Il Lussurioso Buglioni Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2019

In 1993, Alfredo Buglioni purchased a hillside villa in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, drawn by the beauty of the land and the quality of its vines. Trading grapes with local producers in exchange for winemaking knowledge, the Buglioni family spent years learning the craft before releasing their first vintage in 2000. Today, the estate spans 153 certified organic acres, guided by enologist Diego Bertoni and a commitment to expressing the unique terroir of Valpolicella Classico with both tradition and a modern sensibility.

"Il Lussurioso" — Italian for "the luxurious one" — takes its name from the wine's long, lingering finish. Crafted from 100% estate fruit sourced from Vigneto San Pietro in Sant'Ambrogio, situated at approximately 495 feet elevation on dark, clayey soils rich in gravel, the grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and dried through the traditional appassimento process until January. The result is a wine of extraordinary concentration, complexity, and depth. Certified organic.

The 2019 vintage followed a mild winter and a cool, healthy growing season with moderate temperatures through summer, allowing the vines to ripen slowly and evenly. Grapes were manually harvested in selected bunches around mid-September at peak maturity.

Domaine de Villargeau is a family estate with a story rooted in determination and a deep respect for the land. In 1991, brothers Fernand and Jean-François Thibault cleared hillsides in the Coteaux du Giennois that had lain abandoned since the phylloxera crisis, planting vines on south-southwest-facing slopes that enjoy exceptional sun exposure. The next generation followed: Marc returned to the estate in 2000 armed with formal training in viticulture and oenology, and Yves joined shortly after, bringing with him a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. That commitment culminated in 2019 when the domaine launched its full conversion to organic agriculture — a milestone that reflects the family’s long-term vision for the land.

The Coteaux du Giennois is a small, often overlooked Loire appellation situated just north of Sancerre, sharing the same chalky, flint-rich soils that give the region’s Sauvignon Blancs their signature mineral precision. Domaine Ostertag is one of Alsace's most visionary estates. Founded in the 1960s and transformed by André Ostertag after his Burgundy training, the domaine pioneered biodynamic viticulture and terroir-driven winemaking in the region. Today, André's son Arthur helms the estate with the same restless curiosity — low yields, slow and gentle pressing, long élevages, and wines built to "create thirst, not quench it." The 2023 Les Jardins is a particularly compelling expression: all of the Le Berceau fruit (not produced as a separate cuvée in 2023) was folded in, along with additions from Clos Matis on granite, giving this wine unusual depth and complexity for an entry-level Riesling. A distinctive, terroir-driven rosé Champagne from Pascal Doquet, one of the Côte des Blancs’ leading organic grower-producers. Anthocyanes is crafted from equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all harvested in 2018, combining the mineral precision of the Côte des Blancs with the structure and expressive red-fruit character of Pinot Noir.

The Pinot Noir comes from La Barre, a named vineyard site in Vertus. It is macerated on the skins for approximately 48 hours before pressing, extracting its vivid color and aromatic intensity through the traditional saignée method. The wine is then matured in barrel for up to one year before being blended with Chardonnay from Vertus and bottled for its secondary fermentation.

The name Anthocyanes refers to anthocyanins, the natural pigments found in grape skins that give the Champagne its striking rosé color. Despite its depth of color and character, this is not a heavy or overtly vinous rosé. It retains the freshness, finesse and mineral energy associated with Pascal Doquet’s Champagnes.
