Expert Reviews - Vintages 2016, 2015

(Vintage 2016) James Suckling 91 Points | A full-bodied Rioja that has plush and warming layers and aromas of plums, chocolate orange, dill and mocha. The tannins are ripe and soft. Tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo. Drink now or hold.

(Vintage 2016) The Wine Spectator 90 Points | resh earth and Mediterranean macchia notes on the nose underscore flavors of wild cherry and mulberry fruit, olive, red licorice and coffee in this lively red, with well-meshed, sculpted tannins. Spiced finish. Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. Drink now through 2029. 10,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.

(Vintage 2015) James Suckling 92 Points | Peppercorn and chili chocolate to the blackberries with a hint of bark. Savory, medium- to full-bodied on the palate with dusty tannin's and a long, creamy finish.

(Vintage 2015) Wine Spectator 92 Points | A lively red structured by fine-grained tannins, with a concentrated range of pureed cherry and black raspberry fruit, mountain herb, mocha and anise flavors. Reveals a rich underpinning of fresh loamy earth and fragrant leather, with a lasting, lightly mouthwatering finish that echoes the expressive flavor profile. Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. Drink now through 2030. 10,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.

Beronia Gran Reserva is one of my favorite Gran Reservas. Every vintage seems to get better and better. The long-term aging Gran Reserva gives the wine time to develop a great arrange of flavors and nuances, not found in younger wines. Aromas of toasty oak, cassis, dark plum and cedar. Medium to full-bodied. Great length and integration. Serious but approachable.
