Winemaker Jessica Tomei was inspired to create Cupcake Vineyards’ Lighthearted collection after struggling to find delicious tasting wines that support her active lifestyle. These wines are crafted with grapes grown in sunny California vineyards, perfectly structured to create well-balanced and medium-bodied wines. The grapes are harvested early in the growing season to minimize brix levels, which allow for a lower sugar, lower alcohol product after blending. The quality of these grapes makes for wines with only 80 calories, 8% ABV, and less than one gram of sugar per serving, while maintaining the classic Sauvignon Blanc profile you love.

Winemaker Description 

The Elvi Encina White (Blanco) is bright and transparent in color. Pleasant nose, citrus fruits, stone fruits, spring fragrances. In the mouth: airy and fresh, delicately perfumed, from which we appreciate the roundness and the elegant crunchiness. Everything is in its place. Delicious with any fish.

This wine’s tart, spiky glints of passion fruit tease the nose amidst all its lemony freshness. With a little air, the passion fruit note grows smoother and fuller. The palate glows in this fruitiness and complements it with creamy richness. It’s lovely and seductive now but sure to get even better.

Salt River Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of five different vineyard sites located around Stellenbosch. The anchor of the wine is the now a 35year-old bush vine vineyard grown on the slopes of Bottelary. The other components are trellised and bush vine vineyards, with various different aspects, planted in granitic soil. These vineyards have combined exceptionally well in creating the saline mineral style of Sauvignonn.

Very pale yellow Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc aromas of lifted citrus, tropical fruit, and crushed herbs. A fresh, juicy wine with vibrant acidity and plenty of weight and length on the palate. Ripe, tropical fruit flavor with passion fruit, melon, and grapefruit.

The Wine Spectator 92 Points | Juicy and expressive, with a mix of Key lime, ripe melon and pineapple notes at the core, plus details of lemon verbena, sweetgrass and lemon balm that add aromatics and complexity. The body is smooth, and the finish is long.

Vinous 90 Points | The medium-bodied 2024 Sauvignon Blanc is precise, pure and refreshing. Tropical notes of kiwi, pineapple, lemon oil and white pepper make for an attractive dry white.

Lychee, honey dew melon, lime, and chamomile notes jump out of the glass and fill the air. The flavors continue to the palate with lemon joining the lime in an intense and juicy way. The wine is lively and fresh on the palate, with both a lightness and weight to the mouthfeel. Its brilliant acidity and mouthwateringly long finish are signatures of this wine and an absolute delight to sip.

It is a blend of fruit grown in sunny Napa and cooler sites in Sonoma, resulting in a wine that is distinctive and delightful.

Producer Description 

Our 2023 Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of grapefruit, lime zest, white flowers, white peach, lemon grass, and orange peel. On the palate are aromas of pineapple, guava, tropical fruit, Asian pear, candied lemon, and green melon. The wine has a bright acidity and wonderful texture on the mid-palate.

 While the core of this wine is Sauvignon Blanc, the Musqué, Sémillon, and Viognier add a lot of floral notes and viscosity to this vintage. We captured these wonderful floral notes by fermenting each variety separately in concrete eggs, stainless steel drums, and tanks.

The French oak barrels, in which 10% of the wine aged in, were very lightly toasted to preserve the delicate fruity aromas and provide a creamy texture to the mid-palate of the wine.

2023 marks our eighth vintage of sauvignon blanc and our sourcing has remained the same for all eight vintages. We work closely with our two growers, one in Carneros and the other just east of Yountville. How sauvignon blanc is grown has a major impact on what flavors we get, so we spend time during the growing season ensuring we are exposing the clusters to the right amount of sum, too little sum and you get the green bell pepper flavors, too much gives you flavors of guava. Too much canopy drives grassy flavors we want to avoid.

Winemaker Description 

An attractive greenish-yellow colour. Its ageing in foudres has lent it citrus and green chilli pepper aromas, as well as saline notes. In the mouth, it is very structured and tense thanks to its high acidity and minerality. The finish is clean and persistent, with a subtle saline note coming through. This highly complex Sauvignon Blanc tempts you to enjoy it with food.

Block 22 is located on the first terrace of the river Huasco. It has very old, stony soils from the river which have very special qualities: a little clay and a lot of calcareous soil – lime, calcium carbonate – white soils. Characterized by low yields of grapes with very concentrated fresh fruit. In the Atacama Desert in the Huasco valley, the temperatures were fresh, especially at night. Temperatures are kept low because of the constant cool morning breezes blowing in from the Pacific Ocean, as well as the classic “Camanchaca”, a dense fog which comes in from the ocean, helping to regulate the temperatures and ensure an optimum level of humidity in the atmosphere.

Our 2022 Red Mountain Sauvignon Blanc an ideal example of a perfectly balanced Red Mountain white wine—rich and full on the midpalate, bright tropical fruit flavors balanced with crisp mouthwatering acidity. The vineyard sourcing blends a newer, but well known, extremely warm growing site in Quintessence with the more established and slightly cooler Artz and Klipsun vineyard plantings from the early 1980’s. The result and complex and delicious expression of Sauvignon Blanc. On the aroma we get pineapple, lemon pith, and wet rocks. The palate is full yet crisp and refreshing — passionfruit, mango, and white peach.

Earthy whites have always been of interest to Guy – Aged on lees, made in alternative vessels, with body and texture. Our White of Earth is made of Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in cool microclimates of the upper Galilee and spontaneously fermented in clay amphora.

White of Earth is bright energetic wine, aromatic with a mouth filling texture. Aromas of exotic fruit, grapefruit, and citrus blossom lift from the glass.A mineral, energetic, full dimension white.

Vineyard

Elkosh Vineyard in the Western Galilee has a sunken vineyard that acts as a cold sink. It provides a great location for growing great whites, with prolonged ripening for extra character and complexity.

Production

The grapes (Sauvignon Blanc) were hand-picked at the end of summer and gently pressed into clay Amphora, where the juice was allowed to ferment spontaneously. The shape of the vessel allowed the yeast to circulate building mouth feel into the wine. The wine was further aged in the terracotta urns for a further six month and was bottled late in the spring.

This wine displays a pale straw colour with brilliant green edge. On the nose the wine
opens with crisp green apple and lime blossom. This evolves to incorporate a complex
melange of lemongrass, petrichor and subtle blackcurrant leaf. The palate is bright
and refreshing with a focussed tension that suggests longevity and a characteristic
oyster shell salinity.

Harvested by hand at night from a little vineyard in the Russian River comes this delightfully fruity yet complex wine. The mouth is full of rich subtropical passion fruit and melon. We achieve this fullness by leaving the juice on lees for an extended period of time building the flavor.

The flavors on the palate are youthful and robust, with White grapefruit, bitter rind, thyme, and sedimentary rock throughout the mouthfeel.
