4 Monos, meaning “four monkeys,” began with four wine-loving friends who met while hiking in the Gredos mountains. Their first vintage together was 2010. The project champions organic farming and the varied mountain landscapes west of Madrid, where old bush vines grow on sand, granite and schist.

GR 10 is the team’s regional, Garnacha-led red, drawn from parcels in Cadalso de los Vidrios, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Cenicientos. The existing notes describe red fruit, pepper and earth, with whole bunches contributing texture. Try it slightly chilled alongside a charcuterie board.

Winemaker Description

This fun Spanish wine project is the brainchild of four friends who share a similar philosophy on viticulture and winemaking. This affordable 'Tinto' hails from the Sierra de Gredos region of Spain and is dominated by Grenache.

GR-10 Tinto is the team's Vino de Sierra or "villages level" red from several parcels in Cadalso de los Vidrios, San Martín de Valdeiglesias & Cenicientos. The grapes are typically cold macerated 50% whole cluster and 50% de-stemmed, wild yeast fermented for 30-40 days, then raised in 300, 400 and 500 liter used barrels for 9 months.

About 50% of whole bunches are used, which add texture and weight to this easy-drinking wine. Notes of red fruit, pepper, and earth make this wine perfect for sipping chilled alongside charcuterie boards.
