Drink this outstanding, classy white over the coming 2-3 years. I never cease to be amazed at the quality of the Côtes du Rhône white from this team, especially given the quantities produced.

In 1991, this house did something no one in the Vinho Verde DOC had ever done: they made a rosé. More than three decades later, Vera remains the original — and the benchmark. The wine is built around Vinhão, a rare tinturier grape (red pulp, not just red skin) that gives the wine its striking deep color and structural backbone. Rabo de Anho — an untranslatable, rarely planted indigenous variety — rounds out the blend, adding lightness, freshness, and a delicate floral lift that keeps everything in balance. Viña Cobos Felino Chardonnay 2023 is a bright, elegant expression from the high-altitude Uco Valley of Mendoza — one of Argentina's most exciting white wine terroirs. Ca’ Marcanda Promis — Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy 2023

When Angelo Gaja — the most celebrated name in Piedmontese wine — decided to plant roots in Bolgheri, he did not do it quietly. After four years of negotiations with a single landowner (the estate’s name, Ca’ Marcanda, means “house of endless negotiations” in local dialect), he acquired the property in 1996 and set about building one of the most ambitious wine estates in all of Tuscany. Promis is Ca’ Marcanda’s entry-level wine — but “entry-level Gaja” is a very different thing from entry-level anything else. A blend of Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese from the estate’s Bolgheri vineyards, the 2023 is a classic, expressive vintage: bright, structured, and unmistakably coastal Tuscan in character.

The color is a vivid, bright ruby-red. The nose is immediately captivating: cinnamon, star anise, and warm spice frame pronounced red fruits — strawberry, black cherry, and a hint of dried violet. On the palate, the tannins are juicy and persistent, building through the mid-palate to a finish defined by a beautiful coastal salinity — the classic hallmark of great Bolgheri vintages. Medium to full-bodied. Great length and integration. Serious but approachable.

Dalton Alma Deep Red Rhone Blend Crimson Galilee Kosher 2021 750ml

Winemaker Description

From the sun-drenched hillsides of Galilee, Dalton's Alma Crimson is a bold, structured Rhone-style blend that speaks to the ambition of Israeli fine wine. Dark and full-bodied, it opens with generous aromas of ripe cherries, plums, and sweet dark fruits, leading to a rich, buttery palate layered with vanilla, cloves, and a distinctive whisper of green tea.

Crafted with meticulous attention, the grapes were harvested and fermented in separate batches to preserve the character of each variety. The wine was pressed just before completing fermentation, malolactic fermentation was encouraged, and the wine was then racked into French oak barriques for 12 months of aging. Wölffer Estate is the Hamptons’ most iconic winery — and their Gold Label Rosé is the wine that put Long Island rosé on the map. Crafted from the estate’s maritime terroir on the East End of Long Island, where cooling sea breezes off the Atlantic preserve freshness and lift, this is a rosé of genuine complexity, understated elegance, and outstanding value. The 2025 vintage is, by all accounts, one of the finest Long Island has ever produced.

The growing season was shaped by hot, dry conditions in July and August that promoted small berry size and remarkable concentration, followed by a storm-free harvest and cooling October breezes that preserved vibrancy and balance. Rosé harvest ran from September 21 through October 7. Grapes were destemmed, pressed, and cold-settled at 40°F, then fermented slowly at 62°F over three weeks. On the palate it is medium-bodied and refreshingly precise — bright lemon and lime flavors supported by lively acidity, with dried herb and mineral accents that carry through to a clean, focused finish. This is California Sauvignon Blanc at its most thoughtful.

Château Meyney is one of Saint-Estèphe’s great overachievers — a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel estate situated right next to the famed Château Montrose, whose proximity to the Gironde estuary helps cool the vines during summer heatwaves and contributes to the wine’s remarkable balance and longevity. The 2023 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot, sourced from a mix of gravelly and clay soils and aged 18 months in French oak barrels. James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck both awarded it 94 points; Vinous and The Wine Independent 93; Wine Spectator 91. Jeb Dunnuck noted that “the quality here has stepped up a notch recently” and projects a cellar window of 2029–2053.

The color is a deep, saturated purple. The nose is dark and savory: cassis, elderberry, graphite, smoky tobacco, crushed stone minerality, incense, licorice, dried herbs, and pressed lavender. Always a classic Saint-Estèphe (and I think the quality here has stepped up a notch recently), the 2023 Château Meyney comes from a mix of gravelly and clay soils and is based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. It sports a deep purple hue as well as beautiful cassis, graphite, smoky tobacco, and crushed stone-like minerality. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, focused, layered mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It’s beautifully done and is going to evolve nicely over the coming 25–30 years if well stored. Drink 2029–2053.

The 2023 Meyney is every bit as convincing as it was en primeur. Dark and quite savory, the 2023 has a lot to offer. Gravel, incense, tobacco, licorice, dried herbs, chocolate and pressed lavender infuse this mid-weight Saint-Estèphe with a good deal of character. Beams of tannin shape the insistent, driving finish.

2023 Meyney has a creamy, rounded and fruity nose with hints of yoghurt and dairy products. It is very soft and forthcoming and is made in the velvety, pleasant style very typical for the chateau. This is a good Meyney that should age well and be approachable at an early stage.

A fresh, racy-edged style, with damson plum and bitter cherry fruit framed by a chalky edge that’s embedded nicely. Iris and violet accents gild the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2033.

About Clos des Fous

Clos des Fous ("Enclosure of the Madmen") was founded in 2008 by four friends — including world-renowned terroir expert Pedro Parra — who were tired of hearing that Chilean wine was boring and industrial. They set out to make exciting wines from extreme terroirs with minimal intervention. Pedro holds a Ph.D. in terroir science and consults globally with vignerons like Jean-Marc Roulot.

The name "Grillos Cantores" means "Singing Crickets," a nod to the sound that fills this specific vineyard in Alto Cachapoal at the foot of the Andes.

Vinous: 91 Points (Prior 2023 vintage) — Minty herbs combine with crushed stone and nuances of exotic spice as the Pietramara blossoms in the glass. Soothingly round, displaying a pretty inner sweetness balanced by juicy acidity and a core of tart orchard fruits. Hints of raw almond mix with candied citrus, showing a sweet and sour character through the long and mouthwatering finale.

I Favati is one of Campania's most respected family estates, farming the volcanic hillside vineyards of Avellino with a commitment to expressing the singular character of Fiano — one of southern Italy's most ancient and distinguished white varieties. The Pietramara is the estate's flagship Fiano di Avellino, sourced from old vines planted in the high-altitude soils of the Irpinia hills, where cool temperatures, volcanic ash and mineral-rich limestone combine to produce whites of remarkable depth, tension and longevity.

Fiano di Avellino has been prized since antiquity — the Romans called it Vitis Apiana, the vine of the bees, for the irresistible sweetness of its grapes. Today it is recognized as one of Italy's finest white DOCG appellations, capable of producing wines that age gracefully for a decade or more. The Pietramara is vinified to honor that tradition: fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and aromatic precision, with extended lees contact adding texture and complexity.

The 2024 opens with aromas of lemon peel, ripe pear, white peach and a distinctive smoky, mineral note — the hallmark of Avellino's volcanic soils. With air, hints of almond blossom, dried herbs, grilled pineapple and hazelnut emerge. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity, a creamy texture and a long, mouthwatering finish marked by citrus, stone fruit and a clean saline minerality.
