Winemaker Description 

Aromas of citrus, toasted hazelnut and white flowers. Very expressive, displaying lemon confit and wet rocks while a touch of hazelnut adds charm. A full palate balanced by crisp acidity, bright, detailed and nuanced, this wine has a lot going on aromatically, while the minerally stone fruits on the palate are racy with a long finish.

Jeb Dunnuck writes:  Juicy citrus, tart pineapple, and mint herb notes, as well as some classic background mineral and salty nuances, emerge from the 2022 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills, a medium-bodied Chardonnay that's nicely balanced, has bright yet integrated acidity, and outstanding length. The appellation release comes 90% from La Rinconada and 10% from Sanford & Benedict, saw malolactic in barrel (as do all of these Chardonnays from Sanford), and 11 months in 25% new French oak. Nanfrè is Tenuta Sant'Antonio's young Valpolicella wine. It incorporates no dried grapes and uses no oak. The winery's recent decision to stop producing the Nanfrè as s Valpolicella Superiore allows them to maintain lower alcohol levels, more vibrant fruit and lively freshness. Nanfrè is the name of a hamlet in the commune of Illasi, the name of a vineyard and also the nickname of the previous owner of that vineyard (short for Gianfranco).

Santa Julia Natural La Vaquita Clarete is a pale red color with pink reflections. The aromas are fresh and fruity with a soft hint of floral notes. Fresh acidity on the palate - juicy and bold.

With a mellow yet complex flavor, this rum offers tobacco and leather notes, toasted and smoky. The rounded rum offers a balance that can only be achieved through the Solera method. James Suckling 90 Points | A wine of two parts, offering a nose of restraint before a judiciously endowed, nicely weighted palate of savoriness and ample freshness. Far from a blockbuster, yet mitigating this to an extent with a chord of freshness, cherry spice, sap and a well-aligned corset of tannins. Drink or hold.

James Suckling 98 Points | Plenty of red currant, cedar, iron and terra cotta aromas follow through to a medium to full body with graphite, sandalwood, red currants and fresh Mediterranean herbs such as thyme and rosemary. The tannins are chewy but polished in texture. This is a Sassicaia that needs three or four years of bottle age to come together and soften. A structured wine for the cellar.

Decanter 97 Points | The wine is tightly coiled and concentrated. It feels almost cinched at the waist, with a fascinating tension between the weight of raspberry, blackberry and strawberry coulis fruit and the wine's verticality, as if it's trying to burst out. Lovely mid-palate sapidity is allied to fresh acidity and fine but dense tannins, making for a dark horse of a Sassicaia that isn't giving much away today but will greatly reward those who can cellar it for 12 years and more. ‘What is sure is that 2022 will need a lot of time, but will also have a long life,’ said Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta. A hot vintage, 2022 caused the team to work in the newly completed refrigerated warehouses in San Guido, even moving the sorting table inside. Shorter macerations and 23 rather than the more typical 24 or 25 months of ageing in wood helped to maximise the freshness.

JebDunnuck.com by Audrey Frick 97+ Points | The 2022 Sassicaia is a deeper, youthful magenta/red color with a slightly deeper aromatic profile of rosemary, gravelly earth, sage, mossy earth, and fresh black cherries. The palate has slightly broader shoulders but remains elegant. It has more plushness on the mid-palate, while its acidity shines through with the finish. It will need several years to shed its baby fat and show its full potential.

The Wine Advocate 97 Points by Monica Larner | The Tenuta San Guido 2022 Bolgheri Sassicaia reveals a beautiful fruit profile with fresh blackberry, tart cherry and Mediterranean tones of blue rosemary blooms and lavender sachet.

Vinous 94 Points by Antonio Galloni 94 Points | Dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice, graphite and incense give the 2022 striking aromatic presence to match its rather brooding personality. There’s a bit of tension in the tannins that needs time to resolve.

Wine Enthusiast 85-89 Points | Pale flax hue is perfectly free of suspended particles. The peculiar opening bouquet is astonishingly nutty; the middle stage nosing passes expand on the nut theme by adding soft traces of peanut putter and steamed asparagus. An atypical tequila perfume, but pleasant. Palate entry is meek, but by midpalate moderately sweet flavors of candied nuts and nougat make for an enjoyable experience. The aftertaste is medium-long, nutty, nougat-like and charming. A bargain Tequila for everyday enjoyment.

Salt River Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of five different vineyard sites located around Stellenbosch. The anchor of the wine is the now a 35year-old bush vine vineyard grown on the slopes of Bottelary. The other components are trellised and bush vine vineyards, with various different aspects, planted in granitic soil. These vineyards have combined exceptionally well in creating the saline mineral style of Sauvignonn.

The Wine Advocate 93 Points | A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, the Savage Wines 2023 Savage White is the only wine in the portfolio that sees a little bit (10%) of new oak. The intent is to offer a textural interpretation of these two grapes. The wine shows natural freshness, white flowers, wood spice and a hint of reduction. The 2023 vintage was cooler, like 2017, making for a classical growing season. This wine has a long saline finish with orchard fruit and pear with a mid-weight approach. The wine is left on the lees for as long as possible to augment that impression of salinity and to create longevity.

Floral aromas of red roses and pansies alongside fruity notes of cherries, plums, and woodland berries such as blackberries, currants and raspberries. Well balanced, tangy and fresh on the palate. Intense with a good body despite its young lightness.

100% Gaglioppo, a medium-sized, thick-skinned grape indigenous to Southern Italy and best known for the production of Ciro DOC.

Aromas of red fruits and spice complement undertones of cranberries, wild berries, and plums. Lightly dry, moderate tannins make this a perfect food wine.

Pair with parmesan, herb crumbed lamb cutlets.

Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points | Winemaker Jeffrey Jinda uses a solera-like system of fractional blending to make the NV Brut Excellence, typically adding 12 percent of reserve wine to his non-vintage blends, this one a combination of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. A portion of the reserve wine is used again in the dosage after disgorgement. Given 24 months on the lees, it shows an impressive depth of texture and balanced richness, with lovely notes of creme caramel and brioche.

The Tasting Panel 93 Points | A remarkable value with the poise and presence of wines twice the price. Composed of 60% Char-donnay and 40% Pinot Noir, it rings clear and pure on a nose marked by toast, Asian pear, yellow apple, honeysuckle, and hazelnut; on the palate, lilting, lip-smacking acidity and a creamy tang usher in more orchard fruit enhanced by hints of white fig and apricot.

Decanter 92 Points | A blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir from Mendocino County with 10 g/L of residual sugar, aged a minimum of two years en tirage and six months under cork. 14,000 bottles were produced. Riveting aromatics of brioche, creme brule, and candied citrus. Broad and mouth-filling with a creamy mousse that, upon resolve, delivers a crisp wine with depth and textures of crushed river stones, layered with red berry fruit, apricots and tangerine notes, and nutty overtones on the finish. 

James Suckling 92 Points | A solid core of fruit with apple, strawberry and hints of iron and salt on both the nose and palate. Full yet not too much with a lively mouthfeel and fine tannins. Tensioned and plenty of flavor. Mostly 2018 vintage. 2 1/2 years on the lees. 8g/L dosage. A blend of 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir.

Winemaker Description

Scharffenberger Brut Excellence is made by the traditional méthode champenoise process – whereby the wines are individually bottle-fermented before being riddled and disgorged. The wine is approximately two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay and undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation. Scharffenberger Brut is made from its own 120-acre vineyards in the Anderson Valley. In addition, Scharffenberger Cellars has long-term contracts with select vineyards in the greater Mendocino County. This type of vineyard selection allows us to choose from the best vineyards in the area which enables us to produce their trademark cuvée.

The wine is two-thirds Pinot Noir which produces a red fruit (cherry and plum) forward nose combined with one-third Chardonnay which adds the tropical expression of litchi nut and mango. The 100% malolactic fermentation adds a vanilla cream character producing a round and full-bodied wine. After approximately two years on the yeast lees, there are notes of freshly baked bread and pastry that enhances the more fruit-forward style of the wine. Finally, after several months on the cork the wine develops caramel and hazel complexors.

The Wine Enthusiast 95 Points | It is the 57th bottling of these bubbles. I hope you pick up a bottle to enjoy. This wine is bright, with aromas of Golden Delicious apple, orange blossom, acacia honey and mineral on the nose. Flavors on the palate are baked Bosc pear, mandarin orange, fresh walnut, toasted brioche and kaffir lime. The wine offers a subtle, creamy mousse, with a long, lifted and dry finish.

Winemaker Description 

Blanc de Blancs (white from whites), made from Chardonnay, is the counterpart to the Blanc de Noirs (white from blacks), made from Pinot Noir. Blanc de Blancs was the first wine Schramsberg produced in 1965 and was America's first commercially produced Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine. Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs gained international recognition in 1972 when then President Nixon served the wine at the historic "Toast to Peace" in Beijing, China.

The Schramsberg style of Blanc de Blancs is dry and crisp. Small lots of barrel fermented wines, some of which complete malolactic fermentation, are added to stainless-steel fermented wines to create added complexity in the blended base wine. After undergoing a second fermentation in bottle, the wine then ages on its yeast lees for about two years prior to disgorgement. With its vibrant, fruitful and focused nature, this sparkling wine will maintain its freshness, structure and refined finish for many years, even decades following its initial release.
