Expert Reviews – Vintage 2018

James Suckling 97 Points | Subtle and complex red with blackberry, black truffle, sweet tobacco and mahogany. Highlights of lavender and violets. Full-bodied and very tight with finesse and tension. Very polished, fine tannins. Long finish. Delicious already, but best after 2022.

Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points | The 2018 Rubicon is based on 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Classy notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, freshly crushed stone, and cedar. Beautifully balanced with gorgeous tannins, integrated acidity, and outstanding length. Give this classic beauty 4–5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 15–20.

Wine Spectator 93 Points | Alluring aromatically, with restrained yet complex notes of mulberry, loganberry and anise. Refined structure drapes nicely on the finish with a mineral hint. Drink now through 2035.

Expert Review - Vintage 2019

The Wine Advocate 94 Points | The 2019 Gold Vidal Icewine was fermented and aged for about 14 weeks in 90% new French oak. It comes in with 272 grams of residual sugar, 10.5 of total acidity and 10% alcohol. Rich and unctuous, this also has classic aromatics and a certain level of freshness that keeps it from being particularly cloying. This is also completely delicious, with a little of bit of spicy apricots on the mouthwatering finish. The acidity lifts the fruit and allows it to shine through. It's never going to be a nervy wine, but it is not flabby either. If you like stickies, this won't disappoint. It should age very well, acquiring a bit more character along the way. Many will like it the way it is, but it can acquire another dimension in time. Best After 2021

Memo Summary Note

The Inniskillin Vidal Gold Icewine 2019 from the Niagara Peninsula is a luxurious, oak-aged expression that has earned world-class critical acclaim for this specific vintage.

• Traditional Pairings: Classic desserts like Crème Brûlée, apple tarte tatin, or a tropical fruit compote.

• Savoury & Bold: It pairs brilliantly with Blue Cheese (like Roquefort), foie gras, or even a spicy Thai curry.

• The "Niagara" Way: Try it with a brown butter lobster salad or a Vidal onion soup with cheese croutons.

From the Troesmes sub-climat of Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy, this organically farmed wine reflects the limestone-rich terroir of one of Burgundy’s celebrated white wine regions. Located northwest of the village of Chablis, within the communes of Poinchy and Beine, Beauroy encompasses three sub-climats: Beauroy, Côte de Savant, and Troesmes.

The gently sloping vineyards face south to southeast, with shallow topsoil over Kimmeridgian limestone and white clay. Isabelle and Denis Pommier farm organically and work the soils manually. Grapes are harvested into small 15-kilogram cases and pressed immediately.

Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place equally in tank and neutral oak barrels of varying ages. The wine then spends 18 months on its lees, with two-thirds aged in tank and one-third in oak.

Vineyard & Winemaking

Isle Saint Pierre IGP Méditerranée Rosé — Southern France 2025

Isle Saint-Pierre takes its name from a small island at the mouth of the Rhône river, where 200 hectares of vines grow on sandy, silty, alluvial soils that lend the wine a subtle iodized salinity and a distinctly Mediterranean character. The blend is a generous one — Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Nielluccio, Vermentino, and Colombard — farmed sustainably and vinified with cold maceration and 100% free-run juice to preserve maximum freshness and aromatic lift. The result is a bistro-style rosé that over-delivers at every turn.

The 2025 pours a pale, luminous pink. The nose is lively and inviting — ripe strawberry, fresh red fruit, and a hint of dried fig with a whisper of floral lift. On the palate, it's vibrant and easy-drinking with an elegant texture and a lingering fresh finish that keeps you coming back. Serve well-chilled at 8–10°C and open it without ceremony — this is a wine built for the moment.

Expert Review - Vintage 2020

Antonio Galloni writes:  The 2020 Cepparello is a total stunner, just as it was last year. Deeply colored, layered and explosive in the glass, the 2020 possesses striking textural richness and overall intensity. Black cherry, graphite, plum, spice and lavender flesh out effortlessly. There's tremendous pedigree and sheer stature here. Cepparello is surely one of the wines of the year.  Drinking 2027 to 2045.  - Vinous 98

The Wine Advocate, Monica Larner, 96 Points | Supple and smooth, the 2020 Cepparello brings Sangiovese to soaring heights in a manner only Paolo De Marchi can manage. This is his second to last vintage before he would retire and sell this historic estate. The wine opens to medium to full-bodied concentration with dark plum and redcurrant. Those cede to sweet spice, earth, crushed stone, rusty nail and candied orange peel. Give the wine more time to flesh out with cellar age.

The Wine Spectator 96 Points | Expressive and sumptuous from the get-go, this red features cherry, strawberry, rose, orange peel, mineral and Tuscan herb aromas and flavors. Sangiovese. Best from 2025 through 2045.

James Suckling 94 Points | Attractive red and dark berries with dried flowers, nutmeg and cocoa powder. Dried orange peel and wet earth, too. Medium- to full-bodied, toned and steady with fine-grained tannins that are slightly chalky. Polished and even with a lingering finish. Try after 2026.

Where the story begins.
Complex, layered and unusually savory, Assemblage 1 established the essential IWA 5 signature: richness without heaviness, finely balanced aromatics, saline persistence and distinctive umami. This is the founding expression — the sake that introduced Richard Geoffroy's vision to the world.

Assemblage 1 introduced a sake grounded in Japanese tradition but deliberately unconventional in its pursuit of balance between aroma, palate, texture and finish. Its aromatic profile leans toward deeper, darker tones than one might expect from Junmai Daiginjo, while the palate is beautifully composed, savory and persistent.

Subtle fruit and vegetal notes evolve toward spice and wood as the sake warms, eventually revealing more bitter, saline and umami-driven dimensions with suggestions of iodine and licorice.

Assemblage 1 uses Yamada Nishiki, Omachi and Gohyakumangoku rice, five yeast strains, predominantly traditional Kimoto methods and reserve sake components. It is a Junmai Daiginjo with no added alcohol; its classification is based on a 50% polishing rate for the least-polished component.

Style: Complex · Savory · Layered · Saline · Umami-Rich

Serving: Fascinating across a range of temperatures; allow it to open in the glass. A compelling opportunity to experience where the entire Assemblage project began.

Assemblage 1 is the most foundational expression of IWA — the origin of a remarkable and ongoing story.

Producer: IWA 5  |  Region: Toyama, Japan  |  Type: Junmai Daiginjo  |  Volume: 720ml

Purity comes into focus.
Assemblage 2 heightens the aromatic expression of IWA 5, building upon the balance and textural complexity of the inaugural release while placing greater emphasis on purity and aromatic definition. Floral and vegetal when cool, increasingly fruity and spicy as it warms, it finishes mineral, persistent and mouthwatering.

At cooler temperatures, the sake is taut, luminous and precise, showing delicate vegetal and floral qualities. As it warms, the expression becomes more energetic and expansive, with fruit and spice emerging alongside increased persistence.

At warmer temperatures, the palate gains body and breadth while retaining its clarity, introducing mineral, earthy and gently bitter elements with a mouthwatering, savory finish and nuances of licorice.

The assemblage is composed from Yamada Nishiki, Omachi and Gohyakumangoku, along with five different yeast strains, predominantly traditional Kimoto and reserve sake components. All individual components are polished to 35%, with no added alcohol.

Style: Pure · Floral · Vibrant · Mineral · Precise

Serving: Particularly compelling as it moves from cool to cellar temperature. For the collector interested in following the evolution of IWA, Assemblage 2 marks an important refinement of the original vision — clearer, brighter and increasingly expressive.

Assemblage 2 is where IWA's purity of vision becomes unmistakable.

Intensity without weight.
Bright floral and vegetal notes gradually reveal deeper tones and IWA's characteristic white-pepper spice. The palate is energetic, seamless and beautifully balanced, culminating in a racy, tactile finish.

With Assemblage 3, IWA turns up the intensity while maintaining the sense of equilibrium that defines the project.

The nose is highly defined, opening with bright vegetal and floral impressions rather than overt fruit. Given time and air, deeper and more complex tones emerge, accompanied by the distinctive suggestion of white pepper that has become part of IWA's aromatic signature.

The palate delivers an impressive combination of presence and weightlessness. Energetic and finely structured, it builds toward a tactile, racy and intensely mouthwatering finish without becoming heavy. The result is a Junmai Daiginjo that feels simultaneously powerful and exceptionally controlled.

Assemblage 3 combines Yamada Nishiki, Omachi and Gohyakumangoku, five yeast strains, predominantly traditional Kimoto and reserve sake components. The individual components are polished to 35%, with no added alcohol.

Style: Intense · Floral · Energetic · White Pepper · Mouthwatering

Serving: Excellent with food and particularly interesting as it develops with air and temperature.

Assemblage 3 is where IWA's quiet elegance begins to show a distinctly more energetic edge.

Producer: IWA 5  |  Region: Toyama, Japan  |  Type: Junmai Daiginjo  |  Volume: 720ml

Juicy, lifted and wonderfully expressive.
Assemblage 4 brings a more playful and vibrant dimension to IWA 5, combining generous texture with remarkable freshness. Notes of marzipan, citrus zest, sansho and fennel unfold across a sake that feels energetic, precise and beautifully composed.

With Assemblage 4, IWA continues to explore the possibilities of assemblage through contrast and balance. There is richness here, but it is never heavy. Instead, the sake moves effortlessly across the palate, with bright aromatics and savory complexity creating a sense of constant motion.

The nose opens with delicate notes of marzipan and fresh citrus zest, followed by the distinctive aromatic lift of sansho pepper. As the sake develops, subtle herbal and anise-like tones of fennel emerge, adding freshness and complexity.

On the palate, Assemblage 4 is juicy, supple and energetic. Its rounded texture is balanced by a lively, finely structured freshness that keeps the sake focused from beginning to end. Citrus and spice carry through the finish, leaving a clean, savory and mouthwatering impression.

The result is a Junmai Daiginjo that feels both sophisticated and spontaneous — expressive enough to enjoy on its own, yet versatile and dynamic at the table.

Style: Juicy · Dancing · Marzipan · Sansho · Citrus Zest · Fennel

Serving: Serve lightly chilled. Particularly rewarding with food, and worth allowing to develop in the glass as its temperature slowly rises.

Assemblage 4 captures IWA's signature sense of harmony while introducing an especially lively, vibrant and gastronomic personality.

Producer: IWA 5  |  Region: Toyama, Japan  |  Type: Junmai Daiginjo  |  Volume: 720ml

Gravitas, depth and beautifully layered complexity.
Assemblage 5 reveals a deeper, more contemplative side of IWA 5, combining richness and aromatic intensity with the precision and balance that define the project. Notes of plum, raspberry, jasmine, pineapple and almond unfold gradually, creating a sake of remarkable dimension and poise.

With Assemblage 5, IWA moves toward greater depth and concentration while preserving an essential sense of freshness. The aromatics are generous yet refined, with ripe fruit, delicate florals and subtle nutty tones coming together in a seamless, harmonious expression.

The nose opens with notes of plum and raspberry, followed by an elegant floral lift of jasmine. As the sake develops in the glass, hints of pineapple and almond emerge, adding richness and complexity without overwhelming its finely balanced character.

On the palate, Assemblage 5 is broad, layered and composed. There is a satisfying sense of weight and depth, yet the texture remains polished and controlled. Fruit, floral and savory elements build gradually toward a long, refined finish that is both generous and exceptionally precise.

The result is a Junmai Daiginjo with genuine gravitas — complex and expressive, but never excessive. It rewards slow tasting and continues to reveal new dimensions as it opens in the glass.

Style: Gravitas · Depth · Plum · Raspberry · Jasmine · Pineapple · Almond

Serving: Serve lightly chilled and allow time in the glass for the aromatics and texture to fully develop. An excellent choice for richer dishes and more contemplative drinking.

Assemblage 5 shows IWA at its most profound and layered, balancing generosity and depth with remarkable elegance and control.

Producer: IWA 5  |  Region: Toyama, Japan  |  Type: Junmai Daiginjo  |  Volume: 720ml

Poised, precise and quietly complex.
Assemblage 6 presents a refined and highly detailed expression of IWA 5, combining exotic fruit, floral lift, savory depth and subtle bitterness in a remarkably controlled style. Notes of lychee, gardenia, green papaya, nori seaweed and dark chocolate create a sake that is both elegant and distinctive.

With Assemblage 6, IWA explores contrast through delicacy and depth. The aromatic profile is expressive yet composed, moving from bright floral and tropical notes toward more savory, mineral and umami-driven tones as the sake opens.

The nose begins with lychee and gardenia, bringing a fragrant, lifted character. With air, notes of green papaya emerge, followed by a subtle savory suggestion of nori seaweed and a darker, more complex note reminiscent of dark chocolate.

On the palate, Assemblage 6 is precise and finely structured. The texture is polished and seamless, with freshness carrying the sake from its bright opening through a more savory and contemplative middle. The finish is long, clean and quietly persistent, with delicate umami and bittersweet tones adding complexity.

The result is a Junmai Daiginjo of remarkable poise — layered and expressive without becoming heavy, and particularly compelling as it evolves in the glass.

Style: Poised · Precise · Lychee · Gardenia · Green Papaya · Nori · Dark Chocolate

Serving: Serve lightly chilled and allow it to warm gradually in the glass. Its combination of floral, savory and umami notes makes it especially versatile with food.

Assemblage 6 captures IWA's signature balance in a particularly refined form, offering elegance, complexity and a distinctive savory edge.

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023

Decanter 90 Points | Attractive and perfumed, with wild herb and spiced berry aromatics, vibrant palate of sour cherry, spice and a neat acidity.

The Wine Enthusiast by Jesica Vargas writes 89 Points | The grapes are sourced from old vines in the Maule Valley. This País preserves its varietal typicity, offering intense strawberry aromas. The earthy palate is shaped by tart berries and hints of linden tea, alongside just enough acidity to make it a good match for Spanish tapas or Margherita pizza.

Memo Summary Notes

The J. Bouchon "País Viejo" 2023 is a celebrated "rescue wine" from Chile’s Maule Valley. While the Rivera del Notro you looked at earlier is a raw, small-production natural wine, this "Viejo" (Old) bottling is arguably the wine that brought the País grape back into the global spotlight.

It is produced from 100-year-old bush vines that are dry-farmed (no irrigation), forcing the roots deep into granitic soils to find water and nutrients.

Pair with

The "Bouchon Pick": They specifically recommend this with fatty fish (like salmon or tuna) or simple pasta dishes.

Rustic: Charcuterie, pork sausages (longaniza), or a classic margherita pizza.

Winemaker Description

In the eastern reaches of Sancerre lies a distinctive terroir defined by silex — the French term for flint — a dense, siliceous soil that gives this wine its singular mineral character. Light yellow with a golden core, the nose reveals fine, elegant flint-smoke notes that immediately announce the wine’s origins. Beneath the minerality, a layer of yellow fruit and delicate florals adds complexity and density.

On the palate, the flint-smoke character continues, framed by a full, juicy mouthfeel that remains precise and elegant. Powerful acidity drives the long, tense finish. This is Sauvignon Blanc at its most mineral and structured — the clay-siliceous soils, rich in siliceous conglomerates, providing exceptional finesse and a marked aromatic intensity that sets the Silex cuvée apart from classic Sancerre.

J. Vignier Aux Origines Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (2017 Base)

“Aux Origines” — where it all began — is a deeply personal Champagne that honors the roots of the Vignier family’s winemaking history. Produced entirely from Chardonnay grown in Les Simarts, the first vineyards planted by Nathalie Vignier’s grandparents, Marie-Louise and Paul, in the village of Barbonne-Fayel during the 1960s, this is a wine of place, memory, and exceptional craft. The Côte de Sézanne’s clay and sandy soils over chalk yield generous, expressive Chardonnay with both ripe fruit character and the chalky minerality that defines great Champagne. Fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation, rested seven months on fine lees, then aged a minimum of 36 months in bottle before disgorgement — the result is a Blanc de Blancs of remarkable depth, texture, and elegance.

• Producer: J. Vignier
• Cuvée: Aux Origines
• Grape: 100% Chardonnay
• Region: Côte de Sézanne, Champagne, France
• Vineyard: Les Simarts, Barbonne-Fayel
• Base Vintage: 2017
• Size: 750ml
• Farming: Certified Sustainable (Socofret)
• Vinification: Stainless steel; full malolactic fermentation; 7 months on fine lees; 36+ months bottle aging

J. Vignier Deux Terres Blanc de Blancs Brut — Cramant & Côte de Sézanne 2010

Deux Terres — “Two Lands” — is J. Vignier’s most geographically ambitious cuvée, drawing 100% Chardonnay from two distinct and contrasting terroirs: Le Bateau in the Grand Cru village of Cramant on the Côte des Blancs, and Les Bercottes in Barbonne-Fayel on the Côte de Sézanne. The connection between the two sites runs deeper than geography — the Sézanne vines were planted by massal selection using cuttings from the family’s oldest Cramant vineyards, creating a living lineage between the two parcels. The vines are 50 to 60 years old, rooted in Cretaceous chalk, marl, and clay. Vinified in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation and aged a minimum of eight years en tirage, the 2010 vintage — one of Champagne’s finest of the decade — emerges with extraordinary depth, integration, and a long, dry finish. Certified sustainable by Socofret.

Elegant and finely structured: citrus, orchard fruit, toasted brioche, almond, and subtle pastry notes on the nose, deepening with air into mature Champagne complexity. The palate is rich yet focused — Cramant’s chalky precision and Sézanne’s generous, expressive fruit resolved into a wine of remarkable harmony. Eight-plus years on the lees have built a creamy mousse and seamless texture, while the naturally bright acidity keeps everything energetic and long on the finish.

“Deux Terres is a study in complementary opposites — Cramant’s mineral precision and Sézanne’s generous fruit, united by 50-year-old vines and eight years of patience.”

J. Vignier Ora Alba Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut — Côte des Blancs 2013 Base

Ora Alba — "the first light of day" — is J. Vignier's interpretation of northern Côte des Blancs Chardonnay at its most luminous and precise. Produced entirely from Grand Cru fruit sourced from three prestigious villages — Cramant, Chouilly, and Oiry — the cuvée draws on deep Cretaceous chalk complemented by marl and clay, a geology that yields Champagne of both mineral tension and generous texture. Cramant contributes structure and pronounced chalky minerality, Chouilly adds elegance and ripe fruit, and Oiry brings freshness and linear precision. Vinified and aged in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation, then aged on the lees for an extended period before disgorgement, the 2013 base gives the wine exceptional depth and a decade-plus of development. Certified sustainable by Socofret.

Fresh and refined on the nose: lemon zest, white peach, green apple, and delicate white flowers, with subtle brioche and toasted almond emerging with air. The palate is precise and energetic — layers of citrus, orchard fruit, and chalky minerality carried by fine bubbles and a softly creamy texture. The finish is long, dry, and elegant, with a persistent mineral drive that speaks clearly of its Grand Cru origins.

"Ora Alba is the Vignier family's vision of northern Côte des Blancs Chardonnay — bright, luminous, and deeply mineral."

A 2013 base. Three Grand Cru villages. Extended lees aging. J. Vignier's Ora Alba is northern Côte des Blancs Blanc de Blancs at its most precise and compelling.

J. Vignier’s Pur Cramant is a rare, single-vineyard Grand Cru Champagne created to capture the character of one exceptional parcel in Cramant. For this cuvée, Nathalie Vignier selects a different lieu-dit from her family’s Cramant holdings according to which site she believes most clearly expresses the personality of the vintage. For the 2016 release, that vineyard was Les Fourches.

Located in the southern part of Cramant, close to the renowned Bateau vineyard, Les Fourches is planted with Chardonnay vines more than 55 years old. The parcel’s northeast-facing slopes and distinctive combination of clay-rich marl over pure Cretaceous chalk create a Champagne with both depth and precision. The marl contributes texture and power, while the deep chalk subsoil provides freshness, tension and the refined mineral character associated with the finest wines of the Côte des Blancs.

Produced entirely from Grand Cru Chardonnay, the wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the purity of the fruit and the clarity of the vineyard expression. It underwent full malolactic fermentation and remained on its lees until bottling in April following the harvest. The Champagne then spent approximately 64 months aging en tirage before disgorgement, developing a fine mousse, greater complexity and a beautifully integrated texture.

Pur Cramant Les Fourches is precise, concentrated and elegantly structured. Aromas of lemon zest, white peach, green apple and white flowers are complemented by subtle notes of brioche, almond and chalk. The palate is energetic and finely textured, with bright citrus, ripe orchard fruit and a pronounced mineral core. Its Extra-Brut dosage keeps the finish dry, focused and persistent while allowing the character of the old vines and chalk-rich terroir to remain at the forefront.

This is a sophisticated, terroir-driven Champagne that is equally compelling as an aperitif or served with food. Pair it with oysters, caviar, scallops, lobster, sushi, roasted white fish, creamy poultry dishes, mushroom risotto or aged cheeses.

J. Vignier QVFMR “Les Jardins d’Elise” Grand Cru Extra Brut — Cramant 2008

Les Jardins d’Elise is among the most extraordinary Champagnes we carry — a single-vintage, single-village Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from J. Vignier’s Cuvée Éphémère collection, produced in tiny quantities and released only when the wine is ready. The cuvée honors Nathalie Vignier’s great-grandmother Elise, who helped establish the three Cramant lieux-dits at its heart: Chenelots, Marais, and Herbin. The vines were between 25 and 45 years old at harvest, rooted in Cretaceous chalk, marl, and loam — the geological foundation of Grand Cru Cramant Chardonnay. Fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels on the fine lees, bottled in June 2009, and then aged an extraordinary 13 years en tirage before hand disgorgement. Dosed at just 2.7 g/L. This is a Champagne of rare depth, heritage, and patience.

Richly developed yet remarkably precise: preserved citrus, ripe orchard fruit, toasted almond, brioche, and subtle pastry notes on the nose, deepening with air into savory, almost oxidative complexity. The palate is creamy and layered — the 13 years on the lees have built a refined mousse and profound mineral structure — while the chalk-rich Cramant terroir keeps the wine fresh, focused, and long on the finish. Acidity at 6.2 g/L and pH 2.97 ensure this will continue to evolve for years to come.

“Les Jardins d’Elise is a Champagne of rare heritage and patience — 13 years en tirage, three historic Cramant lieux-dits, and a family story that stretches back generations.”

J. Vignier Les Abbesses Blanc de Blancs Brut — Côte de Sézanne 2015

Les Abbesses is J. Vignier’s single-vineyard expression of the Côte de Sézanne — a 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs from one exceptional parcel in Vindey, a village whose name is believed to derive from the Latin vinum dei: “wine of God.” The vineyard is planted on a rare combination of silex and alluvial soils over deep Cretaceous chalk — the flint-rich surface absorbs warmth during the day, driving full Chardonnay maturity, while the underlying chalk preserves freshness, tension, and mineral precision. 2015 was the inaugural vintage of this cuvée. Vinified in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation and aged 60 months in bottle, it emerges with the depth and integration of a wine that has found its voice. Certified sustainable by Socofret.

Deep and self-possessed on the nose: white flowers, ripe orchard fruit, and fresh citrus, with subtle brioche and a focused mineral core emerging with air. The palate is elegant yet generous — fine bubbles, creamy texture, and a chalky freshness that carries through a long, dry, and graceful finish. The Sézanne terroir gives the wine a rounder, more expressive character than the northern Côte des Blancs, while the silex soils add a distinctive smoky, flinty edge that sets Les Abbesses apart.

“Les Abbesses is the inaugural expression of a remarkable terroir — silex and chalk in Vindey, the village of the ‘wine of God,’ rendered with precision and generosity in equal measure.”

J. Vignier Les Longues Verges Grand Cru Brut — Cramant & Chouilly 2013

Les Longues Verges is J. Vignier’s most distinctive single-vineyard cuvée — a Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from a unique parcel that straddles the boundary between two of the Côte des Blancs’ most celebrated villages: Cramant and Chouilly. The name itself is a piece of history: “verges” was an old French unit of measurement, roughly 50 meters, used before the metric system. The vineyard’s northeast-facing exposure on Cretaceous chalk, marl, and clay preserves freshness and acidity while encouraging the Chardonnay to develop exceptional purity and concentration. Vinified in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation, bottled in May 2014, and aged 84 months in bottle before release — the 2013 vintage emerges with the depth and integration of a wine that has been given all the time it needs. Certified sustainable by Socofret.

Elegant and focused on the nose: bright citrus, white peach, and orchard fruit joined by jasmine, fennel, ginger, and toasted brioche. The palate is long, juicy, and finely structured — creamy texture balanced by vivid acidity and the steely, chalk-driven minerality that defines Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Cramant’s refined structure and Chouilly’s generous fruit meet in a wine of compelling harmony and a finish that lingers with precision and grace.

“Les Longues Verges sits at the boundary of two Grand Cru villages — and the wine itself is a study in contrasts beautifully resolved: structure and generosity, freshness and depth, history and precision.”

J. Vignier Silexus Sezannensis Brut — Côte de Sézanne 2016 Base

The name says it all: Silexus Sezannensis is a Champagne defined entirely by its soil. Drawn from the Chatet parcel near Saudoy in the Côte de Sézanne — where four of the Vignier family’s twelve hectares are planted — this 100% Chardonnay cuvée grows on a complex mixture of silex and sand over deep Cretaceous chalk, with marl, clay, and silica adding further texture and character. The dark flint stones absorb warmth during the day and release it slowly around the vines at night, encouraging even ripening and full Chardonnay maturity. The underlying chalk preserves freshness, acidity, and a pronounced mineral drive. Vinified in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation and aged a minimum of 84 months en tirage, the 2016 base emerges with depth, integration, and a flinty character that is unmistakably its own. Certified sustainable by Socofret.

Expressive and mineral-driven on the nose: ripe citrus, yellow apple, white peach, and delicate flowers, with subtle brioche, almond, and crushed stone emerging with air. The palate is generous yet focused — fine bubbles, bright acidity, and a distinctive flinty, smoky character that carries through the long, dry finish. The Sézanne terroir gives the wine a broader, more expressive texture than the northern Côte des Blancs, while the silex soils keep it precise, taut, and deeply mineral.

“Silexus Sezannensis is a Champagne of place above all else — silex and chalk in Saudoy, rendered with 84 months of patience and a clarity of terroir that is rare at any price.”
