Audrey Frick writes: From the old Wente clone, the 2020 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard has a soft floral perfume of chamomile and takes on ripe aromas of yellow pear, golden fruits, and cantaloupe. Full-bodied, it has wonderful intensity on the palate, with notes of ripe apricot and fresh flowers as well as a great chalky texture and a savory finish. It’s a great wine in the lineup to drink over the next 10 or more years. - Jeb Dunnuck 96

Erin Brooks writes: The 2020 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard was harvested on August 17th before the wildfire smoke arrived, and with its pure, mineral-driven expression, it's worth cellaring for several years. The nose opens with iodine and nori tones that give way to pretty scents of panna cotta, spring honey and lilac. The medium-bodied palate is buzzing with shimmery acidity that enlivens its perfumed fruit, and it has a long, saline-driven finish. - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 96

MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Shows juicy apple and pear flavors that are crisp and sleek, with lemon meringue, ginger and tropical hints on an appealingly dense, fleshy frame. Delivering details of toasted herbs and minerality, this is harmonious and expressive on the long finish. Drink now. 359 cases made. - Wine Spectator 93

Aromas of Golden Delicious apple and honeysuckle are balanced by hints of nutmeg, saline and white pepper. Subtle herbal tones of lemon verbena lend to a “nervy” edge of this wine that cuts through the palate. Flavors of apricot and mango round out the brighter tones of lime and other bright citrus. The lean texture and a tension in the wine promises to reward those that are able to cellar.

Antonio Galloni writes:  The 2020 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard shows greater focus and tension than the Debut, along with the natural richness that is so characteristic of this site. Lemon confit, honeysuckle, white flowers and a kiss of French oak all grace this attractive Chardonnay from Hyde De Villaine. There's real depth and intensity here. - Vinous 93

James Suckling writes:  Lots of crushed stone, cement, lemon, matchstick, and flint. Full-bodied but so tight, with polished texture. Tangy and edgy with a brightness. 60% Wente and 40% Calera clones. Old vines from 1940 and 1970s. Drink or hold. - James Suckling 96

96 Points Wine Spectator:
A stunning, expressive white, with a savory, minerally edge that's distinctive and crisp, imparting elegance and restraint on the core of Honeycrisp apple, Meyer lemon and pureed mango flavors. Reveals hints of lemon thyme, nutmeg, toasted sesame seed and additional spices that linger on the fresh finish.
