Burhound 92-94 Points | An elegant, pure and ultra-fresh nose offers up notes of lilac, rose petal, white peach, tea and citrus zest. There is a markedly more refined mouthfeel to the utterly delicious and highly seductive medium weight flavors that are more precise, all wrapped in a citrusy, impressively persistent and youthfully austere finale. This is very classy and I particularly like the underlying tension and balance that should also permit this beauty to age effortlessly over the next 12 to 15 years. In a word, excellent.

Yaakov Berg who was initially trained a a lawyer succumbed to his father's passion and spent time in wineries in Australia and New Zealand. He created Psagot (means peak or summit in Hebrew) in 2003, sourcing the grapes from various locations in and around Psagot. At one point he discovered there was a little cave underground, Yaakov dug it out and it turned out this cave dated from the 2nd temple and was used for winemaking as they found an antique wine press there as well a period coins, one of which being reproduced on each bottle

Psagot's Chardonnay grapes are harvested from vineyards located in the northern Jerusalem Mountains at a height of 750 meters. The vineyards are build on terraces of soft limestone and the vines are planted directly into the limestone bedrock.

Chardonnay was one of the first three varieties planted by Dr. Frank, alongside Riesling and Pinot Noir, in 1958. What makes this wine especially compelling is the old block of Chardonnay from which it is sourced.

Thanks to Dr. Frank’s viticultural expertise and international connections, grape cuttings were sourced from across North America and Europe. Through a relationship in Quebec (and long before modern quarantine regulations), Dr. Frank personally the transported cuttings, leveraging his fluency in French to bring them across the border.

Today, it is widely believed that this vineyard block originates from Burgundy-derived clones, which were propagated in Dr. Frank’s nursery for decades, up until the mid-1990s. Throughout the Finger Lakes, stories still circulate of wineries proudly saying they planted a “Dr. Frank Chardonnay clone” - a testament to the lasting influence of his mark on the region.

For winemaker Sarah, Chardonnay represents both creative freedom and precision.
“It really is a winemaker’s playground. There are so many styles you can push Chardonnay into.” The approach for the 2024 Chardonnay is rooted in balance. Fresh, clean varietal aromatics - citrus, tree fruit, and riper stone fruit - form the foundation, while carefully selected oak adds complementary layers of spice, vanilla, toast, and subtle nuttiness.

Rather than overpowering the fruit, 62% French oak is used as a supporting vessel, enhancing texture and complexity through 9 months of barrel aging with thoughtful lees work.

Jasper Morris 90 Points | Pale with a lime streak. This is classically Montagny with the crushed shell note on the nose. Very intense overall, pure white fruit, just a light lemon rinse, stretching out nicely at the finish. Does just what it should. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Oct 2024.

Very spicy on the nose and also on the palate. Creamy vanilla bean flavors, round and silky in texture with lovely side acids and juicy fruit. a beautiful balance of tropical pineapple and citrus with lingering acidity.

Winemaker Description 

This vintage is the fruit of setting up my establishment. It embodies my doubts, my
fears, my mistakes, my great joy, my passion, my convictions.

This wine plot is located on a rocky outcrop, on the summit of the Palais Mount. Its name comes from the Latin word “barra”, copied from the Gallic “barro” which means
“elevation, summit, peak”. Chalky brown soils, clay-limestone subsoils. Located at 300 meters high, on a plateau.

There is a forest which occupies the ridge of the mountain which protects and shelters the vineyard from the wind. This cool environment helps to produce the floral and aromatic character plus the freshness of the wines.

Fresh white fruits aromas accompanied by floral touches and mineral notes. It leaves a fresh cool taste in mouth and blends together a tonic effect with smoothness. This tense and invigorating juice leaves a long-lasting intense sensation in the mouth. The end result is remarkable thanks to the aromatic, sapid and well-delineated finality.

Winemaker Description  | Blended exclusively from our single vineyard sites, Circle of Fifths captures the strengths of these vineyards in one wine – carefully crafted and fine-tuned over myriad blending sessions. These wines were getting lost in the regional expression, and with the Fifths, these sites come together to tell a new story. 

The 2024 vintage was a more classic Yarra season. A cool start to Spring and ideal flowering conditions led to good fruit set and moderate yields. December was cool and mild, with significant rainfall at New Years and during the first week of January, giving the vines a good drink leading into the heat of February. Mid to late February was drier and warmer than is common in the Yarra, leading to great ripening conditions with no disease pressure and quite a fast vintage. In 2024, all of our Pinot and Chardonnay was ready in quick succession, leading to a compressed harvest - with the whole valley picked in the space of 3 weeks (where it normally spreads across 6 weeks). An exciting ride for our team, but ultimately giving us wines with great flavour, bright acidity and balance.

Our Anderson Valley Chardonnay is made from a blend of grapes from sites that represent distinct terroir within the valley. The result is a fresh, vibrant and bright Chardonnay.

This wine offers up a nose filled with pleasing aromatics, led by fruity and floral notes of tangerine and gardenia. The clean, crisp entry is balanced and juicy, with flavors of white orchard fruit. Accents of caramel apple, lemon meringue, almonds and nutty oak precede a lingering finish that is marked by a hint of warm apple pie.

Hints of dried flowers, too, such as white roses and lilacs, as well as almonds. Medium-bodied with focus and subtle strength. Seemingly endless, with a bitter-lemon edge and nice reduction in the aftertaste of gun metal. Drink and enjoy.

Decanter 94 Points | Drouhin's Clos des Mouches 2023 exemplifies the vintage's potential for delicious whites. The wine has lush, forward aromas of Mirabelle plums and quince with hints of marzipan, butter and a suggestion of stylishly smoky reduction. The texture is supple and dense, but the richness is kept in balance and the extract carries the wine to a lingering finish. Parts of the 7ha vineyard have been replanted; the old vines that produce this bottling have delivered a wine of great character.

The Wine Advocate 93-94 Points | The 2023 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc (Domaine) is another strong performance, delivering aromas of sweet pear, peach and mandarin mingled with buttered toast and mint. An outstanding wine. Pale yellow color. Complex floral nose of white lilac and white rose. Once open, fruity aromas come to the fore, evolving towards grilled hazelnut and almond. When the wine is more mature, the nose is surprisingly strong and fifteen minutes of aeration produce wonderful notes of white truffle, citron (cedrat), honey and nutmeg, elegantly meshed together. Very lively on the palate. Its rich texture is in evidence, but also its structure and minerality. It is round, but never heavy. Harmonious fullness in the aftertaste. This wine allies remarkably the complexity and elegance of a Bâtard-Montrachet with the power of a Corton-Charlemagne.
