvignon. Minerals, black cherries and cool blue fruit. A touch of cocoa powder, but there is nothing plush. Concentrated but austere, with tons of juicy fruit and dusty tannins treading into a long, bright finish. Fermented in concrete and aged 24 months in foudres. Drink or hold. 

The Wine Advocate 94 Points | Sourced from Altamira and Gualtallary, the 2021 José Zuccardi is 95% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon that was fermented in concrete before maturing two years in foudre. It is an homage to Sebastián's father, aiming to evoke the historic wines of Argentina—as Sebastián says, "not the 1990s or 2000s, but the 1940s or 1950s." It leads with an inviting, focused nose of black fruits and balsamic accents, introducing a creamy, svelte and taut palate. It concludes with a seamless, refined and elegantly decadent finish. It is a perfect marriage of classically informed richness and contemporary precision.

Tim Atkin 94 Points | Named after Sebastián Zuccardi’s father, José, this is an assemblage of Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gualtallary and Paraje Altamira. Aged in large wooden foudres that have a negligible impact in terms of flavour, but do soften the wine’s structure, it’s dark, brooding and intensely coloured, with savoury tannins, damson and bramble flavours, bright acidity and a mountain herb top note.

The Wine Enthusiast by Jesica Vargas writes 91 Points | This medium-bodied red offers sweet red-fruit aromas and hints of chalk. The palate displays honest black fruit and red cherry followed by a light note of spice that lingers through the persistent finish. It has a mineral texture and vibrant acidity typical of the Gualtallary sub-region in the Uco Valley. 

Vinous 91 Points | The 2020 Malbec Poligonos Del Valle De Uco Gualtallary was aged in concrete. A dark, bright purple in hue. The liqueur-inflected nose offers ripe notes of plum and blackberry with subtle hints of violet. Compact in the mouth with good freshness, the young, reactive tannins and trace of chalk keep things tight, lending the wine a rugged character with sustained flavor.

Domaine Nico Grand Père displays intense aromas of fresh red fruits with subtle notes of earth, spice, and violets. It has medium-high acidity, low perception of alcohol, silky tannins, and a lengthy, slightly herbal finish.

The Wine Advocate 97 Points | The 2020 Aluvional Gualtallary is more floral and expressive, a little more exuberant than the 2019 I tasted next to it. In 2020, they harvested some 10 days earlier than in 2019 (they started in February!), and the wines finished with similar alcohol levels (14%) and even with a slightly lower pH and higher acidity in 2020, so with very good freshness. They fermented with some 30% to 50% of stems in the vinification (they use grapes from three different vineyards that are vinified separately, all in the Monasterio part of Gualtallary) and matured the wine in concrete. This is very young, and the palate reveals the inner notes of thyme and rockrose, the violets and the small berries. The texture is akin to liquid chalk, a mineral and austere wine, with very fine tannins and a long, dry finish.

La Igriega Malbec Paraje Altamira is a single-vineyard Argentine red showing off the beauty and complexity of the Malbec grape. "The name LA IGRIEGA means "Y" in Spanish--equivalent to "and" in English--and symbolizes the genetic structure of this project.

In terms of quality and price, this is arguably the best 'Bordeaux blend' in our portfolio, made by a winemaker who is passionate about the wines of his French cousins but still proudly Argentine. 50% Malbec, 20% Cab Franc, 20% Cab Sauv, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot.

A nose of black fruits, spices, white pepper, clove, cardamon, eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary - complex in other words, with a fantastic finish.

Federico Benegas Lynch was raised at ‘El Trapiche’, a winery established in 1883 by his great, great grandfather, Don Tiburcio Benegas, one of the original pioneers of Argentine wine. The winery was finally sold in the 1970s and in 1998, following a successful business career in Buenos Aires, Federico returned to Mendoza to re-kindle his lifelong passion and professional destiny, wine. He bought Finca La Libertad, an historic 40-hectare vineyard with ‘soils’ of stone on the old Upper Mendoza riverbank in Cruz de Piedra, and the old winery that belonged to his mother’s family which he quickly set about refurbishing. His idea was based on the traditional French Châteaux system, where proprietorship of vineyard and winery are inextricably linked.

This pure and fresh Malbec from Tupungato in Argentina’s Uco Valley offers shimmering red and black fruit — cherries, strawberries, and plums — backed by sweet herbs and a delicate spice. Made from organic fruit by winemakers and childhood friends Norberto Páez and Sebastián Bisole, using 30% whole custer fermentation and indigenous yeasts, it’s a great partner for everything from carne asada to barbecue, including potato salad!
