About Altos Las Hormigas
Founded in 1995 by a group of Italian winemakers led by Alberto Antonini, Altos Las Hormigas, “Heights of the Ants,” is one of Mendoza’s most respected organic producers. The estate is dedicated to expressing the true character of Malbec through minimal intervention and a deep respect for terroir, farming all vineyards organically without herbicides or pesticides.
Winemaker Description
Altos Las Hormigas: Bright ruby red with light violet hues. The nose is intense and inviting — notes of anise, cardamom, cherry, thyme, fresh plum, jarilla, and orange peel. On the palate, a fluid structure with supple tannins. A wine with energy, a pleasure wine that makes you want to drink it. An honest Malbec, made from organically grown grapes.
Expert Review · Vintage 2023
Wine Spectator, 89 Points: Blueberries and cherries on the nose, as well as violets and sage. It’s soft and medium-bodied with light vegetal undertones. From organically grown grapes. Vegan.
Food Pairings
Grilled skirt steak, empanadas, lamb chops, roasted peppers, and aged Manchego. Equally enjoyable on its own as an everyday sipper.

Joaquin Hidalgo writes: The 2021 Malbec Clásico Made with Organic Grapes is 75% from Luján de Cuyo and 25% from the Uco Valley. A mild purple color. The bold aromas feature plum and notes of spice, herbs and mint. On the palate, it has good grip and acidity with a degree of structure and moderate fat. A juicy, flavorful wine. Drinking 2022 - 2028. - Vinous 90
James Suckling writes: This shows notes of cherries and red plums with hints of sweet spices and stone. Medium-bodied and textural with a mineral backbone and vivid red fruit. Dusty tannins and a polished finish. An easy and smooth malbec that shows freshness and poise. Drink now. - James Suckling 91
Amanda Barnes, Dirceu Vianna Junior MW, Madeleine Stenwreth MW write: Remarkably juicy and alluring. Subtle and sophisticated, boasting ripe dark fruits, spices, and dark chocolate. Pure, precise, with excellent concentration, fine tannins, and refreshing energy. - Decanter 91
