Willamette Valley Chardonnay Blended Across Seven Distinct Soil Types

Rex Hill is one of Oregon’s most respected Willamette Valley estates, and the Seven Soils Chardonnay is a testament to the appellation’s remarkable diversity. A blend of Chardonnay from select Willamette Valley vineyards chosen for complexity — spanning seven distinct soil types — fermented and aged in small French oak barrels, this is a lighter-bodied, energetic Oregon Chardonnay with the tropical fruit character and creamy texture that make it a compelling alternative to heavier, more oak-driven styles.

Expert Review - Vintage 2021

• Wine Enthusiast — 91 pts: "The wine’s dominant tart pineapple aroma is tempered by bursts of brown sugar and chalkboard dust. The tropical theme continues on the palate, with tangerine, coconut and orange-cake flavors gliding along a creamy texture. A lighter-bodied Chardonnay with energetic acidity and a nice finish."

Winemaker Notes

Reyka Vodka | Iceland | 1.0 Liter | 80 Proof

Iceland is not a place that does things halfway. The same volcanic island that produces some of the world's purest water, filters everything through ancient lava rock, and powers its industry entirely on geothermal energy also happens to make one of the most distinctive vodkas on the market. Reyka is Iceland's first and only distillery, built by William Grant & Sons in the small fishing village of Borgarnes on the country's rugged west coast.

What sets Reyka apart is the convergence of exceptional natural resources and rare distilling equipment. The water used is extraordinarily low in minerals — among the purest on earth. Filtration happens through lava rock rather than charcoal, imparting a subtle, clean minerality. And the still itself is a Carter-Head — a Scottish-made design so rare it's the only one in the world used to produce vodka. The result is a small-batch spirit of exceptional purity: smooth, slightly creamy, with a clean finish and just enough character to remind you it came from somewhere real.

• Origin: Borgarnes, Iceland
• Base: Wheat & barley
• Still: Carter-Head (one of a kind for vodka)
• Filtration: Icelandic lava rock
• Proof: 80 (40% ABV)
• Size: 1.0 Liter

• Best For: Martinis, vodka tonics, Bloody Marys, or sipped neat over ice

Producer Description

Rhum Barbancourt 3 star is 86 Proof rum, Aged 4 years (VSOP) in Limousin oak cask.

Distilled in Haiti from pure sugar cane juice (no molasses) since 1862.
An elegant and fresh nose. Smooth and rich on the palate. Sharp spices cut through a soft, layered structure with pleasantly familiar heat.

Memo Summary Notes

Rhum Barbancourt 3 Star (4 Years Old) is a unique Haitian "rhum" that stands apart from typical Caribbean rums. While most rum is made from molasses, Barbancourt is distilled directly from fresh sugar cane juice and aged in French Limousin oak casks, using methods traditionally reserved for Cognac.

The "3 Star" is the youngest aged expression in their core lineup, offering a balance between the raw, grassy notes of the cane and the sweet, woody influence of the barrel.
Food Pairings: The dry, spicy finish makes it a great partner for spicy jerk chicken, grilled pork belly, or even a creamy Gouda or Brie cheese plate.

Riazul Plata Tequila is an unaged, pure expression of highland agave, offering a crisp and clean profile with vibrant agave flavors. Bottled straight after distillation, this tequila is perfect for mixing into fresh, bright cocktails or enjoying neat to savor its natural essence.

• Fresh aromas of roasted agave with hints of citrus and floral undertones.
• A smooth palate featuring sweet agave, lime zest, and subtle herbal notes.
• Clean and refreshing finish with a touch of pepper and earthiness.
• Tropical fruits, vanilla, hints of spice and oak
• Vanilla, caramel, cooked agave, bits of chocolate and pineapple
• Quick, dry finish with pops of chocolate

In the highlands of Jalisco, where the red clay soils and cooler temperatures of the Los Altos region produce some of Mexico’s most aromatic and expressive Blue Weber agave, Riazul has been quietly building a reputation for tequila of genuine refinement. The name — a nod to the azure color of the agave fields at sunrise — reflects the brand’s commitment to the raw material: 100% Blue Weber agave, grown to full maturity, harvested by hand, and treated with the care it deserves throughout production.

Introduced in 2009, the Reposado stands apart within its category by aging a full 9 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels — longer than most Reposados, and in a wood pairing that adds layers of complexity without masking the agave’s natural character. The result is a silky, medium-to-full-bodied spirit with a wonderful interplay of fruit, honey, and agave on the nose, and a palate that moves from peppery jalapeño spice through vanilla and white chocolate sweetness on a long, warming finish. A gold medal winner and a 91-point expression worth knowing.

91 points — Wine Enthusiast | “The enchanting aroma mixes fruit, honey and jalapeño pepper… tempered by vanilla and white-chocolate sweetness on the long finish… it still has finesse.”

Ridge Three Valleys Sonoma County Zinfandel Red Blend 2023

Ridge Vineyards is one of California’s most iconic and respected wineries — a benchmark producer whose Monte Bello Cabernet has competed with the world’s greatest wines, and whose commitment to traditional winemaking is unmatched. Three Valleys, made since 2001, is Ridge’s Sonoma County field blend: a multi-vineyard, multi-appellation wine sourced from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley, crafted in the exact same way as all of Ridge’s wines — open-top tanks, native fermentations, and real oak. It’s meant to represent a vintage more than a location, and the 2023 is one of the finest in recent memory.

The 2023 blend is 71% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% Mataro, and 2% Alicante Bouschet, aged 12 months in 19% new air-dried American oak. Floral, complex, and less rustic than usual — the vintage showing classic charm and elegance. A popular by-the-glass pour at restaurants across the country. Order it when you see it.

Aromas of confit cherries, licorice, blackberry, baking spices, wild berries, Italian plums, and lavender. The palate is full-bodied yet light on its feet — expressive raspberry and blueberry, licorice, pepper, and chargrilled herbs — with chalky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, spicy, generous finish.

Vinous, 97 Points; barrel sample: 95–97 — Tasted from tank just prior to bottling, the 2024 Geyserville is one of the very best Geyservilles I’ve ever tasted. It's weightless and elegant but supremely concentrated and packed to the gills with intense flavor. Rich blue fruit, incense, crushed rocks and deeply pitched spice tones march with gravitas from open to close. What a sensational edition of this wine. I can't wait to taste it from bottle.

Wine Spectator, 94 Points — Densely structured yet retains a sense of style and finesse, with deep flavors of black cherry and raspberry accented by dark chocolate, orange peel and dark Asian spices. Finishes with big but refined tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet.

Jeb Dunnuck, 91 Points — Zinfandel-dominant, the 2024 Geyserville leads with 71% Zin followed by 19% Carignane, 8% Petite Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouschet, spending 13 months in American oak. Sticky tannins wrap around full-bodied, concentrated layers of plummy black fruit, dried herb, and dusty tannins, textured but still young.

Wine & Spirits · 95 Points · 2021
When Geyserville hits in a great vintage, it takes me back to what I originally loved about California wine. Or to that sense of optimism on a spring day when I first visited San Francisco in 1984, to pitch this magazine on publishing services. I didn’t know at the time that I would still be publishing it 40 years later, and I didn’t know how much California wine would change. Or how little the style and intention of Geyserville would change. The team at Ridge manages the vineyard’s generations of vines to produce complex wines like this perfectly ripe 2021, with its dark, resinous scents of marijuana, its deep layers of rich fruit and the fruitiness of detailed tannins. The fresh, herbal complexity is pretty epic and the richness doesn’t stop. What I want from California.

Wine Enthusiast · 94 Points · Cellar Selection · 2021
Toasted oak and wood-smoke aromas lead to equally smoky, spicy flavors of black pepper, blackberry jam and maple in this full-bodied, muscular and firmly tannic wine. Great to pair with barbecue and hatchet throwing. The Zinfandel grapes were supplemented with 16% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah and 2% Alicante Bouschet. Best from 2025-2035.

Jeb Dunnuck · 93 Points · 2021
The 2021 Geyserville checks in as 76% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, and the rest Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. It has a pure, expressive bouquet of fresh plums, figs, mulberries, peppery herbs, leather, and vanilla bean, and it takes some air to show at its best, gaining depth and richness with time in the glass. This medium to full-bodied, spicy, elegant red blend has a touch more oak present than I'm accustomed to, but it has a silky, elegant mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age. Rating: 93+

Wine Spectator · 93 Points · 2021
Tightly focused and briary, this blend offers density without weight. Presents plum and blueberry flavors accented by dill and green peppercorn as this builds tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet.

Alois Lageder is one of Alto Adige’s most respected names — a producer with a long and principled commitment to organic and biodynamic farming at a time when such things were far from fashionable. Riff is their answer to a simple question: what does a thoughtfully farmed, honestly made Italian white wine taste like at an accessible price? The answer, vintage after vintage, is this.

The 2024 Pinot Grigio is sourced from certified organic vineyards in the Delle Venezie DOC — the broad, sun-drenched sweep of northeast Italy that stretches across Veneto, Friuli, and Trentino. The variety here is Pinot Grigio at its most expressive and least complicated: a grape that, in the right hands, delivers clarity, energy, and effortless drinkability without asking much in return.

In the glass: brilliant straw-yellow with a green-tinged rim. The nose is fresh and inviting — light stone fruit, white pear, and a clean varietal brightness. On the palate it is lively and precise, medium-bodied with a mouthwatering, bone-dry finish and just enough texture to hold its own at the table. Sealed with a screwcap for freshness.

Rihaku ‘Dreamy Clouds’ Nigori Tokubetsu Junmai Sake — Shimane, Japan | 720ml

Rihaku ‘Dreamy Clouds’ is one of the most technically accomplished Nigori sakes in the world — and one of the most quietly revolutionary. Brewed in Shimane Prefecture from Gohyakumangoku rice, this cloudy sake achieves something rare: a milling rate of 59% that technically qualifies it as Junmai Ginjo grade, making it one of the only Nigori sakes in existence to reach that quality threshold. Where most Nigori are sweet, heavy, and one-dimensional, Dreamy Clouds is bright, lean, and genuinely complex — a sake that invites Nigori lovers to discover an entirely new dimension of what cloudy sake can be.

The appearance is beautifully cloudy, with the characteristic milky white of unfiltered sake. The nose is nutty and inviting, with dark plum and a tangy, citrus-tinged lift. On the palate, it is bright and lean, with a satisfying chewiness as sweet rice flavors intermingle with nutty, slightly fruity characteristics and a clean, tangy finish. It is unlike any Nigori you have tasted before.

• Brewery: Rihaku Shuzo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan
• Style: Nigori (cloudy) Tokubetsu Junmai — 59% milling rate (Junmai Ginjo grade)
• Rice: Gohyakumangoku
• Size: 720ml
• Tasting Notes: Nutty, dark plum, sweet rice, tangy, citrus-tinged finish
• Best Served: Well chilled; shake gently before pouring to mix the sediment
• Best Paired With: Spicy noodle dishes, risotto, white fish, mild curries, creamy cheeses

A Junmai Ginjo-grade Nigori from Shimane — Rihaku ‘Dreamy Clouds’ is the benchmark for what cloudy sake can be.

Riondo | Prosecco DOC | Extra Dry | Veneto, Italy | 187ml Split

Prosecco in its most personal format — a single-serve 187ml split that delivers all the charm of the full bottle without the commitment. Riondo is one of the Veneto’s most reliable Prosecco producers, drawing on Glera grapes from the DOC zone to craft a wine that is effusively fruity, floral, and clean. Extra Dry in Prosecco terms means just a touch of residual sweetness — enough to round out the fruit and soften the bubbles, without tipping into sweet territory. Persistent effervescence, delicate floral notes, and a crystal-clean finish make this the ideal aperitif, celebration pour, or single-glass treat. Perfect for events, gifting, or stocking the fridge for a spontaneous moment worth marking.

• Appellation: Prosecco DOC, Veneto, Italy
• Varietal: Glera
• Style: Extra Dry (lightly off-dry)
• Format: 187ml Split (single serve)
• Method: Charmat (tank method)
• Best For: Aperitivo, events, gifting, single-serve entertaining

Critical Acclaim

Wine Advocate | 90 Points: Effusively fruity, light-bodied offering with terrific floral notes, persistent effervescence, and a clean, delicate finish. Crystal clean and pure — an ideal aperitif. An amazing Prosecco.

Pairing Suggestions

• Aperitivo: Prosciutto, melon, light bruschetta, or fresh fruit.
• Casual: Soft cheeses, smoked salmon blinis, or a simple spritz base.
• Celebration: A festive single-serve pour for toasts, events, or gifting.

Winemaker Description

A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with remarkable floral, cherry and raspberry aromas. In the mouth, bright fruit flavors with a wonderful texture and extraordinary acidity. Smooth and balanced with a long, silky and velvety finish.

Expert Review

92 Points Wine Spectator | A medium-bodied red with aromas of wild raspberries, porcini, dried herbs and smoked meat. Powdery, fine tannins with a chalky feel. Concentrated and taut with a savory, mineral finish. Drink or hold. (2019)

Expert Reviews — Vintage 2020

James Suckling 97 Points | An elegant and stylish wine with fresh violets, roses, wild strawberries, earthy minerals and hints of Sichuan pepper and licorice on the nose. Full-bodied, firm, tense and fresh with a dusty texture, yet tight and well packed. Austere finish.

Wine Spectator 95 Points | A high-toned aroma of rose petal meets earth and savory underbrush notes in this multifaceted red. Flavors of strawberry and cherry hold the middle ground, while bracing acidity and sinewy tannins lend support. Long and elegant, with a lasting aftertaste of ripe cherry.

Winemaker Notes

Pajé is a small 1.83-hectare (4.52-acre) strip of land facing southwest, particularly rich in calcareous marl with a high content of active limestone. The amphitheater of Pajé opens onto the Tanaro river valley, which mitigates cold winters and hot summers, creating a unique microclimate. The vines range from 25 to 50 years of age (averaging over 40), and all new plantings are propagated using the massale selection method — clippings pruned exclusively from the Pajé vineyard itself.

About Roagna

The Roagna Barbaresco Pajé 2020 is a legendary release from one of the most artisanal and traditionalist producers in the Langhe. Luca Roagna is known for "monastic" patience, often aging his wines for five years or more before they leave the cellar.

The 2020 vintage is characterized by a "velvet glove" elegance — more approachable in its youth than the structured 2019s, showing silkier tannins while maintaining the estate's signature power and depth.

Tasting & Pairings

Expect classic Nebbiolo aromatics — dried rose, tar, red cherry, and earthy spice — wrapped in silky, fine-grained tannins with remarkable length. This is a wine built for contemplation but generous enough to enjoy now with proper decanting.

• Braised short ribs or osso buco — the tannin structure and acidity cut through rich, slow-cooked meats.
• Truffle risotto or tajarin pasta — a classic Piedmontese pairing that lets the wine shine.
• Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano or Castelmagno — hard, nutty cheeses complement Nebbiolo’s complexity.

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2019

Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media - 97 Points "The 2019 Barolo Pira is powerful and deep but also very closed. There's so much energy here but readers will have to be patient as this classically austere young Barolo clearly needs time. Hints of pine menthol licorice and dried herbs appear with some reluctance. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. Superb."

Bruce Sanderson - Wine Spectator - 96 Points "A distinctive white pepper aroma leads off followed by flavors of strawberry sour cherry mint menthol and iron. Despite the lightness and ethereal quality the texture reveals viscosity and intensity. Balanced and complex ending with terrific length. Best from 2027 through 2045."

Roagna’s Langhe Bianco offers a white-wine perspective on a family estate rooted in Barbaresco and Castiglione Falletto. This 2025 bottling comes from a producer whose traditional approach has been passed down through generations, with Luca Roagna leading the estate today.

Producer & Terroir

The family’s history reaches back to Vincenzo Roagna in the early twentieth century. Its Piedmont holdings include vineyards in Barbaresco and the Pira estate in Castiglione Falletto, purchased in 1989. The supplied Bianco note describes fruit from Rocche di Castiglione at Cascina Pira and Barbaresco.

Winemaker Description

Supplied Roagna Cuvée Note · Vintage Unconfirmed
10% Nebbiolo vinified as white, 90% Chardonnay. 60% of the grapes come from Rocche di Castiglione (Cascina Pira) and the rest are grown in Barbaresco. This crystalline white is as hard to come by as Luca’s more famous single vineyard Barolos and Barbarescos and we are happy to have a small allotment.

The supplied note does not identify a vintage; its blend and sourcing percentages are retained as cuvée information, not independently confirmed specifications for 2025.

Serving & Pairing

Serve chilled in a white-wine glass. Suggested pairings include simply prepared fish, roast chicken, or vegetable risotto, allowing the wine to take the lead without heavy seasoning.

Critical Acclaim — Vintage 2023

Wine Spectator — 94 Points
"Jammy and generous, with bold aromatics, this red is a pleasure to drink, offering polished cherry and blackberry tart flavors accented by briar patch and licorice as this zips along the lively finish. Drink now through 2034."

Wine Enthusiast — 93 Points (Elaine Chukan Brown)
"A Napa classic, the Black Chicken Zinfandel relies on vineyards in cooler parts of the region, here harvested from a cooler vintage as well. The combination delivers complexity, detail and plenty of flavor: juicy mixed berries and plum, citrus peel, incense and savory length complete with refreshing verve and well balanced structure."

Jeb Dunnuck — 90 Points
"Offering brambly red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with peppery herbs, sandalwood, and savory, flowery incense, the 2023 Zinfandel Black Chicken is medium-bodied, nicely balanced, has ripe tannins, and a good finish."

Winemaker Description

The 2023 Black Chicken is the 25th-anniversary release of this iconic Napa Valley wine — and one of the most celebrated vintages in the wine’s history. A remarkably cool and balanced growing season produced a wine of exceptional complexity, detail, and structure.

Showing the influence of the breezy and fog-laced Oak Knoll District, the wine offers rich, plush fruit, delicate acidity, and a structure defined by well-ripened, fine-grained tannins. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, dried herbs, and sandalwood on the nose. Expansive on the palate with notes of blackberry, orange peel, plum, and baking spices, all driven to a long finish by balanced acidity.

The Black Chicken Story

It all started in the 1940s when 14-year-old Aldo Biale helped his mother make ends meet by selling to insider Napans — along with eggs and produce — some of the family’s homemade Zinfandel. Over the old “party line” phone system, the code words “a Black Chicken” signified a jug of bootleg wine, keeping nosy neighbors and the authorities from finding out about Aldo’s underground Zinfandel operation. Legally produced since 1999, Black Chicken Zinfandel pays homage to the industrious patriarch of the Biale family and the prominence of Zinfandel in the history of Napa Valley.

The heart of Black Chicken is sourced from vineyards in the Oak Knoll District — among them the same family vineyard Aldo, Nonna, Bob, and the Biale family have farmed since the 1930s. Black Chicken stands as the quintessential expression of Zinfandel from the Napa Valley.

2023 Vintage Notes

The 2023 season was one of the coolest vintages in more than a decade. Several years of drought were erased in a single season as rains began just after the 2022 harvest and continued through spring 2023. Ample groundwater and cool temperatures delayed budbreak until April, with flowering in mid-May. Moderate temperatures through spring and summer allowed for balanced maturation — picking at the perfect intersection of flavor, sugar, acid, and tannin maturity. Harvesting began with earlier sites in September, with moderate heat in early October accelerating picking through the end of the month.

Food Pairings

Grilled ribeye, BBQ brisket, lamb chops, wild boar, aged cheddar, and hearty pasta with meat sauce. A quintessential Napa Zinfandel built for bold, flavorful food.

Experience the Elegance of Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Description

At Robert Craig Winery we have always celebrated wines that invite wine lovers into high levels of quality without punitive prices. Such is the case with our “L Fleur” Cabernet Sauvignon that is a blend of young vine lots from our Napa Valley Estate vineyards on Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder along with spectacular fruit from a singular property owned by friends in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley. Just as “Flor de Pingus” and La Fleur Petrus are indicative o second tier offerings, so it goes with our La Fleur Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2023 Robert Craig Winery La Fleur Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits deep, saturated color along with spicy, black fruit up front and a sturdy backbone of mineral and tannin. A significant amount of time in new French Oak barrels have rounded out the edges of this young Cabernet and given it a suppleness and integration that can’t be found with less expensive American oak or the dreaded barrel stave flavor treatment.

Memo Summary Notes

The 2023 Robert Craig "La Fleur Craig" Cabernet Sauvignon is a distinct, multi-appellation blend designed to offer Robert Craig’s signature mountain-grown quality at a more accessible price point.

The name "La Fleur" is a nod to famous "second wines" from Bordeaux (like La Fleur-Pétrus or Flor de Pingus), signaling that while this isn't the primary estate bottling, it shares the same pedigree and winemaking team.

Our La Fleur Cabernet is supple enough to enjoy immediately though it has the structure to benefit from additional cellaring.

VINEYARD

• 43% Napa Valley, predominantly Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder young vine lots from our three estate vineyards with a little Rutherford in the mix.

• 57% Sonoma County, Dr Creek Valley

VINTAGE

• After a cold wet winter, 2023 developed slowly through a cool, extended season with harvest occurring very late in the year.

• Harvest ran late September to the end of October

• The rain held off until November allowing the high quality bunches
to be harvested.
