Pale straw with green flashes and aromas of lemon, grapefruit and apricot along with hints of lemon sorbet, wildflowers, a liminal whiff of white pepper and stone. In Elciego, Florentino Martínez Monje and María José founded Bodegas Luberri in 1991 to make wines that speak of Rioja Alavesa and invite a second glass. Florentino helped champion the region's traditional carbonic maceration style; today, daughters Miren and Laura help carry the vineyard and cellar work forward.

At a recent Panel Tasting with fellow wine professionals for Sevenfifty.com I was able to to taste this beautiful and cheerful red from Rioja Alavesa made by winemaker Florentino Martinez Monje. Luberri Orlegi 2020 is a wonderful happy-go-lucky blend of Tempranillo & Viura using only native yeast to kick-start fermentation and carbonic macerated to preserve the youthfulness of the Tempranillo and Viura. Aromas of Blue fruit and purple flowers (violets and lilacs). On the palate the wine is fresh and pretty enticing. Beautiful finish. The perfect red for Thanksgiving with that is sure to bring lots of cheers to your dinner table.

The Château des Antonins Bordeaux Blanc 2023 is a standout example of a modern, accessible Bordeaux white. Produced at an estate with roots dating back to a 13th-century monastery, this vintage strikes a beautiful balance between historic terroir and vibrant, "New World" aromatic intensity.

The estate was originally an abbey for the Monks of Saint Anthony.

Winemaker Antoine de Roquefeuil spent time honing his craft in New Zealand. You can taste that influence here; it has the "zing" and tropical edge of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but retains the stony, structured backbone that only Bordeaux soil provides.

As it ages, develops a unique bouquet of ripe fruits, leather and spices. It has light body, good acidity, soft and delicious tannins and long aftertaste, traits that portrait it as a very elegant wine.

This wine shows deep in color, with ruby tints. It has scents of red and black berries mixed with floral notes, together with hints of delicate spices and vanilla. Made with selected grapes grown on lava terraces at an average altitude of 720 m above sea level, these Etna wines represent a unique combination of the typical elegance of mountain wine and minerality due to volcanic origin. The extraordinary wealth of minerals in Etna's volcanic soils is the source of the very sapid and typical flavor of the wines produced here.  The quality of the soil is closely tied to Etna’s volcanic origins, as it was formed through the disintegration of lavas with different compositions and from different eras, and eruptive materials such as sands, ashes, pumice stone and “lapilli”. Even the climate distinguishes the Etna area respect to the rest of Sicily. The average temperatures on the mountains are lower and the climate also changes depending on the slope and the altitude. From a winemaking standpoint, the wine diurnal temperature range is fundamental, as it gives the wines their freshness and elegant aromas.

About Clos La Coutale

The estate describes Clos La Coutale as a blend of Malbec and Merlot. It vinifies the wine in temperature-controlled tanks with regular punch-downs, then ages it in oak barrels and large oak casks for one year to balance fruit and tannins. The estate also produces a separate cuvée called Grand Coutale; its blend and aging details are not those of this wine.

Kinishihai Yukikage ‘Snow Shadow’ Tokubetsu Junmai — Niigata, Japan (300ml)

Kinishihai is brewed in Niigata Prefecture — one of Japan's most revered sake-producing regions, celebrated for its cold winters, pristine snowmelt water, and the distinctive ‘tanrei karakuchi’ style: clean, dry, and refined sake of exceptional elegance and food-friendliness. Yukikage — meaning ‘Snow Shadow’ — is a Tokubetsu Junmai, a special designation within the Junmai category indicating a higher level of rice polishing or a distinctive brewing technique that elevates the sake above the standard. It is crafted from a blend of two local Niigata rice varietals — Gohyaku Mangoku and Koshi Ibuki — both milled to 58% of their original size, removing the outer layers to reveal a cleaner, more refined grain. Fermented with S-3 yeast, which produces a mildly fragrant and clean profile with light earthy qualities, Yukikage is a true expression of the gutsy, grounded Niigata style: smooth, earthy, and built for the table. Uniquely versatile — it is equally compelling served chilled or gently warmed, making it one of the most food-friendly sakes in the glass.

Castello ColleMassari is the most important and largest estate of the Montecucco appellation — a 1,200-hectare property in the hills of southern Tuscany that includes 120 hectares of vineyards and nearly 90 hectares of olive groves, three of which are over 900 years old. The estate was acquired in 1999 by Claudio Tipa and his sister Maria Iris Bertarelli, who restored the ColleMassari castle — a 13th-century fortress that was originally the homestead of area nobility — and transformed it into one of Tuscany's most celebrated organic wine estates. The vineyards on the Montecucco hill are home to some of the oldest Sangiovese vines in the DOCG.

Rigoleto is ColleMassari's entry-level expression — a blend of organically grown Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and Montepulciano that captures the fresh, fruit-driven character of Montecucco with an easy, approachable style. Shimmering ruby red in the glass. The nose is fresh, vinous, and balsamic — tart blackberries, cherry, fresh thyme, menthol, and earthy topsoil.
