Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley 2024 — Carneros, Napa Valley

Cakebread Cellars is one of Napa Valley’s most storied estates, founded in 1973 with a single Chardonnay — and that first wine set the template for everything that followed.

For over 50 years, Cakebread has been refining its Napa Valley Chardonnay, sourcing exclusively from the Carneros appellation in southern Napa Valley.

Situated just north of San Pablo Bay, Carneros is defined by cool, windswept conditions, Haire Loam clay soils, and the kind of natural tension between fruit richness and acidity that produces benchmark California Chardonnay.

The 2024 vintage benefited from consecutive winters of abundant rainfall that refreshed soil profiles and supported vigorous vine growth, followed by Carneros’ hallmark warm days and cool nights through spring and summer — ideal conditions for steady ripening and acid retention. The result is a wine of exceptional balance and aromatic complexity.

The 2024 opens with aromas of yellow delicious apple, lemon curd, white peach, vanilla bean, jasmine, and crème brûlée. On the palate, layers of fresh citrus, poached pear, and melon unfold, accented by hints of vanilla biscotti. The finish is long and refined, carrying both creamy and mineral textures in perfect harmony. James Suckling praised it for its “nicely balanced” profile with “bright acidity and a zesty, vibrant finish.”

Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2023 — Paso Robles, California

Daou Vineyards is one of Paso Robles’ most ambitious estates, founded by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou on a dramatic hilltop site in the Adelaida District — one of the appellation’s coolest, most limestone-rich growing areas. Since their first vintage, Daou has pursued a singular vision: to produce Cabernet Sauvignon that rivals Napa Valley at a fraction of the price. The 2023 vintage continues that mission with a wine of genuine complexity and cellar-worthy structure.

The 2023 opens with heady aromas of black plum, Zante currant, frankincense, and sage, followed by trailing scents of blackberry, cardamom, and espresso bean with accents of vanilla, saddle leather, and cinnamon toast. On the palate, fine-grained tannins provide structure for rich flavors of black cherry, raspberry, and mulberry, with secondary layers of black olive, sandalwood, and dark chocolate. The finish is velvety and long, with lingering impressions of chocolate-covered cherry, dried herbs, and toasty oak. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 91 points, noting “clean lines of cherry, toasted wood, red flower and a pinch of thyme.”

Bogle Vineyards California Chardonnay — California 2023

Bogle Vineyards has been farming the Sacramento River Delta since 1968 — one of California's most enduring family wine estates, now in its third generation. Their California Chardonnay is a perennial overachiever: sourced from select California vineyards, crafted with careful oak integration, and built to deliver genuine complexity at an everyday price. The 2023 vintage reflects the distinct influence of a cooler growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop nuanced, layered flavors that punch well above their weight class.

The nose is captivating: freshly baked brioche, yellow plum, bruléed orange slices, and notes of elderflower honey lead into vibrant aromas of bright citrus, freshly plucked apple, and delicate white jasmine. On the palate, stone fruit notes are met with rich undertones of vanilla and clove, harmonized with warm spice and a touch of oak-derived toastiness. Sugared lemon rind, baked pear, and Pink Lady apple carry through to a balanced, mineral-dry finish with higher toasty notes lingering gracefully.

Diatom Chardonnay — Santa Barbara County 2024

Greg Brewer's Diatom project is built on a single, radical idea: subtraction. No oak barrels. No malolactic fermentation. No extended aging. Just 100% Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County, fermented and aged six months in stainless steel, stripped of everything that typically softens, butters, or blurs the grape. What remains is electric — a wine that tastes like the soil and the sea. The name itself is a clue: diatomaceous earth, the plankton fossil-rich geology beneath Santa Barbara's vineyards, is the terroir this wine is designed to express. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 94 points and called it "a no-brainer purchase." Wine Spectator followed at 93, James Suckling at 93, Wine Enthusiast at 92, and Wine Advocate at 90. Across the board, the verdict is the same: this is one of California's most precise and honest Chardonnays.

The nose is vivid and pure: exotic citrus, minty herbs, oyster shell, honeydew rind, lime candy, and a whisper of sea spray. On the palate, it is sleek and taut — ripe pear, ginger, pomelo, and brisk lime zest coiled around a mouthwatering thread of acidity. Salinity and minerals run through the finish alongside springtime blossoms and a lingering kick of melon pith. It gains weight and richness with time in the glass without ever losing its electric freshness.

Jeb Dunnuck 94 • Wine Spectator 93 • James Suckling 93 • Wine Enthusiast 92 • Wine Advocate 90 — "A no-brainer purchase for those who love Santa Barbara County Chardonnay."

• Producer: Diatom (Greg Brewer), Santa Barbara County, California

Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 9 — California

Bonanza is the passion project of Chuck Wagner — the legendary winemaker behind Caymus Vineyards, one of Napa Valley’s most iconic estates. Lot 9 is sourced from premium California vineyards across the state, blended with the same meticulous attention to quality that has defined Caymus for decades. Buehler Vineyards Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2022

A family-owned estate established in 1978, Buehler Vineyards has quietly built one of California’s most respected reputations for quality and value — wines that consistently overdeliver at their price points, vintage after vintage. Their Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a standout expression of cool-climate winemaking from one of Sonoma’s most celebrated appellations, where the influence of the Pacific Ocean and morning fog creates ideal conditions for Chardonnay of genuine elegance and complexity.

Crafted from two exceptional vineyard sources — Wood Vineyard on River Road and River Vineyard on East Side Road — the blend brings together the floral, mineral, and lime character of River Vineyard with the lush peach and apricot richness of Wood Vineyard. Bogle Vineyards · Clarksburg · California · 2023

There is something quietly extraordinary about a vine that has been growing in the same spot for sixty, seventy, eighty years. It has survived drought and frost, boom years and lean ones, and in doing so has learned to give less — and mean more. The nose leads with cranberry, raspberry, and ripe red cherry, then deepens into marionberry pie and warm baking spices — cinnamon, clove, a hint of vanilla. On the palate it’s generous and round, with the kind of fruit-forward richness that Zinfandel does best, balanced by enough structure to carry it through a long, satisfying finish.

Winemaker Description

Ménage à Trois Red Blend brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top you’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouthfeel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Forward, silky, and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats and chicken.

About Ménage à Trois

Ménage à Trois is produced by Folie à Deux Winery in California’s Napa Valley. The brand was born from a simple but inspired idea: that the best wines are often the result of unexpected partnerships. By blending Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon — three varieties rarely combined — winemaker Glen Salva created a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts. Rich, approachable, and unapologetically fun, Ménage à Trois has become one of California’s most beloved red blends, consistently delivering crowd-pleasing fruit and silky texture at an everyday price.

Food Pairings

Grilled burgers, BBQ ribs, roasted chicken, pizza, pasta with meat sauce, mild cheddar, and charcuterie. A crowd-pleasing red that works at any table, any night of the week.

CrossBarn by Paul Hobbs Sonoma Coast Chardonnay — Sonoma County 2024

CrossBarn is Paul Hobbs’s second label — and one of California’s most compelling values in cool-climate Chardonnay. Drawing on 81% estate fruit from Sonoma Coast vineyards, CrossBarn channels the same winemaking philosophy that has made Paul Hobbs one of Napa and Sonoma’s most celebrated names: minimal intervention, site transparency, and a relentless focus on freshness. The Sonoma Coast appellation is defined by its proximity to the Pacific — cold ocean winds and morning fog that slow ripening and preserve the natural acidity that makes this style so compelling. Partial malolactic conversion in stainless steel adds a subtle creamy texture without sacrificing the wine’s essential brightness and drive. The 2024 vintage is a textbook expression of the appellation.

The color is a luminous pale gold. The nose is fresh, pure, and immediately inviting: green apple, baked apple, ripe pear, lemon peel, and a whisper of bread dough and warm spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and easygoing — generous and juicy, with vibrant acidity, a subtle creamy mid-palate from partial malo, and a long, mineral-driven finish. Crisp, refreshing, and built for the table.

Paul Hobbs’s vision for Sonoma Coast Chardonnay — CrossBarn delivers serious winemaking at an honest price.

In 1968, Miljenko “Mike” Grgich went to work for Robert Mondavi as chief enologist, crafting the inaugural release of “Fumé Blanc” — an elegant, dry, oak-aged style of Sauvignon Blanc that Mondavi named after the French word for smoke. A decade later, Mike's 1973 Chardonnay famously won the Judgment of Paris, putting California wine on the world map. He went on to found Grgich Hills Estate in 1977, where he continued to champion the Fumé Blanc style as a tribute to his mentor and friend.

The Grgich Hills Fumé Blanc Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2023 Organic 750ml is sourced from the estate's five certified organic Napa Valley vineyards and opens with striking aromas of fresh lime, lemon verbena, gooseberry, and honeysuckle. On the palate, bright citrus, tangy star fruit, and a hint of green mango are framed by deft oak and a long, chiseled finish of lasting slate minerality. Vibrant, precise, and unmistakably Grgich.

Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc — Russian River Valley 2024

Merry Edwards is one of Sonoma County's most celebrated producers, and their Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc has been a benchmark bottling since its debut in 2001. The 2024 vintage is a lush, aromatic expression fermented in French oak barrels with twice-weekly lees stirring — a meticulous protocol that builds the characteristic creamy texture and rich body the wine is known for. Sourced from a specific blend of Shenandoah (Clone 1) and Sauvignon Musqué clones, the wine brims with tropical and floral character with a bright citrus core.

The nose is fragrant and inviting: white pineapple, passionfruit, mango, guava, and plumeria with hints of lemon curd and lime zest. On the palate, apricot, peach, and slate give way to ruby red grapefruit, honeysuckle, and ripe melon, with a silky, rounded texture and a burst of crisp, refreshing acidity on the finish. Silver Oak built its reputation on a single, deliberate choice: age Cabernet Sauvignon in American oak, not French, and do it at a winery with its own cooperage. That decision — made in 1972 and never abandoned — is what gives Silver Oak its signature: wines that are immediately approachable, generous with fruit, and possessed of a smooth, polished texture that makes them as enjoyable now as they are over a decade in the cellar.

The 2022 Alexander Valley is blended before barrel aging — another Silver Oak hallmark, allowing the components to integrate on the basis of terroir and varietal character before oak influence shapes the final wine. The blend is anchored by 95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, aged 24 months in American oak barrels from their own cooperage, The Oak.

The 2022 vintage shows Silver Oak at its most expressive: plum, anise, black cherry, and sweet spice on the nose, with a mid-palate that is juicy and structured without being heavy. Fine-grained tannins and lively acidity carry a flavorful mix of red and black fruit through a long, clean finish. Fresh and drinkable now, with the structure to age elegantly through 2035 and beyond.

Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Buttery Chardonnay — 1.5L Magnum

Woodbridge is Robert Mondavi’s everyday California label — built on the same philosophy as the flagship, just scaled for the table rather than the cellar. The Buttery Chardonnay is exactly what it promises: rich, creamy, and unapologetically California in style. Fermented in stainless steel with a portion aged on oak, it delivers the full-bodied, smooth mouthfeel that made this style a perennial crowd-pleaser — without the weight of a heavily oaked wine.

Toasty vanilla and warm brown spice on the nose give way to Golden Delicious apple and ripe tropical fruit on the palate, finishing long and smooth. The 1.5L magnum format — equivalent to two standard bottles — makes it the natural choice for dinner parties, gatherings, or anyone who simply doesn’t want to open a second bottle.

Tasting Notes

Toasty vanilla and brown spice on the nose. Golden Delicious apple and tropical fruit on the palate with a full, creamy mouthfeel and a long, smooth finish.

Food Pairings

• Grilled salmon, shrimp scampi, or buttery lobster
• Fettuccine carbonara, creamy mushroom pasta, or chicken alfredo
• Roast chicken, soft cheeses, or a relaxed dinner with friends

Perched on rugged coastal ridges just miles from the Pacific Ocean, Flowers has built its reputation on wines of exceptional tension, purity, and precision. Flowers Vineyards Pinot Noir — Sonoma Coast, California 2023

Flowers Vineyards is one of California's most iconic coastal Pinot Noir estates, perched on the extreme Sonoma Coast where the Pacific Ocean's influence is felt in every bottle. Founded in 1991 by Walt and Joan Flowers, the estate farms some of the most dramatic and remote vineyard sites in California — high-elevation, wind-swept ridges above the fog line where the long, cool growing season produces Pinot Noir of extraordinary tension, complexity, and coastal character. Now part of the Huneeus Vintners family alongside Quintessa and Benton Lane, Flowers continues to set the benchmark for California coastal Pinot Noir. The 2023 vintage, shaped by a long, cool growing season, is one of the most compelling in recent memory.

The nose is captivating and complex: gravel dust, pine tar, and smashed blue fruits with whispers of violet florality, coastal evergreens, and wildflowers. On the palate, a core of red and blue brambles with a nearly feral, savoury character — dried herbs, black tea, warm spices (anise, cardamom, allspice), and earthy sandalwood — all threaded through by an intense saline throughline that crescendos at the finish with a bright squeeze of orange peel. Tangy, fresh, and beautifully balanced.

Decanter 93 Points — "There is an oomph and intensity to the 2023 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from Flowers. Aromas of gravel dust, pine tar and smashed blue fruits come to the fore with whispers of violet florality. There's an intense saline throughline that crescendos at the finish."

Hahn Estates SLH Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2023 750ml

Hahn Estates is one of Monterey’s most respected producers, and the SLH bottling is their flagship Pinot Noir — estate-grown in the Santa Lucia Highlands, one of California’s most celebrated cool-climate AVAs. The SLH sits at 1,200–2,200 feet elevation in the mountains above Monterey Bay, where the famous “wind-gap” effect funnels cold Pacific air and morning fog through the valleys each afternoon. The result is a long, slow growing season that builds extraordinary flavor complexity while preserving the bright acidity that makes great Pinot Noir possible.

The 2023 SLH is a standout — generous, deep, and deeply Californian, with a richness of fruit that is beautifully balanced by savory complexity and silky tannins. A clear step up from the standard California tier and a wine that punches well above its price.

DELOACH PINOT NOIR CALIFORNIA 2024 | 750ML

An expressive, fruit-forward California Pinot Noir from a long-time pioneer in sustainable winemaking. The nose opens with ripe cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and subtle baking spice. Seghesio Family Vineyards is one of California's most storied Zinfandel producers, with roots in Sonoma County stretching back to 1895 when Edoardo Seghesio planted his first vines in the Alexander Valley. Over more than 125 years, the family has become synonymous with old-vine Zinfandel of exceptional character — wines that honor the grape's Italian heritage while expressing the full power and personality of Sonoma County's diverse terroir. The estate farms sustainably, with a deep commitment to the land and the community that has shaped the Seghesio name for generations.

The Sonoma County Zinfandel is sourced from a blend of estate and grower vineyards across Sonoma County, drawing on the region's varied soils and microclimates to build complexity and depth. The wine is produced under certified sustainable farming practices, reflecting Seghesio's long-standing commitment to responsible viticulture.

Vinification follows Seghesio's classic approach: careful fermentation to extract the full depth of the Zinfandel fruit while preserving the variety's characteristic spice and briar character. The wine is aged in oak to develop structure and complexity before blending and bottling.

Handpicked and whole-cluster pressed, the juice is barrel-fermented and aged 8 months sur lie in neutral François Frères barrels, then blended the following summer.
