Winemaker Description
2022 was a near ideal vintage for Sauvignon Blanc. Along with Yakima Valley, this is our first vintage sourcing several Sauvignon Blanc clones from Horse Heaven Hills, and represents our latest harvest date on record for our Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The new winemaking team worked with our vineyard managers to update our viticultural practices, reducing yields (on average) by 30% for each site.
All three vineyard sites were picked in the early morning light on October 7th, 2022. Upon arriving at the winery, the grapes were whole cluster pressed under a blanket of protective CO2 and the juice was delivered into tank. It was then cold settled for 24 hours before being fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks. Fermentation techniques were selected individually for each vineyard to help accentuate the fruit and typicity from each location. Primary fermentation was slow and cool, allowing the wine to hold onto its intense aromatic profile. Aged in stainless steel and small parts neutral oak for 5 months. Secondary fermentation was arrested to preserve freshness and acidity and the wine was blended shortly before bottling. The wine was bottled on March 28th, 2023. Only 4510 cases were made.
Two separate clones were included in the final blend (Sauvignon Blanc: 1, Gist).
The 2022 Matthews Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc is yellow jasmine in color with flecks of green. Intense aromatics of starfruit, lemony sorrel leaf, juicy green pear and mandarin orange open to honeysuckle and linden flower. Followed by flavors of lemon curd, oyster shell, candied orange peel and flint, this medium bodied, balanced wine has refreshing acidity. It finishes long with briney and stoney flavors that are taught and textural.

Matthiason Winery
STORY
We first started making Rosé more than 25 years ago in our backyard, because no one was making the style of Rosé we wanted to drink: with complex French Provençal flavors, but much lighter and crisper. Today, we source the grapes from the Windmill Vineyard and the Muller Vineyard in the Dunnigan Hills AVA of Yolo County. Both vineyards are lovingly farmed organically - and in fact Steve taught one of the vineyard managers how to farm organically 14 years ago.

Christina Pickard of WIne Enthusiast writes 93 Points | Dried herbs and lemongrass, with passionfruit sorbet, open this lovely, balanced Sauvignon. It's textural, long and persistent, with a salted pink grapefruit finish.

Matusalem 30 Years VORS Cream Sherry by Gonzalez & Byass 375ml HALF BOTTLE
Winemaker Description
Matusalem is a 30 year old blend of Oloroso and PX. It shows an intense mahogany color with profound aromas of dried fruits, raisins, spices and mature oak. On the palate it is smooth, sweet, long and velvety. This wine has an interesting bittersweet finish due to the sweetness of the PX and the bitter tannins from the oak. Ideal with mature cheeses and blue cheese such as Stilton. Also perfect as a dessert wine with apple pie. Serve chilled.
Expert Reviews
Decanter | Perfumed with inviting layers of coffee, almond savoury herb and spice, then to a luxurious palate of caraway, orange zest, molasses and bitter chocolate.
Wine Enthusiast | Forget about Sherry styles, Matusalem operates in its own zone with its own rules. An intense, smoky nose shows charred barrel notes and prune aromas. A rich but snappy palate is not the least bit sticky, while deep flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and molasses finish with grace.
Wine Spectator | Walnut, halva, raisin and buckwheat honey notes are layered, backed by hints of bitter almond and toasted pecan. Shows good energy for a cream style, with the bitter edge imparting length and cut.
Mauro Vergano Chinato Moscato Luli 500ml
Expert Reviews
Dillon Mafit writes: The chinato tasted like the nectar of the gods, like the most perfectly ripe apricot drizzled in honey, dropped into a glass of 1967 Château Rieussec Sauterne, and dosed with some sort of bitter aphrodisiac. - thrillist.com
In Mauro Vergano's words (courtesy of LDM website): "I must say that producing a Chinato from Moscato wine was my first big challenge. First produced in 2003, it was the first product of its kind present on the market. The wine I use is a Moscato d’Asti with a higher alcohol content (more than 10%) compared to the ones that are commonly available. As is well-known, the Moscato I use comes from the prestigious winery of Vittorio Bera & Figli. I have to admit that when I was first looking for a Moscato for the first attempts I used wine from various producers, then I was lucky enough to meet Gianluigi Bera and his Moscato and I haven’t left them since. His Moscato’s fragrance and its full-bodiedness meld perfectly with the aromatic extract composed of citrus zest, cinnamon and vanilla. These fresh and sweet aromas are balanced by the bitter flavour of the China (Calisaya and Succirubra) which give it a persistent taste that is absolutely unique. A brief description of the production cycle which all the products share: The first step is the preparation of the extract or “concia”. This is done by leaving a mixture of chopped herbs and spices in alcohol for about 20/30 days. Then the extract is filtered and left to age for a few months. The second step is the actual preparation of the product. To make the product I mix the extract, sugar and alcohol. The last step is clarification followed by filtering which produces a clear product with long-term stability."

Max Ferdinand Richter Riesling Veldenzer Elisenberg Kabinett 2023 750ml
Expert Review - Vintage 2023
James Suckling 93 Points | This Mosel Kabinett is very sleek and racy, with striking aromas of lime zest and cassis, Light-bodied with acidity that feels as if sparks are jumping around inside your mouth, pushing the touch of grape sweetness way into the background. I love this originality, but some may find it a bit challenging. From a unique site with quartzitic soil. Drink or hold.
Winemaker Description
Back to the fantastic Vintage 2023, this time from the Mosel, where we find our next top wine from the classic producer Maximum Ferdinand Richter, who have owned their vineyards for more than 300 years. Ownership of the Veldenzer Elisenberg vineyard began in 1813 when Richter ancestor Franz Ludwig Niessen learned of Napoleon Bonaparte's plan to demolish the cherished Veldenz vineyard. Niessen arranged a personal payment to the General to stop the destruction. The whole slope of Veldenzer Elisenberg was given to him by the municipality as a token of appreciation, and has stayed in the family ever since. The quartz soils of the Veldenz produce Rieslings that exhibit flavors of red currant, raspberry, and blueberry… an unusual quality to find in Riesling, but also a trait that makes this wine oh-so-charming, memorable and utterly delicious.

Concentrated peachy fruit is married to excellent structure and the balance of the touch of natural grape sweetness with wet stone minerality and crisp acidity is dazzling. Very long and vibrant finish. Drink or hold.

Meletti Liquore Amaro 750ml
Expert Review
Points Wine Enthusiast | The brisk, invigorating scent of this amaro hovers between herbal and medicinal. On the palate, it skews sweeter, with rich caramel and hazelnut flavors and just enough bitterness and baking spice to keep things interesting. Best Buy.
Producer Description
Meletti Amaro is produced according to a secret family recipe that originated at the turn of the century. This remarkable blend of aromatic fruits, herbs, and spices creates a perfectly balanced digestivo that is neither overly bitter, nor overly sweet. Amaro is traditionally enjoyed on its own after a meal, but the intoxicating aromas and flavors of sweet orange peel and bitter genziana root, a plant local Le Marche, along with notes of cloves, add a unique component to cocktails. Winemaker Description

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2020
James Suckling 93 Points: A fragrant red with a timid nose of blue fruit, dried herbs and some crushed stones and raspberries. Tightly wound and medium- to full-bodied with tender red fruit. Very compact, with an elegant rigidity that is very appealing. Pure Sangiovese from a single vineyard in Radda in Chianti, which is one of the highest villages in Chianti Classico. This is already drinkable, but I would love to revisit it in a couple of years.
The Wine Spectator 89 Points | Balsamic aromas and flavors of tomato leaf and eucalyptus frame the cherry and berry fruit in this dense, solidly built red. Though perhaps just closed now, overall this falls a little short on the earthy finish. Best from 2026 through 2038. 7,500 cases made, 325 cases imported.
Melka CJ Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 750ml
Melville Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills 2023 750ml 94Vinous 93JD
Our Expert Review
Debra of 67Wine.com writes 91 Points | This cool climate chardonnay, energetic, lively, fresh and concentrated , comes from Melville's Santa Rita Hills Estate.
Polished, refined, linear with ample depth, shows a harmonious balance of acidity and flavors of ripe apple fruits, citrus and a spicy finish.
For 'old world' chardonnay drinkers, this 'new world' chardonnay may just appeal to you.
Expert Review - Vintage 2023
Vinous 94 Points | The 2023 Chardonnay Estate is exquisite. Floral and lifted, with striking precision, the Melville Chardonnay makes such a strong case for why Chardonnay is so ideally suited here. Lemon confit, jasmine and light tropical inflections are some of the notes that grace this sublimely elegant white. Bright acids pull it all together on the finish. I would give the 2023 six months to a year in bottle, as it is pretty tightly wound at this stage.
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points | Ripe lemon and citrus fruits, some minty herbs, and chalky minerality all emerge from the 2023 Chardonnay Estate Sta. Rita Hills, a clean, vibrant, focused Chardonnay that has solid acidity, beautiful overall balance and texture, and a great finish. The estate comes all from the Melville Vineyard and was raised in neutral oak.

Mendel Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Mendoza 2022 750ml
August 2025 Dinners: What we love about this Argentine wine is its muted alcohol in the nose. We all feel that too often Argentine wines are dominated by alcohol and Mendel is not. Yes, it is there but in a balanced way that does not disturb the excellent fruit nose. It is almost full bodied, and has plenty of black fruit flavors, mixed with minerals and background herbs. The winemaker Roberto de la Mota ages the Cabernet in 100% oak barrels for 12 months which really gives this wine the feel of many well made French Cabernet based wines. And, yes of course enjoyed by our friends. - Bernie & Dorothy, Paulo & Barbara, and Annie - Follow the Drinker®
Expert Review - Vintage 2022
James Suckling 92 Points | Complex nose showing ashy blackcurrants, grilled dark spices, briars and cigar box. Full-bodied on the palate with a mouthful of fine, dusty tannins. Structured and very long. Showing lots of potential. Drink from 2025.
Jesica Vargas of The Wine Enthusiast writes 91 Points | This is a delicious and fresh Cabernet Sauvignon from Luján de Cuyo. A note of black pepper adds spice to a bouquet of ripe strawberries and red plums. Similar fruit flavors and leafy notes burst on the palate. It has a fine texture, with red berries shaping its tasty finish.
Matthew Luczy writes: The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Finca de Los Andes hails from ungrafted vines planted in 1994 and matured in equal parts new, second- and third-use barrique for 12 months. It opens with a dramatic, lush and dark-fruited nose, introducing a sleek, velvety and polished palate. It concludes with a refined, structured and spice-inflected finish. This is a sumptuous yet contemporary expression of Luján de Cuyo. Drinking 2024 to 2032. - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 92
Virginia Boone writes: Thick and rich, this 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Finca de los Andes is tannic and powerfully built, with full-bodied intensity and grip. The red and black currant and cherry fruit is overlaid in cedar, leather, and toasted oak, grippy through a long finish. It should drink best 2028-2032. Jeb Dunnuck 90

Expert Review - Vintage 2020
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points | The 2020 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is ripe with raspberry candy, crushed rose petal, and turned earth. James Sucklimg 93 Points | Aromas of spiced cherry, plum and fresh mint. Medium-to full-bodied with silky tannins. An interesting, well-balanced mix of fresh red and black fruit and savory spice. Good concentration." James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2022
Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate 90 Points | The 2020 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is scented of wild berry jam, blueberries, juniper and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has a firm, slightly rustic texture, understated fruits and rounded freshness." Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate, July 2022
Winemaker Description
Our 2020 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir reflects the nature of its coastal growing area. Cool evening fog wafts in from the ocean during the early evening and recedes gradually by noon, leaving behind cool, refreshed vines ready to bask in the sun. This wine, a blend of grapes from multiple vineyards, is a true representation of the marine-influenced region, where the environment allows us to leave the grapes on the vine long enough to develop abundant aromas and deep flavors.
The inviting nose offers up scents of Santa Rosa red plums, cassis, dried sweet figs and pomegranate backed by sandalwood and hints of tea rose. Bright and exciting on the palate, the entry begins with firm tannins and complex layers of red raspberries, bergamot tea, dried herbs and rose petal notes. Refreshing acidity carries the wine throughout the finish.
