Sattlerhof Sauvignon Blanc Organic Austria 2021 750ml

Sattlerhof is one of Südsteiermark’s most dedicated family estates — rooted in Gamlitz, at the southern tip of Styria where the warm Adriatic climate from the south collides with the cool continental air from the Alps to create one of Austria’s most dramatic wine-growing environments. Some 120,000 vines thrust their roots deep into the meagre crystalline quartz and coral-reef subsoils of the Kranachberg slope, farmed organically and biodynamically with painstaking hand-labor: soft pruning, manual shoot removal, leaf thinning, and hand-harvesting. The result is wines of rare precision, mineral intensity, and a deep sense of place.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Spätfüllung (late bottling) is aged on the lees until February 2023, giving it exceptional depth and texture for the appellation. Certified organic and biodynamic, it is a serious, precise, and stimulating Sauvignon — flinty and mineral on the nose, lush and grippy on the palate, with a long, saline finish that rewards contemplation. Aged on the lees until February 2023, the 2021 Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc Spätfüllung is clear and intense on the pure and mineral/flinty and even iodine-scented nose. Lush and intense on the palate, this is a serious, very precise, fresh and elegant, stimulating, saline and grippy Sauvignon with intense and juicy fruit. It’s still young but very promising.

Fine grapefruit, nectarine and pineapple aromas with just a touch of yellow paprika. Medium-bodied with a striking balance of good ripeness and ample tannins that will need a bit of time to fully integrate. Quite a firm and dry finish, although the acidity is moderate for this grape.

An expressive, grassy white powered by a zesty mineral energy that invigorates green apple and white peach flavors. Medium length, with green herbs, smoke and crushed flint echoing through the finish. Bone-dry, with nice concentration.

Salt River Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of five different vineyard sites located around Stellenbosch. The anchor of the wine is the now a 35year-old bush vine vineyard grown on the slopes of Bottelary. The other components are trellised and bush vine vineyards, with various different aspects, planted in granitic soil. These vineyards have combined exceptionally well in creating the saline mineral style of Sauvignonn.

The Wine Advocate 93 Points | A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, the Savage Wines 2023 Savage White is the only wine in the portfolio that sees a little bit (10%) of new oak. The intent is to offer a textural interpretation of these two grapes. The wine shows natural freshness, white flowers, wood spice and a hint of reduction. The 2023 vintage was cooler, like 2017, making for a classical growing season. This wine has a long saline finish with orchard fruit and pear with a mid-weight approach. The wine is left on the lees for as long as possible to augment that impression of salinity and to create longevity.

Scala Cirò Rosé — Calabria, Italy 2025 750ml

The Scala family has farmed the sun-scorched hills of Calabria for over 200 years — and their Cirò Rosé is one of southern Italy’s most compelling and underappreciated wines. Founded in 1949 and rebuilt with renewed ambition in 2005, the estate is today led by Luigi Scala, a traditionalist who favors quality over quantity and lets the ancient Gaglioppo grape speak for itself. His son Francesco joined in 2008, bringing modern precision to a winery rooted in centuries of Calabrian heritage. The Cirò DOC, established in 1969, is one of Italy’s oldest appellations — and Scala is among its finest interpreters.

Translucent salmon-orange in color with brilliant clarity. The nose is aromatic and inviting: spicy peach, watermelon, and blood orange mingle with distinct stony, mineral notes. On the palate, it is gorgeously rounded and silky — tangy blood orange, peach, and citrus fruits are underscored by wet slate and a saline mineral tension that is unmistakably Calabrian. Schloss Lieser SL Feinherb Estate Riesling has herbal and minerally aroma, really flinty on the nose. Has aromas of fruit and slate that lead to a fresh and round palate with a salty finish.

The Wine Advocate 92 Points | The NV Brut Pinot de Diel is an assemblage of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir, a réserve perpetuelle predominantly harvested in 2021. Aged sur lattes for two years and disgorged with a dosage of four grams per liter in May 2024, the wine opens with deep, bright and fresh, lemony fruit intertwined with delicate brioche, sur lie and also flinty terroir aromas. Round but dry and fresh on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied Brut with a clear, long and mouth-cleansing finish. It's excellent in structure, complexity and length. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025.

James Suckling 92 Points | This creamy, barely medium-bodied sparkling wine tastes very French, with appealing aromas and flavors of yellow apples, brioche and flint. Vinous 92 Points Eric Guido | More savory than sweet and wonderfully complex, the 2019 Brut Rosé North Coast bursts from the glass with toasty notes of fresh baguette and almonds, giving way to crushed apples and gingery spice. This rushes the palate with an elegant bead of silken bubbles. It is creamy yet energetic, and mineral-tinged orchard fruits add further tension. The 2019 leaves the senses wonderfully refreshed through the long, crunchy finale, as white strawberry and spice cookie notes fade. Schramsberg Vineyards Brut Rosé — North Coast, California 2020

Schramsberg Vineyards has been crafting California’s finest Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling wines since 1965, and their Brut Rosé is one of the most celebrated bottles in the American sparkling canon — a wine served at White House state dinners and beloved by sommeliers and collectors alike. The 2020 is a blend of 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay, sourced from coastal vineyards stretching from southern Mendocino to northern Marin County. Within the Scielo line RGMX has a set of monvarietal wines that they age for 10 to 12 months in oak barrels, and the “R.3” is the 100% Syrah. This wine along with its cohorts in the reserva line are excellent windows into the expression of each grape variety that plays a partial role in their other blends. This Syrah is all spice, blueberry skin and plum on the nose with the elements coming from the barrels already well integrated into the overall composition. In the mouth it displays bright acidity in the mouth and notes of green peppercorn, Italian plum, clove and with mid weight - not something that’s easy to achieve with this grape variety. It’s drinking like a song right now, but it will evolve for a decade or more in the bottle.

Tim Atkin, MW 90 Points | Secateurs is one of the South African wine industry’s best calling cards, a large volume Chenin Blanc that could only be produced in the Cape. Aged in foudres, it has a stony top note, deftly judged flavors of peach, pear and pink grapefruit, good palate weight and a bright, tangy finish. Hugely drinkable.

Secateurs – a type of scissors for use on plants. These dry farmed bushvines were planted in the 1960s and 1970s. Fermented and settled in concrete, older casks, and big foudres. Textured, flinty, orange blossom.

Gold colour. On the nose, it is fresh with a nice combination of fruit, mineral and floral nuances. Elegant and refreshing, it is straightforward and concentrated. It first develops aromas of ripe fruit and then finishes on delicate mineral and lively notes. The wine shows great purity.

Winemake Description 

Dry, crisp style with great acidity. Sourced from south-western sections of Zeltinger Himelreich, mid-slope and slate grown. Fermented in neutral fuder. Recognizable Pinot Blanc flavors but with the mineral energy of slate.

Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva — Sardinia, Italy 2021

Sella & Mosca is Sardinia's most storied and important winery, founded in 1899 near Alghero in the northwest of the island. With over 500 hectares under vine, it is one of Europe's largest single-estate wineries — and its Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is the benchmark expression of the island's most celebrated indigenous red grape. Cannonau — known on the mainland and in France as Grenache — has been grown in Sardinia for centuries and thrives in the island's sun-drenched, wind-swept terrain. Sella & Mosca is one of Italy's most celebrated estate wineries, farming 650 hectares of vineyards and Mediterranean scrub on the sun-drenched plains of Alghero in northwestern Sardinia — one of the largest single wine estates in all of Europe. Founded in 1899, the estate has become synonymous with the authentic character of Sardinian wine, producing expressions that are shaped by the island's intense sun, sea breezes, and mineral-rich soils.

La Cala is Sella & Mosca's benchmark Vermentino — a wine that captures the essence of Sardinia in every glass. Vermentino is the island's most celebrated white grape, thriving in the warm, dry Mediterranean climate where the surrounding scrubland, sea air, and rocky soils impart a distinctive aromatic complexity and mineral freshness that is impossible to replicate elsewhere.

The 2025 La Cala is pale straw in the glass with a luminous green tint. The nose is fresh and inviting — citrus blossom, white peach, tropical fruit, and white flowers, accented by a mineral note and a subtle hint of Mediterranean herbs and scrub. On the palate, firm acidity with a soft, balanced texture and a lingering, saline finish. Bright, elegant, and utterly refreshing.

Señorío de Líbano | Castillo de Sajazarra | Rioja Reserva DOCa | Rioja Alta, Spain | 2019

Bodegas Señorío de Líbano is headquartered in the picturesque medieval village of Sajazarra — a true gem of a town in the Rioja Alta, the most prestigious sub-zone of Spain's most celebrated wine region. Rioja Alta's higher altitude, cooler temperatures, and clay-limestone soils produce wines of exceptional structure, elegance, and longevity — the hallmarks of great Rioja Reserva.

The Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva is a classic Rioja blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha, aged 24 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months of bottle aging before release. This extended aging regime — the minimum for Reserva classification — allows the wine to develop the secondary and tertiary complexity that defines great Rioja at its best.

The 2019 is a deep, pillory red with violet reflections. The nose opens with a beautiful combination of secondary and tertiary aromas: leather, smoke, mushrooms, and perfectly matured red fruit, with hazelnut and vanilla notes from the oak. On the palate, unctuous and full with solid structure, mature and sweet well-integrated tannins, and a harmonious, long finish. A Reserva that drinks more like a Gran Reserva — ready to enjoy now without hesitation.

Pair with grilled churrasco, roast lamb, braised short rib, Iberian charcuterie, and aged Manchego or Idiazábal cheese.
