Encomienda de Cervera Vulcanus Sauvignon Blanc/Verdejo — Campo de Calatrava 2025

Encomienda de Cervera is one of Spain’s most singular estate wineries — a historic property with documented vineyard records dating to 1741, situated in the Campo de Calatrava, a volcanic appellation in Castilla-La Mancha that remains one of the country’s best-kept secrets. The estate’s vineyards grow on volcanic soils at 750–850 meters of altitude, cooled by mountain microclimates with cold nights that preserve natural acidity and generate exceptional aromatic complexity. Vulcanus — named for the volcanic terroir that defines it — is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo, harvested selectively during the coolest hours of the day at optimal ripeness. Certified organic, the wine is fermented in restored 1927 concrete tanks that impart a distinctive creaminess through malolactic fermentation. This is Spanish white wine from a place unlike any other.

The color is a bright straw yellow. The nose is floral, fresh, and expressive: white flowers, white peach, currant, citrus, and aromatic herbs, with the stony, mineral undercurrent of volcanic soil. On the palate, it is mineral, elegant, and complex — refreshing acidity, a round and creamy mid-palate from concrete tank fermentation, and a long, clean, and satisfying finish. An explosion of sensations in perfect balance.

“Mineral, elegant and complex, with a refreshing acidity and a long and creamy aftertaste — everything perfectly harmonized, in balance, like an explosion of sensations and flavors.” — Encomienda de Cervera

About This Wine

This is not your average Rioja. The 67 Wine Artist Series Rioja Crianza 2019 is a limited edition collaboration between 67 Wine, Bodega Obalo, and legendary Bronx-born street artist Cope2 — one of the most iconic names in graffiti history. The label is an original artwork created exclusively for 67 Wine, making every bottle a collectible as much as a wine.

Behind the art is a wine of genuine quality. Bodega Obalo, established in 2006 on the border of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, farms 100% hand-harvested grapes with rigorous sorting standards. The 2019 Crianza is 98% Tempranillo with small additions of Viura and Garnacha, gravity-crushed into small-batch tanks, fermented, and matured 12 months in French oak before additional bottle aging. Classic Rioja structure, modern winemaking precision.

A powerful, age-worthy Rioja with layered dark fruit, chocolate, spice and finely structured tannins

Expert Ratings

97 Points  Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, Platinum
“Packed with ambition and guile, bestowing the palate with voluptuous black cherry compote, smoky chocolate oak and peppered mushrooms. Fulsome and structured with powerful tannins and fabulous igniting acidity rippling through. Made for the long run.”

95 Points Tim Atkin MW
“Always the most ambitious red in Marqués de Cáceres’ range, this wouldn’t look out of place in a line-up of top wines from Pauillac in Bordeaux. Cedarwood and coffee bean-scented oak frames a youthful, layered, well-structured palate of blackberry, fig, and dark chocolate, with fine-grained tannins and the concentration to age further in the bottle.”

Marqués de Cáceres Gaudium 2021 is a refined, full-bodied Rioja built around Tempranillo, showing the depth, polish and structure expected from one of the estate’s most ambitious wines.

The palate is rich and layered, with flavors of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum joined by notes of fig, dark chocolate, cedar, coffee bean and warm spice. The oak is well integrated, adding smoky and savory complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Firm yet fine-grained tannins give the wine excellent structure, while fresh acidity keeps the palate balanced and energetic. The finish is long, polished and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, spice and woodland notes.

A serious, age-worthy Rioja that can be enjoyed now with hearty dishes or cellared for further development.

There is nothing quite like a Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva. Bright golden, almost fluorescent in the glass, it opens with a complex, layered nose of toast, smoke, mushroom, earth, pollen, and herbal tea — aromas drawn from years spent deep in López de Heredia's ancient underground caves. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet mouth-filling, with pungent, ethereal flavors, searing acidity, and a long, dry finish that ends with a distinctly salty, umami quality. Still young. Built to age effortlessly for decades.

Blend: ~90% Viura / 10% Malvasía Riojana (avg. vine age: 63 years)
Appellation: Rioja Alta, Spain
Vintage: 2014 — bottled December 2022
Aging: Fermented in ancient oak vats with indigenous yeasts; 6+ years in neutral American oak in underground caves
ABV: 12.5% | pH 3.3 | Acidity 6.6 g/L
Format: 750ml

Founded in 1877, Bodegas López de Heredia is one of the last truly traditional Rioja producers — a family estate that has never compromised its methods. Their wines are aged longer than almost any other producer in Spain, and the caves beneath the winery shape every bottle in ways no modern cellar can replicate. Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva stands apart in the world of white wine: it mimics the complexity of aged Sherry and white Burgundy while remaining unmistakably, defiantly Rioja.

"Fills your mouth with pungent flavors, despite being medium-bodied and having an ethereal quality about it — very long and tasty, finishing almost salty, with an umami feeling, dry and chalky. Delicious, clean and still young, it should age effortlessly." — The Wine Advocate, 96 pts

Perucchi Vermouth Blanco Gran Reserva — Spain NV

Vermouth Perucchi holds a singular distinction: it is the first Spanish vermouth, created in 1876 by Don Augustus Perucchi in Catalonia. Nearly 150 years later, the recipe remains unchanged — a secret combination of more than 50 herbs, plants, and roots macerated with carefully selected wines and mistelas from Alt Empordà, Valencia, and La Mancha. What makes Perucchi truly extraordinary is its solera system: many of the aging vessels are the same century-old deposits Don Augustus started with, meaning every bottle contains a small percentage of vermouth more than 150 years old. All organic, no preservatives, no antioxidants.

Straw-yellow with greenish tones from the herbaceous botanicals. The nose is delicate and exquisite — a multitude of floral aromas woven through with the complexity of 50+ botanicals. On the palate, it is balanced and slightly sweet, soft and naturally refreshing. The finish is long and intense, with an original, layered combination of aromas and flavors that converge into something genuinely unique.

• Producer: Perucchi, Catalonia, Spain
• Style: Vermouth Blanco (White Vermouth) Gran Reserva
• Origin: Alt Empordà, Valencia, La Mancha

Lustau Fino del Puerto · Jerez-Xeres-Sherry, Spain

Producer Description

Aged following a biological aging in the cool and humid air of the port town of El Puerto de Santa María, where the flor grows in ideal environmental conditions.

Pale straw colour, dry, light and smooth. This Fino is laced with scents of the sea and profound “flor” aromas. Clean and fresh, with a slight taste of tangy yeast.

Vineyards

Each year, our vineyards receive roughly 3,000 hours of sunshine, accompanied by relatively heavy rainfalls of about 600 l/m². The landscape of the area consists primarily of white limestone hills, known as albariza. Its singularity is due to the fact that long ago this region was under the ocean for millennia.

Montegilillo Vineyard: located in Pago Montegil. The vines are planted in albariza white limestone soils, with moderate slopes.

Las Cruces Vineyard: near to the coast, in Pago Abulagar. Sands, clays and albariza soils are combined in this vineyard. It’s the only vineyard of the Sherry region where the three allowed grape varieties (Palomino, Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez) are planted.

The House

Sergio Martínez, Cellar Master, knows the wines and the soleras that Lustau has built up perfectly. For over 18 years he has done the daily rounds, chalk and venencia in hand, along the andanas which make up the Lustau solera ageing casks. Over a decade analysing, understanding and caring for the jewels and the secrets which are hidden between the walls of this bodega. Honored in 2026, for the eighth time, as the World’s Best Winemaker of Fortified Wines by the prestigious International Wine Challenge.

The day-to-day work and the wisdom transmitted from generation to generation of craftsmen come together in the care of our casks. The master coopers work hard every day to maintain our century-old wooden legacy.

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2020

Luis Gutierrez writes:  The white 2020 Blanco is a little closed, young, clean and tender with subtle oak. They produced a little bit more in 2020, and the wine has less oak and less buttery sensations, a change that started with the 2017 vintage, which seems to have found its style harvesting earlier to retain freshness; it has 13.04% alcohol and a pH @ 3.23 and matured in larger oak containers, 500-liter oak barrels and some concrete for 12 months. It's floral and expressive, a blend of Viura with 20% Garnacha Blanca that they still consider work in progress but moving in the direction they want to go. 16,200 bottles and 100 magnums were filled in March 2022.  Drinking 2022 to 2028.  - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 93

James Suckling writes:  A delicious, creamy white with aromas of apricots, baked peaches, hazelnuts, white chocolate and nougat. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a ripe and creamy palate. Lovely buttery pastry and nougat character, with a fresh finish. Drink now  - James Suckling 93

Pedro Ballesteros MW, Sarah Jane Evans MW, Pierre Monsour write:  Round and warm on the nose, with fine notes of smoke. A mouth-filling wine that's fresh and expressive.  Drinking 2024 to 2027.  - Decanter 90

Winemaker Notes

Contino Blanco 2020 shows a very intense nose, marked by its aging in barrel. It is fresh and fruity wine, a true reflection of the identity of our vineyard. San Gregorio offers a Garnacha Blanca with great complexity and volume. The soils are clayey-calcareous, with medium stoniness, key for good drainage.

Blend: 80% Viura, 20% Garnacha Blanca

Luis Perez El Muelle de Olaso Blanco VdT Cadiz 2023 750ml

Willy Pérez is one of the most exciting winemakers working in the Sherry region today — and El Muelle de Olaso is the wine that proves it. Made from 100% Palomino Fino sourced from 40- to 50-year-old vines on the legendary albariza marl soils of Macharnudo and Carrascal, this is a Vino de Pasto in the old tradition: a dry, still table wine from Jerez that has nothing to do with Sherry and everything to do with terroir. Fermented mostly in stainless steel with a touch of bota aging and brief contact with flor, El Muelle is a wine of extraordinary finesse and minerality.

The 2023 vintage is a year of nuance and detail — less concentrated than 2022 but more balanced, with a fine thread of tension running through the palate and a long, clean, and deeply satisfying finish. This is Palomino as it was always meant to taste.

"The claim that Palomino is a neutral-flavor grape is proven wrong with El Muelle — a wine with citrussy and tropical fruit flavors, lively chalky minerality, and a touch of herbal tanginess from its short contact with flor."

• Producer: Luis Pérez, Jerez, Cádiz, Spain
• Appellation: Vinos de la Tierra de Cádiz
• Grape: 100% Palomino Fino
• Vintage: 2023
• Vineyards: Macharnudo & Carrascal — 40–50 yr old vines on albariza marl
• Vinification: 80% stainless steel, 20% bota — brief flor contact — 6 months aging
• Tasting Notes: Dried pineapple, citrus, apple, light caramel, honey, cedar, chalky minerality, herbal tanginess, long clean finish
• Best Paired With: Grilled seafood, oysters, jamón ibérico, fried fish, or goat cheese

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023

James Suckling — 93 Points
Aromas of dried pineapple, apple and light caramel. Medium to full body. Light honey and cedar flavors. Made mostly in stainless with some natural fino in the blend. This is blended from two top vineyards of Jerez: Macharnudo and Carrascal.

Wine Advocate — 93 Points
The 2023 El Muelle de Olaso comes from a warm year but less warm than 2022 and more balanced. It was produced with Palomino grapes from 40- to 50-year-old vines on "barajuela" laminar albariza marl soils fermented mostly in stainless steel (80%) and only 20% in bota. It matured in stainless steel for six months. Pérez confessed that the wine has a little more Macharnudo wine this vintage. The wine is still a baby, primary and undeveloped but with a lot of finesse; it’s a year of less concentration, and it has nuance and detail, a fine thread and a long, clean and tasty finish.

A wine that rewrites what Palomino can be — El Muelle de Olaso is essential drinking for anyone who loves mineral-driven whites with soul.

4 Monos Viticultores GR 10 Tinto · Sierra de Gredos · 2024

4 Monos, meaning “four monkeys,” began with four wine-loving friends who met while hiking in the Gredos mountains. Their first vintage together was 2010. The project champions organic farming and the varied mountain landscapes west of Madrid, where old bush vines grow on sand, granite and schist.

GR 10 is the team’s regional, Garnacha-led red, drawn from parcels in Cadalso de los Vidrios, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Cenicientos. The existing notes describe red fruit, pepper and earth, with whole bunches contributing texture. Try it slightly chilled alongside a charcuterie board.

Winemaker Description

This fun Spanish wine project is the brainchild of four friends who share a similar philosophy on viticulture and winemaking. This affordable 'Tinto' hails from the Sierra de Gredos region of Spain and is dominated by Grenache.

GR-10 Tinto is the team's Vino de Sierra or "villages level" red from several parcels in Cadalso de los Vidrios, San Martín de Valdeiglesias & Cenicientos. The grapes are typically cold macerated 50% whole cluster and 50% de-stemmed, wild yeast fermented for 30-40 days, then raised in 300, 400 and 500 liter used barrels for 9 months.

About 50% of whole bunches are used, which add texture and weight to this easy-drinking wine. Notes of red fruit, pepper, and earth make this wine perfect for sipping chilled alongside charcuterie boards.

A mountain-grown Spanish red with fruit, spice and an easy place at the table.

Priorat and old vines usually mean a serious price tag. This one breaks the rule. La Garnatxa Fosca is part of Raúl Acha's Proyecto Garnachas de España — a mission to preserve and celebrate Spain's ancient Garnacha vines — and the fruit here comes from 60-year-old vines grown on Priorat's famous llicorella, the dark, slate-rich soils that give the region its unmistakable mineral signature. The result is a wine of genuine complexity: dark red fruit, iron-laced minerality, and a structure that feels far more serious than the price suggests. Rich and full-bodied, yet balanced with elegance and length. This is Priorat doing exactly what it does best, at a price that makes it an easy yes.

Descendientes de José Palacios | Pétalos | Bierzo DO | Castilla y León, Spain | 2021

Before Mencía became the darling of Northwestern Spain, Pétalos was already making waves. Descendientes de José Palacios — the project of Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios — has been the defining force in Bierzo’s modern renaissance, farming old-vine Mencía on ancient slate soils with biodynamic and organic principles. Pétalos is their entry wine, but it carries the full weight of the estate’s philosophy: precision, transparency, and a deep sense of place.

The 2021 is widely regarded as the finest vintage of the 2020–2022 trio. Lower alcohol than ever (13.5%), it shows a lighter, more delineated profile with the juicy, aromatic Mencía character that defines the appellation. The nose is enticing: red berries, violets, wild herbs, white pepper, and a whisper of agave. On the palate, a velvety mouthfeel and very fine, chalky tannins frame nimble red fruit with elegant structure and a long, gourmand finish. Approachable now and drinking beautifully through 2029. 320,000 bottles and 2,567 magnums produced.

Before the Mencia grape became the darling of Northwestern Spain, Petalos was already making waves. A beautifully tailored wine. Enticing aromas of red berries with underlying whiffs of violets. Poised and well integrated flavors.

Luberri Orlegi · Rioja Alavesa · 2024

In Elciego, Florentino Martínez Monje and María José founded Bodegas Luberri in 1991 to make wines that speak of Rioja Alavesa and invite a second glass. Orlegi is Luberri's youthful red, made in the carbonic maceration tradition. The existing producer description highlights ripe red and purple forest fruit, violets and licorice, followed by an agile, fresh palate and a green almond finish. It is an inviting Rioja for a lively dinner table.

From our wine buyer Oscar Garcia· Prior 2020 Vintage

At a recent Panel Tasting with fellow wine professionals for Sevenfifty.com I was able to to taste this beautiful and cheerful red from Rioja Alavesa made by winemaker Florentino Martinez Monje. Luberri Orlegi 2020 is a wonderful happy-go-lucky blend of Tempranillo & Viura using only native yeast to kick-start fermentation and carbonic macerated to preserve the youthfulness of the Tempranillo and Viura. Aromas of Blue fruit and purple flowers (violets and lilacs). On the palate the wine is fresh and pretty enticing. Beautiful finish. The perfect red for Thanksgiving with that is sure to bring lots of cheers to your dinner table.

At Marqués de Riscal, there used to be “winemaker’s wines” among its historic reservas, like the Reserva Medoc and the XR, which never became commercial names. In the tradition of the cellarmasters from Bordeaux that have long been part of Riscal’s story, the winemaker marked some of the barrels in chalk with the letters XR (Extra Reserva) as a consequence of having found special characteristics which were not present in other wines. These wines were never sold but served as a reference point for the winemaker. This custom lasted almost a century, between the harvests of 1869 and 1964. In 2015, Marqués de Risca released a wine named XR, paying tribute to all the master winemakers who have helped to forge a part of the greatest history of Spanish wine in Marqués de Riscal.

Expert Reviews

94 Points James Suckling - July 17, 2025 "Dark mushrooms, spices and leather with cedar and black plums. Ripe yet juicy with plenty of blackberries and a twist of citrus and vanilla. Medium- to full-bodied with dusty tannins and a very lengthy finish. Pretty traditional and linear, this Rioja is excellent to drink now but will benefit from extra time in bottle."

93  Points Wine Enthusiast - May 1, 2026 "Classic and focused with dark, layered flavors, this XR Reserva captures a deeper tone of Tempranillo with a body of black fruits, wet tobacco, spiced cocoa, and a drop of pine resin. Flavor fills the mouth while the wine maintains restraint with a medium body and plenty of length. Melting tannins bring persistence and the potential to enjoy after several more years in cellar."

93 Jeb Dunnuck - November 16, 2025 "An ode to blending, the 2021 XR by Marques de Riscal Reserva is Tempranillo and Graciano made in a fruity, modern style, with sweet tannins and 25 months of American oak aging. Dark cherry, vanilla, and a rich dusting of cocoa powder give it a lustiness across layers of full-bodied concentration and decadence. Ready to enjoy, it will remain enjoyable another 10-12 years."

92 Points Wine Spectator - November 3, 2025 "A structured version, with sculpted tannins wrapped in a fleshy range of coulised black cherry and black raspberry fruit, plus accents of candied violet, fennel seed, milled pepper and cured tobacco. Harmonious, this expands nicely on the palate and through the spiced finish."

VINEYARD

Marques de Riscal’s important vineyards holdings and long term contracts are focused around a specific quality approach. For their Reservas they work exclusively with old vines, from before the 1970s, as they firmly believe that these are critical for the delicate Tempranillo grape to achieve appropriate concentration. They work in the coolest area of Rioja (Rioja Alavesa), at elevation, on soils that accentuate freshness and detail, and with a touch of Graciano; these factors bring forward the winery’s trademark vibrancy, refinement, and aging potential. The XR selection is always a barrel selection but in general can be said to come from vines that have lower natural yields and produce more concentrated fruit.

WINEMAKING

Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and is not over-extended, in order to bring delineation to the beautiful old vine concentration. The wine spends just over two years in American Oak Barrels with a small percentage in French oak. The beautiful concentration and irresistible fruit are kept at the forefront of the gentle handling process.

VINTAGE

The 2021 season in Rioja Alavesa was defined by a cool, wet spring and a warm, even summer, ensuring steady ripening and excellent balance. Harvest began later than average, with yields slightly reduced but fruit quality exceptional. The wines show Rioja Alavesa’s hallmark tension: vibrant red fruit purity, fine-grained tannins, and lifted freshness. Precision in vineyard work and restrained cellar craft deliver wines of clarity and length that highlight the region’s leadership in expressive, age-worthy Tempranillo.

TASTING NOTE

Expressive aromas of fruit intermingle with a multitude of spices and pepper. The ripe, concentrated fruit shows beautiful complexity.

The AT Roca Rosat Reserva Brut Nature 2023 is a high-quality sparkling rosé from the Corpinnat collective in the Penedès region of Spain. Crafted by Agustí Torelló Roca, this wine is a standout for those who appreciate precision, organic viticulture, and a bone-dry finish.

You might notice it isn't labeled as "Cava." AT Roca is part of Corpinnat, an elite group of producers who broke away from the Cava DO to maintain stricter quality standards, including 100% organic grapes, hand-harvesting, and vinification entirely on the estate.

Pairing: Its high acidity and bone-dry profile make it incredible with sushi, oily fish (like salmon), or light Mediterranean rice dishes. It’s also sharp enough to cut through fried appetizers or salty cured meats.

Gramona Imperial — Corpinnat, Catalonia 2018

Gramona is the crown jewel of Corpinnat — the prestigious breakaway appellation of the Penèdes committed to the highest standards of traditional-method sparkling wine production in Spain. Founded in 1881 and farming biodynamically for decades, Gramona produces wines of extraordinary depth, precision, and longevity that stand comfortably alongside the finest Champagnes in the world. The Imperial is Gramona's flagship expression: a vintage-dated Brut aged on the lees for a minimum of five years, crafted from a blend of the great indigenous Catalan varieties led by Xarel·lo. The 2018 vintage is particularly notable — a cooler, wetter year that produced a wine of exceptional freshness and fine-boned structure, with the kind of calibrated acidity that will reward further cellaring.

The bouquet is elegant and complex after 60 months on the lees: lime and lemon pie lead, complemented by a delicate array of fine herbs, brioche, and a subtle autolytic creaminess. On the palate, it is dry and creamy with an ethereal, flowing texture enlivened by calibrated acidity. Refreshing and joyful, with a long, mineral-driven finish — this is sparkling wine of genuine distinction.

🏆 Vinous 91 Points — "The bouquet features aromas of lime and lemon pie, complemented by a delicate array of fine herbs. Dry and creamy on the palate, the ethereal flow is enlivened by calibrated acidity. Refreshing and joyful, this sparkling wine is a delight."

Five years on the lees, one of Spain's greatest sparkling wine houses — Gramona Imperial 2018 is a Corpinnat benchmark of rare elegance and freshness.

Finca Valpiedra is one of Rioja's most distinctive single-estate wineries, situated on a meander of the Ebro River in the Cenicero area of Rioja Alta. The estate takes its name from the pebble stones and limestone that define its soils — valpiedra meaning "valley of stones" — and it is these soils that give the wines their signature freshness, minerality, and cool-climate precision.

The Finca Valpiedra Cantos de Valpiedra Rioja 2020 750ml is 100% Tempranillo sourced from a single vineyard on the Ebro riverbank, harvested in mid-September and fermented in stainless steel with a 16-day maceration before aging 12 months in French and American oak. Intense purple with violet glints, it opens with black fruit, ripe sloe, and minerality, layered with vanilla, spice, and tobacco from the barrel. On the palate it is oily, rich, and intense with great finesse — velvety, fruit-driven, and juicy, with a long, cool, mineral finish and the characteristic Valpiedra freshness. Drink now through 2030.

This Riojano vermouth is made by Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta, one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Haro, Rioja. A meditative red Vermouth with incredible depth of aromas and flavors. I treat this vermouth like a brandy. I drink it from a red wine glass or a brandy tumbler. If you are going to drink it on the rocks--make sure to use good quality ice!

Follow Oscar’s lead and enjoy it in a red-wine glass or brandy tumbler. If serving on the rocks, use good-quality ice. For an aperitif pairing, consider olives, nuts, or a selection of Spanish cheeses.

Sonsierra Tempranillo Rioja Alta Cosecha — San Vicente de la Sonsierra 2024

Bodega Viñedos de Sonsierra is one of Rioja Alta’s most storied cooperatives — founded in 1962 when over 240 grape farmers in San Vicente de la Sonsierra pooled their vineyards to make a shared dream come true. Generations later, those same family vineyards — cultivated with practices perfected over centuries in the high-altitude, continental climate of Rioja Alta — produce this Cosecha Tempranillo: a pure, honest expression of the grape that defines Rioja. At under $13, it is one of the most exciting values in all of Spanish red wine.

Cherry red with a vivid purple rim. The nose is expressive and varietal: blackberry, raspberry, and violet, with a swirl revealing licorice and mineral notes characteristic of Rioja Alta’s iron-rich soils. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with sweet fruit, a retronasal loaded with berry and licorice, and a clean, inviting finish that makes you reach for another glass.

• Producer: Bodega Viñedos de Sonsierra, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Rioja Alta, Spain
• Vintage: 2024
• Appellation: Rioja DOCa — Cosecha
• Varietal: 100% Tempranillo
• Size: 750ml

Our Professional Review

Oscar Garcia Moncada | Senior Wine Buyer | This lovely family-run winery, tucked into Catalunya’s Costers del Segre DO, is among the most eco-friendly and sustainability-focused estates I’ve visited in recent years. Troballa Arrels is 100% Garnatxa Negra (Grenache Noir), delivering classic Mediterranean character: garrigue herbs, figs, black olives, and dried aromatics layered over a savory palate. Perfect with grilled sausages served over white beans dressed in olive oil and cracked black pepper.

Winemaker Description

Notes of plums, cherries, strawberries and fresh oranges, subtle hints of cassis, raspberries and blackberries. There is a mineral touch on the nose and a saline and toasted touch stands out on the palate, with a very fresh and balsamic finish. An original and explosive wine.

Rocky limestone clay soil of very low fertility. Altitude of the vineyards: 800m above sea level. Spontaneous fermentation, aged 6 months, 1/3 of the grapes fermented and aged respectively in clay amphorae, French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.

Winemaker Description

Brick red deep covered. Clean on the nose with spicy aromas, toasts and dried fruits. Well structured, savory, ample and well balanced. Pleasent finish and harmonized flavors. Complex retronasal, in which we find balsamics and good oak. Finishes elegantly.

Winemaker Description

Aromatic and elegant expression of an otherwise deep and dark flavored grape. Delicious aromas of flowers, red berries and black cherries, shadowed by notes of orange peel, spices and earth. Supple on the palate with silky tannins and a refreshingly mineral finish.

It has a bright ruby color with the grip of the fine tannins and an herbal touch that provides freshness.

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2018

96 Points James Suckling | Mineral, macadamia, pine nuts, white sesame and white fruit with a touch of spice. A bright and linear Capellania that shows excellent tension, freshness and complexity. Long and appetizing finish. More taut and gastronomic now. 100% viura. Drink now or hold.

95 Points Tim Atkin | The cooler 2018 vintage was ideally suited to the production of high-quality whites like this pure Viura from a six-hectare plateau at 485 metres within the extensive Castillo Ygay estate. Modern, perfumed and poised, it has finely integrated French oak, fennel, thatch and beeswax aromas, herbal complexity and a nutty, fragrant, citrus zest palate. 2025-40

94 Points Wine Advocate | To catch up with the current vintages that I shall review every 12 months from now on, I tasted two vintages of some of the wines, including the whites. The 2018 Capellanía is 100% Viura from the plot that names the wine. The vineyard is six hectares planted in 1945 at 485 meters altitude, the highest in the estate. It fermented in concrete, the first vintage to do so, as it was fermented in stainless steel until then, and matured in second-use French oak barrels for 22 months. It spent a further seven months in concrete, a long élevage, with the idea to produce a structured white with aging potential, while keeping the varietal character. The wine is subtle and elegant, following the path of all the wines in the portfolio here, still marked by the élevage in oak, spicy and smoky. The palate is balanced, with a nice combination of fruit and oak, with a soft texture, clean, focused and tasty. It has 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.1 and 6.10 grams of acidity. 21,836 bottled and 688 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2022. This is now released with the Gran Reserva back label.

Expert Review - Vintage 2015

Mike DeSimone of the Wine Enthusiast writes 95 Points | Dark ruby in color, this wine has a nose of black cherry, cedar chest and violet candy. A pleasant floral note is a constant companion to blackberry, anisette, clove and dark-chocolate flavors that are enclosed in a shell of muscular tannins. A soft note of pomegranate permeates the grippy finish. Drink through 2035.

Winemaker Description

A 1er Cru RBD from Yolanda and Carolina García Viadero whose mission is to place the Tinto Fino varietal among the world’s best.  Bursts of blackberry and cassis, relaxed opulence and richness.

Winemaker Description

Tawny gold colour, this elegant and classic Amontillado is pungent and aromatic, with oaky notes. Nutty on the palate with a hint of sweetness and a lingering dry finish. Winemaker Description.

Expert Review

Wine Spectator 93 Points | This has lots of range, with ginger, date, toasted almond, blood orange, singed sandalwood and green tea notes all allied to finely beaded acidity, letting everything drape beautifully on the finish. Alluring on its own, but this really begs for some Cabrales. Drink now.Wine Advocate 91 points The NV Almacenista Jose Luis Gonzalez Obregon Oloroso del Puerto produced from Palomino grapes and aged in Puerto de Santa Maria by the sea, has a chestnut color with a green-amber edge, clean sweet notes of roasted nuts, cake and oranges, a medium- to full-bodied palate with a smoky character and great length.

Winemaker Description

Tio Pepe Fino Sherry is a star bright, pale golden color. It is elegant and distinctive, with fresh bread and almond aromas. The palate is full bodied, crisp and very dry, with a complex, long finish.

Perfect with canapes and tapas, Asian food, seafood and all fish based dishes. Try it with caviar, oysters, anchovies or tuna carpaccio. Winemaker Description.

Expert Review

James Suckling 90 Points | This is the prototypical fino sherry with all the salty and yeasty character you expect. Also dried-apple, pear and lemon-zest character. Generous, but very dry and salty on the palate with a refreshing touch of austerity. Where are the olives? Drink now, if possible from a freshly opened bottle.

Winemaker Description

A pale and delicate light dry Sherry that is light in color. Commonly served cold as an aperitif, many consider this Spanish wine to be the world's finest Sherry. Finos are excellent when young. A delicate pale cocktail sherry noted for its fine, dry after taste.

Winemaker Description

González Byass Alfonso Oloroso Seco is a wine made from Palomino Fino from their own vineyards.

As soon as the grapes arrive at the winery, they are softly pressed to obtain the free-run must (mosto yema), which will be used to make this wine. After fermentation, classification and fortification at 18% vol., the wine enters the "solera", where it will remain for an average of eight years in American oak butts, following the traditional "solera" system. The wine ages in full contact with the air, which allows its complete oxidation.

A fresh, inviting expression of Rioja, Arienzo de Marqués de Riscal Crianza 2022 showcases Tempranillo’s vibrant fruit and approachable character. Sourced from vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, this versatile red combines youthful energy with the mellow complexity of 17 months of aging in American oak.

Bright red-fruit aromas mingle with subtle notes of vanilla, coconut and oak spice. The palate is generous and supple, offering juicy cherry and raspberry flavors, a creamy texture and gentle, well-integrated tannins. A persistent, lightly spiced finish makes this an appealing choice for everyday enjoyment and relaxed meals with friends.
