Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc Private Bin Marlborough 2023 750ml
Critic Notes
James Suckling writes: Lots of passion fruit, guava and grapefruit on the nose. Bright, tropical and balanced, with medium body and a juicy, fruity finish. Sustainable. Drink now. Screw cap. - James Suckling 90
Tamlyn Currin writes: For a wine that is presumably made in vast quantities and in the most technical way possibly, this is surprisingly good. Full of bodacious tropical fruit. Mangoes and oranges with a little bit of grapefruit and sweet fennel. The balance of fruit and acidity is great, and it certainly tastes and feels more full-bodied than 12.5%. It's generous, friendly and appealing. I really can't fault it! - Jancis Robinson 16
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: A vibrant version, showing a mix of pineapple, mango and passion fruit flavors that is direct and mouthwatering, with touches of ginger and green tea on the finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator
Erin Larkin writes: The 2023 Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc is a behemoth in the export market, and it delivers a pretty archetypal “Marlborough Sauvy” experience—crunchy, herbal, green, tropical and juicy. All good things in this context. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Roger Jones, Freddy Bulmer, Cat Lomax write: Delicate mineral notes with a mixture of passionfruit and meadow grass aromas. Citrus fruit, butterscotch, stone fruit, white peaches and nectarine. - Decanter
Winemaker Notes
This is the Sauvignon Blanc that put Villa Maria on the world map. A blend of both Marlborough’s Wairau and Awatere Valleys our winemakers take great care to ensure this wine showcases exceptional balance and consistency every vintage. The room-filling aromatics and strikingly crisp character of our Private Bin Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc are why it is so popular and such a memorable experience.
A perfect aperitif wine, serve chilled on warm summer days. Fresh herbal flavors match well with most salads, whereas the riper tropical flavors match well with any fish recipes.

Expert Reviews
Rebecca Gibb Writes: The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough makes me think of a refreshing cocktail, with its gooseberry and elderflower notes meeting mint and passionfruit in this crisp, dry style. It's an excellent, juicy thirst quencher for slugging with friends, chilled on a warm summer's day. It's not going to change your life or give you any intellectual pleasure, but that's not its purpose. - Vinous
Roger Jones, Freddy Bulmer, Cat Lomax write: Herbal, white fruit and citrus nose. Sweet passionfruit, green citrus, passionfruit, green apple, guava and yoghurt notes.
La Crema Chardonnay Monterey 2023 750ml
Winemaker’s notes
La Crema Monterey Chardonnay offers aromas of grilled pineapple, citrus blossom, tangerine, and papaya. On the palate, white peach, key lime, and honeydew melon are complimented by a touch of barrel spice, and a river stone minerality.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand 2023 750ml
Winemaker Notes
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc put New Zealand on the map with its captivating flavor. Their signature style is famous for its vibrant nose, mouthwatering palate and long finish. Stone fruit and citrus stand out, while minerality (think rain on river stones) provides balance
Critic Notes
Rebecca Gibb MW writes: It must be difficult being Cloudy Bay, because fame brings extra scrutiny and the question, ‘Does this brand offer value for money in the context of the wider region?’ In 2023, the Sauvignon Blanc silences its critics. Its vineyard may be much larger than it once was, but it delivers – dry, clean and elegant, with classic characteristics and the bonus of welcome structure on the finish. It may not be the most flamboyant on the nose, focusing more on the herbal rather than tropical spectrum (whether that's elderflower, gooseberry or classic passion fruit), but that seems to be a function of the vintage. The 2023 is long, fragrant and exactly what you want from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but with an extra layer of class. - Vinous 93
James Suckling writes: Shows typical guava, grass and flint aromas with some green melon. Medium-bodied with a solid density of fruit as well as brightness and acid energy. Really well done for this vintage. Drink or hold. Screw cap. - James Suckling 93
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Leaps out of the glass with effusiveness, featuring flavors of apple blossom, Key lime, Honeycrisp, lemon thyme and fresh grated ginger. Notes of passionfruit, pineapple and lemon candy linger on the long, expressive and mouthwatering finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator 93

The palate is concentrated and pronounced with loads of poached apple and pear flavors; hints of nutmeg and lemon curd carry this wine to it conclusion. - Decanter
Audrey Frick writes: A bright yellow color, the 2022 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is highly aromatic and forward with notes of beeswax, yellow flowers and poached apples. Full-bodied and round, it has a sunny, decadent feel, with modest acidity, and will be best enjoyed over the near term. Jeb Dunnuck
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Shows rich and round flavors of apricot, peach and cream pastry, with notes of sour lemon candy and toasted, salted almond, plus a touch of grilled pineapple on the finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator

The 2022 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is bright, forward, balanced and approachable. Enticing aromas of red apple, spice, nectarine, and baked bread lead into a broad textured, and creamy palate. Handwerk Gruner Veltliner Kamptal Organic 2022 1.0L
Anne Krebiehl MW of Vinous writes 92 Points: The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Handwerk was harvested in Kremstal sites, from gneiss and conglomerate soils with a smaller proportion of loess and loam. The nose is a full hit of yeasty earthiness, pepper and super-savory miso paste, with hints of fern and sage. Peppery verve is alive on the palate, despite being bedded in this richness on a nonetheless slender body with a lovely phenolic web. (Bone-dry).
A Gruner that tastes just like Gruner should - citrus, white pepper, light and crisp. Perfect sipper, or pair with sushi, Thai, chicken, salads. Dry, not sweet. Winemaker Description. Rand Sieger - Lead Sommelier 67 Wine.

Superbly structured and elegantly balanced, with fresh-snipped greens and citrus characteristics that blend effortlessly with notes of tropical fruit. Each glass boasts the long, clean finish of classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. With its bright character and crisp finish, Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes. A chilled glass of Whitehaven is particularly refreshing alongside fresh seafood, spicy Asian dishes, grilled chicken or summer salads. Winemaker Desription.

James Suckling 93 Points | Aromas of dried orange peel, lemon grass and hay. Medium-bodied with lovely complexity. Herbs and dried citrus meld together, with a hint of white tea adding intrigue. Well composed. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Mike Grgich, who turned 100 in April 2023, emigrated from Croatia to California in 1958 and worked his way up as a winemaker until, in 1973, he produced the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that triumphed in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting. His own winery, then Grgich Hills Cellar, was founded as a partnership in 1977. Grown near San Pablo Bay, the estate Chardonnay is fermented and aged in barrels and foudres, 40% of which are new French oak. Ronan Sayburn MS: Gunflint reductive nose with green cardamom, cucumber skin, oyster shell and seaweed. Smoky subtle oak. Lean, tight and mineral. Eugenio Egorov: Hints of citrus and caramel with a touch of vanilla on the nose. Creamy and vibrant with beautiful citrus and balanced acidity. Ben Gubbins: Struck match, toast and lime aromas. The palate is firm and citrussy, holding tight through a citrus and pineapple finish. Drinking 2023 - 2030.
Robert Parker 92 Points | A non-malolactic wine—made in the spirit of the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that impressed at the Paris tasting in 1976—Grgich's 2020 Estate Grown Chardonnay features gentle toasty notes, a hint of roasted hazelnut, plus bright pineapple and citrus fruit. It's medium-bodied, zesty and refreshing, with a long, clean finish. Drinking 2022 - 2026.
Jeb Dunnuck | The 2020 Chardonnay is enjoyable, with attractive melon and stone fruits as well as a medium-bodied, easygoing style on the palate.
Jancis Robinson | Subtle aromas of mixed stone fruits pick up a bit of rich spice on the palate as well as notes of lemongrass carried through a long finish. It is not as refined as the Miljenko’s Selection though it retains an overall sense of restraint and a lot of length.
This 2020 Grgich Hills Estate Chardonnay entices you with aromas of fresh peach, citrus, and honeysuckle followed by bright fresh acidity and a beautiful chiseled minerality leading to a finish that is layered with undertones of passion fruit, white peach and a hint of Madagascar vanilla. Winemaker Description.
Domaine Joseph Mellot Sincerite Sauvignon Blanc 2022 750ml WHITE
Winemaker Description
The grapes for this wine are sourced from the main four appellations, including Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, which are known for their racy, mineral-driven style. The nose is fresh and vibrant with notes of lime zest, ruby grapefruit, green pear and mandarin oranges.
There is an undercurrent of wet stones throughout. True to its terroir, it is refreshing with moderate acidity but it also has some weight in the mid-palate due to being aged on its fine lees.
Pale gold in color, clear and limpid. A typical Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc nose, grassy and herbal combining with floral and citrus notes. Crisp and clean in the mouth with notes of orange, passion fruit and lots of herbal flavors.
Inama Soave Classico Superiore Veneto 2023 750ml
Critic Notes
Ned Goodwin MW writes: Glazed quince, marzipan and fecund stone fruits careen along a mid-weighted palate, towed by typically saline acidity and a furl of smokiness. A warm year. And it shows. A blend of all plots that are not designated for the Foscarino. Volcanic soils only. Partly sourced fruit. All Garganega. Screw cap. Drink or hold. - James Suckling 90
Eric Guido writes: The 2022 Soave Classico Vin Soave entices with a whiff of crushed stone and chalk dust, giving way to crisp green apples. This blends ripe orchard fruits with stimulating mineral tones and fresh acidity. Silky and refined yet saline in character, this finishes remarkably fresh, with a lively tension that calls the taster back to the glass. - Vinous
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough Orgnaic 2023 750ml
Bart Hopkins of 67Wine.com | Dog Point Vineyard is the largest certified organic wine estate in New Zealand. This Sauvignon Blanc is bright and delicious, with fresh lively flavors in a refreshing, easy sipping style. In the glass, key lime, granny smith apple, kiwi and white peach flavors grace the palate playfully with perfectly balanced acidity offering lift and a pleasant zip to the finish. Crisp and very pleasant, perfect for seafood and salads.
Rebecca Gibb MW writes: Initially the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc needs a few moments to get itself together – much like we all do after waking up from our slumber. It wears a rather reductive overcoat, but under that flintiness you find concentrated, pure fruit flavors. It’s light in body but dense in concentration thanks to low yields, displaying both focus and punch. It's almost silvery in color and restrained thanks to hand-picking, leading to pure grapefruit and passion fruit flavors alongside a hint of nectarine. The finish is long, precise and sinewy. Drinking 2024 - 2028. - Vinous 93
James Suckling writes: Clean and crisp with grapefruit, green melon and lemon character. Hints of stones. Medium body. Lovely acidity and a delicious finish. Some phenolic tension here. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap. - James Suckling 92
Jancis Robinson writes: From the tricky, cloudy, cyclone-affected vintage 2023 when I was in New Zealand. Sourced from eight of their own vineyards with the Wairau Valley. Smoky, green-veg nose. Just a little less exuberantly fruity than some other vintages. The wine finishes a little more suddenly than I would have expected but it's a creditable effort in a challenging year.
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Lush and expressive, with plenty of concentration to the mix of mango, lemon curd and litsea oil flavors. Details of dried pineapple, candied ginger and crystalized orange zest add complexity and aromatics on the long finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator 94
Winemaker Notes
Pale straw. Pure and bright perfume with aromatics of grapefruit and white peach. Subtle smoke and gravelly tones layered over this create a complexity beyond the immediate fruit profile. Juicy, plush, white fleshed fruit pour across the palate with a refreshing and defined acidity balancing the sunny fruit profile, finishing clean and dry. Drinks beautifully now or can comfortably be cellared for five years or more.

Audrey Frick writes: The bright yellow 2022 Chardonnay Sonoma County is forward and ripe in the glass with aromas of ripe melon, tangerine, and sweet oak spices. Bottled under screwcap. - Jeb Dunnuck

Hugel Gentil Alsace ORGANIC 2022 750ml
James Suckling | All at once, this is ripe, generous, cool and fragrant. A wide range of aromas, from lemon zest to honeysuckle. The joyful fruit and freshness make this juicy dry white so easy to enjoy, but the balance is also spot-on. Clearly the best vintage ever of this wine. (2020).
A kaleidoscope of grapiness, produced exclusively from hand harvested grapes in predominantly clay and limestone vineyards, from a dozen of the most favored localities in and around Riquewihr. Gentil Hugel allies the suave, spicy flavor of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of both Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner. Winemaker Description.
Feudo Montoni Sicilia Grillo della Timpa 2022 750ml
Eric Guido writes: The 2022 Grillo Timpa lifts from the glass with a minty freshness, blending sweet green melon with candied lime suggestions. It's soft and enveloping, with brisk acidity ushering in citrus-tinged orchard fruits and saline minerals that add a crunchy sensation. The 2022 finishes perfumed and wickedly fresh. The mouth is left watering as barely-ripe kiwi hints fade. - Vinous 90
Monica Larner writes: The organic Feudo Montoni 2021 Sicilia Grillo Timpa has a pretty bouquet that is woven tight with summer peach, pear and honey. This Grillo offers a slightly waxy or oily texture with subtle mineral tones and fresh acidity. - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 90
Clive Pursehouse writes: Timpa, meaning steep slope, and the vines are located on 60% slopes, with sandy soils mixed with stone grown organically near Agrigento in central Sicily. Aromas of almond skin, white flowers, and citrus peel lead to notes of savoury herb and stony minerality. The palate is classically Grillo—bright notes of grapefruit, wet slate, a dash of herbs and a zest acid-driven finish. - Decanter 90
Alison Napjus writes: A zesty white, with vibrant acidity buoying an exuberant range of tangerine, kiwi fruit, pink grapefruit granita and lime blossom notes. Sleek and well-knit, with spice and mineral accents on the finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator 90

Expert Reviews
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Fresh and precise, with lime, mango and passion fruit notes that are accented by crunchy sea salt, litsea oil, dried chamomile and fresh lemon zest on a mouthwatering, fleshy frame. - : Family-owned winery Craggy Range has an excellent reputation, and its entry-level Sauvignon Blanc shows a lovely purity and balance. The Martinborough region, at the southern tip of New Zealand's North Island, is a minor player size wise compared to the juggernaut that is Marlborough, but its wines are often more restrained in style. This elegant expression shows a lovely purity of gooseberry, blackcurrant leaf and lime fruit, with added weight from partial, short ageing in French oak. - Decanter 90
Rebecca Gibb MW writes: The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Te Muna Road probably won't be one for the history books. Modest in concentration and a little fleeting after what was a difficult season, it’s nonetheless attractive, clean and restrained. The 2023 is a less fragrant expression, with modest intensity of apple and pineapple, peach and citrus. Enjoy its dry, acid-driven tension in youth. - Vinous

91 Points Wine Enthusiast | Well-balanced and rather light on its feet, this elegant but full-bodied wine complements lemon and lime notes with richer vanilla and butter nuances on a smooth and slightly tangy texture.
With a medium golden color and alluring layers of persimmon, ripe Meyer lemon and rich brioche this is an elegant and alluring wine. Lush, textural and beautifully complex on the palate, its bright citrus flavors and cool-climate energy showcase the poise and purity of great Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Winemaker Description.

Lucien Crochet Sancerre 2023 750ml
Our Professional Review
Bart Hopkins of 67Wine.com | A bright, energetic Sancerre that drinks beautifully. Excellent aromatic purity and precision with a lovely melange of cries and white orchard fruits that mingle with perfectly balanced mineral notes and refreshing acidity. Well rounded and long on the finish. Perfect with all types of seafood, salads and vegetarian fare.
Expert Review
Rebecca Gibb MW of Vinous writes | The 2023 Sancerre is filled with elderflower, lime and green aromas. It is a medium-bodied style that's tender and supple from three types of chalky soil in the appellation. The clay-chalk portion of the soil brings volume and body, while the chalkiest soils provide some gentle tension. A spritz hint brings much-needed tension in this gentle acidity year. This is a step up from most 2023s in this high-yielding year. Drinking 2024 to 2028.
Cambria Chardonnay Katherine's Vineyard Santa Maria Valley 2021 750ml
This fleshy medium bodied wine offers plentiful flavors of tropical fruit, baking spice, and zest, with an underlying subtle oak influence. Cambria Chardonnay Katherine's Vineyard is harmoniously balanced with ample acidity and a buttery, creamy mouth coating finish.
- Debra, California Chardonnay Buyer
Antonio Galloni writes: The 2021 Chardonnay Katherine's Vineyard Signature Collection is bright and super-focused. Citrus peel, mint, white flowers and tangerine peel all grace this exquisite, intense wine. The 2021 was fermented in tank and aged in barrel, of which 50% new. The Katherine's Vineyard comes from own-rooted vines planted in the 1970s. Readers should plan on giving this a bit of time, as it is quite nervous today. - Vinous 95
Jeb Dunnuck writes: Beautiful orchard fruits, toasted bread, and some sappy flower notes all emerge from the 2021 Chardonnay Katherine's Vineyard, a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, elegant wine that has nicely integrated acidity as well as a supple, up-front, delicious style. - Jeb Dunnuck 91
Alder Yarrow writes: Smells of lemon curd and butterscotch. Flavours of lemon curd and white flowers have a nice mineral undertone and lemon-pith chalkiness. Excellent acidity with just a whiff of vanilla in the finish. - Jancis Robinson 16.5
MaryAnn Worobiec writes: Remarkably balanced, with details of fresh, crisp apple, citrus and pear that mingle with salted butter pastry and touches of brown sugar on a supple, creamy frame. Reveals a touch of lemongrass on the finish. Drink now. - Wine Spectator 90

Quinta de Soalheiro Minho Alvarinho 2023 750ml
Debra of 67Wine.com | This still Vinho Verde white has ripe tropical fruits on the nose and on the palate. It shows great freshness, with generous depth, mouth coating texture, lively acidity, minerality saline and an energetic finish. Pair with shellfish, white fish, poultry, salads and cheeses.
92 Points Wine Advocate | The Soalheiro Alvarinho is one of the top Alvarinho's in Portugal and is widely regarded as a benchmark for the region.
Soalheiro Alvarinho has a bright, lemon-yellow colour. This wine is distinguished by its fresh and elegant fragrance, revealing the aromatic complexity of Alvarinho variety.
The flavour has intense tropical and mineral notes that balance perfectly with the acidity and moderate alcohol content.
The so-called unoaked "classic," as it is colloquially known, is dry (2.5 grams of residual sugar and seven grams of total acidity) and comes in at 12.7% alcohol. As much as I liked the Granit this report, this is the winner to me in this price range. Firmer and more concentrated on the finish, it seems to evoke the essence of Alvarinho, while always showing off fine acidity.
At a rather nice price (even though it has ticked up a bit), at least compared to upper-level Vinhos Verdes these days, this is still a bargain. It's a solid wine that combines elegance, persistence and aging ability. It has enough stuffing to pair with food, but this is so fresh and pure, I mostly love to drink it on its own. Sit on the porch and knock this back on a sultry summer evening.
Chateau Lamothe de Haux Bordeaux Blanc 2023 750ml
