James Suckling 94 Points | Amazing concentration of clean red fruit and soil here, together with tangy wild herbs and something citrus. You can almost smell the volcano! Medium-to full-bodied with a dense core of fruit and quite challenging tannins for now. Give it a year to even out, but this is the muscular cousin of the Russo family. Try from 2023. 

Vinous 92+ Points | The 2019 Etna Rosso Feudo is dark and dusty in the glass, with an alluring blend of dried roses, crushed rocks and red plums. This is round and juicy, without a hard edge in sight, showing gorgeous ripe raspberry and cherry excited by a twang of sour citrus. It finishes lightly structured yet full of tension, leaving a cheek puckering sensation and the mouth watering for more. Give this zesty Etna Rosso some time to open aromatically in the glass.

97 Points Wine Spectator | This pure and stylish Barolo features rose, strawberry, cherry, mineral and underbrush aromas and flavors. Though silky in texture, this is well-structured, with integrated tannins and harmony. This is all about finesse and texture, with excellent length and a mineral aftertaste.

Kerin O'Keefe 91 Points |  A blend of 85% Carricante and 15% Catarratto planted on Etna’s northern slopes, this has aromas of Spanish broom, citrus and stone fruit. Linear, savory and full of energy, the palate features yellow apple, white peach, lemon zest and saline mineral alongside bright acidity.

We only grow indigenous grapes: Nerello Mascalese, Carricante and Catarratto with a great attention to sustainability. Cultivation of vineyards is certified organic, with careful selections and search for full maturity, limiting the yields in the vineyard to a minimum. The approach in the winery is rigorous, in search of precision and finesse.Vinification and aging take place in concrete tanks, in tini and large barrels produced with very long seasoned wood.

All the work is aimed at favoring the personality of the vines, keeping intact the differences and nuances between one vintage and the other, in the belief that only by satisfying and respecting the natural expression of a great territory can wines have the potential to truly evoke emotion.

Located in the southeast of Sicily in the province of Ragusa, Vito Catania of Gulfi Cantina is a leader of organic farming, in a very unforgiving region. Here, clay-limestone soils and 420 meters of elevation yield mind-bendingly tasty reds, made from Nero d'Avola and Frappato.

Producer Description 

The Fiano di Avellino takes its name from the variety that the Latins called Vitis Apiana. The grapes were so sweet that they proved irresistible to bees (“api”).
The wine, which was already highly appreciated in the Middle Ages, originated several millennia ago. An order for three “salme” (a measure) of Fiano is entered in the register of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II. Charles d’Anjou must have enjoyed the wine as well, since he had 16,000 Fiano vines planted in the royal vineyards.

Fresh and minerally, slightly smoky with notes of lemon peel and pear. Medium body, excellent fruit, long finish carries a note of grilled pineapple and dried fruits. Food Pairings: Perfect as an aperitif

Vinous 91 Points | Claudio Icardi's 2010 Barolo Parej is one of the more accessible wines of the vintage. Rose petal, spice, cinnamon, plum and game notes all flesh out in the glass in an inviting, textured Barolo with good length and plenty of personality. The tension and acidity of the vintage are tempered by the softness of the fruit, but they kick on the finish. This deceptively mid-weight 2010 Barolo could use another few years for the tannins to soften a touch. -- Antonio Galloni

Flavors of green apple, pear, and salted almonds jostle for position on the palate, as if in a race to the sensory nerve. Mineral-driven, the wine is all about structure, balance and elegance. This is a foundational Soave, go find it!

Vinous 97 Points | The 2020 Cepparello is a total stunner, just as it was last year. Deeply colored, layered and explosive in the glass, the 2020 possesses striking textural richness and overall intensity. Black cherry, graphite, plum, spice and lavender flesh out effortlessly. There's tremendous pedigree and sheer stature here. Cepparello is surely one of the wines of the year.

The Wine Advocate 96 Points | Supple and smooth, the 2020 Cepparello brings Sangiovese to soaring heights in a manner only Paolo De Marchi can manage. This is his second to last vintage before he would retire and sell this historic estate. The wine opens to medium to full-bodied concentration with dark plum and redcurrant. Those cede to sweet spice, earth, crushed stone, rusty nail and candied orange peel. Give the wine more time to flesh out with cellar age.

The Wine Spectator 96 Points | Expressive and sumptuous from the get-go, this red features cherry, strawberry, rose, orange peel, mineral and Tuscan herb aromas and flavors. Sangiovese. Best from 2025 through 2045.

Decanter 93 Points | One of Chianti Classico’s most illustrious properties, Isole e Olena was established in 1956. After more than 45 years at the helm, Paolo de Marchi sold the estate last year to luxury company EPI, which also acquired Biondi Santi in 2016. This 2020 takes some time to reveal its tempting fragrance. Wafting flint, cardamom and pepper make way for early spring blossoms and red berries. It has a graceful flow along with a sumptuousness and succulence of raspberry and red plum. Fine powdery tannins frame it. A juicy follow up to the excellent 2019.

The Wine Advocate 91 Points | The Isole e Olena 2020 Chianti Classico opens to a dark ruby color and medium concentration. The bouquet offers pretty fruit aromas with dried cherry and raspberry. Those bright primary tones segue to crushed stone and potting soil. This playful, entry-level wine ends with a bright spot of sweet cherry.

Wine Enthusiast TOP 100 SPIRITS 2022 94 Points |  Expect a burnished gold hue and an aroma mixing dried herb and floral notes: lavender and elderflower are part of the mix. The palate opens lightly bitter, with grapefruit peel and coriander leading into mellow golden raisin brushed with honey. A mild dried herb note emerges on the finish.

Smooth, refined, and flavorful, staying true to the fruity notes in the bouquet.

Serve at a temperature of 8 C (46 F) in a flute. It is ideal as an aperitif; very pleasant and easily digestible and goes well with meals.

Food friendly Barbera can cover a range of stylistic profiles, from cheap and cheerful to elegant dining, and when taken up several notches, such as the The 2022 Barbera d’Alba Superiore from La Ganghija,  it’s not only seriously good, it’s seriously delicious! Darkly colored with a lush, intense bouquet of crushed cherries, baking spices, vanilla and a touch of savory oak. Round and juicy in the mouth with a lovely intensity of flavor, harmonious balance and multilayered complexity that leads to a long and luscious finish. Firm, close-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide support and energy. It’s still brooding and needs time to fully develop. Drink 2029–2039. 

94 Points Jeb Dunnuck | A lovely mix of floral and herbaceous aromas lift from the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino, which displays a ruby color and offers notes of wild raspberry, herbes de Provence, wet stones, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it’s enticing on the palate, with crunchy fresh acidity, ripe tannins, and a long finish that closes with a quenching saline lift. This vintage offers such wonderful aromatics, and this wine is no exception, with a pure nature all throughout. Drink 2025-2035.

Winemaker Description

100% Sangiovese from hillside vineyards located at between 270-320 meters. The average age of the vines is 15 years old. La Gerla Rosso spends six monhts in tank, then one year in Slavonian oak (large casks of 50hl) and another six months in bottle before being released.

This wine is obtained from declassified Brunello, which nonetheless follows the strict production regulations, shows characteristics of freshness and typical aromas of quality young wines, fruity and vinous notes blend with more complex autumn leaves and violet.

Color  is straw yellow, with slight greenish hints. Offers a particularly fine mineral feeling and notes of fruit and white flowers. Mouthfeel is lively, balanced, with a fresh acidity, which increases its persistance and favours its drinkability.

Perfect pairing - Excellent as aperitif, paired with hors d’oeuvres and fish ragú or vegetable first courses. It is the perfect match also for seafood.

The vineyard's soil at La Raia is calcareous and clayey, it's approximately 400 metres above sea level with a south-east and south-west exposure. The vineyards surround the cellar, with an average density of 4500 plants per hectare. In accordance with the farm’s core philosophy and in line with the biodynamic principles, the vines are farmed without the use of any chemicals.

Vinous 88 Points | The 2022 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is a bold, juicy Barbera to drink now and over the next handful of years. Blackberry, chocolate, lavender, licorice and dried herbs are front and center. The 2022 is just a bit green, but it's hard to argue with quality at this price point

Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2022 displays signature elegance and freshness, despite the vintage’s solar character.
