From the acclaimed team behind Domaine Leflaive comes the exceptional Esprit Leflaive Saint-Romain Sous la Velle Blanc 2020, a beautifully refined Chardonnay that captures the elegance, purity, and mineral character of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune.
Established in 2018, Esprit Leflaive extends the domaine's celebrated winemaking philosophy beyond Puligny-Montrachet, selecting outstanding vineyard parcels throughout Burgundy. The Sous la Velle vineyard lies on a gentle, southeast-facing slope below the elevated village of Saint-Romain, west of Auxey-Duresses and near Meursault. Its limestone-rich marl and clay soils contribute freshness, structure, and distinctive minerality.
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, with just 15% new oak, followed by six months in stainless steel. This careful approach develops complexity and texture while preserving the wine's vibrant character.
Tasting Notes
The 2020 Saint-Romain Sous la Velle opens with inviting aromas of ripe pear, fresh lemon, white blossoms, and delicate brioche. The palate is beautifully balanced, offering a rounded, silky texture complemented by bright acidity and subtle mineral undertones. Notes of citrus and orchard fruit carry through to a precise, refreshing finish.
