Expert Reviews - Vintage 2022

The Wine Spectator 94 Points | Dynamic and precise, this features a core of steely acidity that frames expressive flavors of raspberry and guava, laced with crushed stone, forest floor and dusky spice notes that gather tension and richness toward fine-grained tannins.

94 James Suckling | The nose is pure and focused, showing aromas of redcurrants, wild raspberries and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and acidity, giving notes of cherry, potpourri, struck match and forest floor. Tightly wound with years of aging ahead.

Lioni Latticini Stracciatella — New Jersey, USA

Lioni Latticini is one of America’s most respected fresh mozzarella producers, a family-owned New Jersey creamery that has been making handcrafted Italian-style dairy since 1975. Their Stracciatella — the luscious filling at the heart of burrata — is made fresh to order from 100% whole cow’s milk with no additives or preservatives. The name comes from the Italian stracciare, “to shred”: hand-pulled shreds of fresh mozzarella are folded into authentic Italian cream to create something that is simultaneously delicate and indulgent. It is one of those ingredients that elevates everything it touches — from a simple bruschetta to a composed pasta dish — with almost no effort required.

Spoon it over grilled bread with a drizzle of great olive oil and flaky salt. Fold it into warm pasta. Serve it alongside roasted tomatoes, prosciutto, or fresh figs. At 16 oz, this is a generous portion built for sharing — or not.

Lioni Latticini Fresh Mozzarella — Union, New Jersey | 8 oz

Lioni Latticini is one of America’s most respected artisan cheese producers, handcrafting fresh Italian-style cheeses from their family-owned facility in Union, New Jersey since 1975. Their fresh mozzarella is made the traditional way — from 100% whole cow’s milk, with no added hormones, additives, or preservatives, and rBST free — resulting in a cheese of exceptional quality that rivals what you’d find in the finest Italian salumerias. Smooth, silky, and delicately moist, it is the kind of mozzarella that makes you understand why fresh and low-moisture are two entirely different cheeses.

The texture is pillowy and yielding, with a clean, milky aroma and a flavor that is fresh, lightly tangy, and subtly sweet — rich without heaviness, and creamy without being dense. It melts beautifully, slices cleanly for a Caprese, and holds its own as the centerpiece of any cheese board. This is everyday fresh mozzarella elevated to something worth seeking out.

Little Sumo Junmai Genshu — Hyogo Prefecture, Japan (200ml Cup)

Little Sumo is brewed in Hyogo Prefecture — Japan's most celebrated sake-producing region and home to the legendary Nada district, where the mineral-rich 'Miyamizu' spring water has been the foundation of Japan's finest sake for centuries. Miyamizu — literally 'shrine water' — is prized for its high mineral content, which promotes vigorous fermentation and produces sake of exceptional richness, structure, and depth. Little Sumo is a Junmai Genshu — a pure rice sake (no added alcohol) bottled undiluted at full fermentation strength, giving it a robust 18% ABV and a stout, rich character that packs an extraordinary amount of flavor into a small package. The rice is polished to 70%, retaining more of the grain's natural richness and contributing to the sake's full, textured mouthfeel. Fermented with proprietary yeast and Miyamizu spring water, it strikes a compelling balance between sweet and dry — fruity, nutty, and built for food.

The nose is inviting and expressive: aromas of melon and plum with a rich, generous character. On the palate, it is full-textured and layered — Asian pear, banana, and almonds, balanced between sweet and dry with a satisfying nuttiness on the finish. Stout, rich, and punchy — it truly packs a lot into a small package. Best served chilled at 45–50°F.

Littorai · Pinot Noir · Sonoma Coast · 2025

This juicy and aromatic Pinot Noir is loaded with flavors of red fruit, meaty cherries, tree bark, and sweet baking spice. It's a blend of de-classified barrels and press wine from the Littorai Sonoma Coast vineyards, including Hirsch, Pivot, Mays Canyon, Thieriot and The Haven, primarily on Gold Ridge loam soils, farmed using organic and biodynamic methods.

Littorai: Wines of Place

The Littorai path flows from a dedication to producing wines of place, wines which reflect the genius of an individual site. There are no substitutes for low yields and careful site and vine selection. Winegrowing is a wonderful word, for it implies that the object is not to produce the most beautiful vine or grape cluster but to produce the finest wine. Such wine should be a reflection of the vineyard and not the cellar. Littorai believes that additives such as cultured yeasts, cultured bacteria, acidification, and enzymes are not appropriate to the greatest expression of terroir; rather than looking to technology, the focus stays on hands-on farming and working with Mother Nature.

Wine is a reflection of the culture from which it springs. Littorai believes in a culture less boisterous and more gracious, making wines not for competitions, ratings, or trends, and holding that elegance and finesse are wholly compatible with concentration and complexity. The Littorai aesthetic is one of finesse, balance, and length.

Upon returning to the United States, Ted worked as a winemaker in Napa Valley and became a consultant to a number of prominent wineries in California, Oregon, and New Zealand.

Lo-Fi Aperitifs Dry Vermouth | California | 750ml

Lo-Fi Aperitifs was born out of a simple conviction: that the best cocktails start with the best vermouth, and that most vermouth on the market wasn't good enough. Founded in California, Lo-Fi set out to make aperitifs that are genuinely delicious on their own — complex, aromatic, and balanced — not just a background note in someone else's drink.

Their Dry Vermouth is built on a foundation of California wine, then layered with a carefully chosen botanical blend: cherry, fennel, elderflower, anise, and chamomile. The result is floral and herbal, with a clean, dry finish and just enough bitterness to keep things interesting. It's the kind of vermouth that makes a Martini worth drinking — and that's equally good poured over ice with a twist.

• Style: Dry Vermouth
• Origin: California, USA
• Botanicals: Cherry, fennel, elderflower, anise, chamomile
• Size: 750ml
• Best For: Martinis, Gibsons, Negroni Bianco, or chilled with a lemon twist

Dr. L is his entry-level expression and his most widely sold wine, designed specifically to introduce drinkers to the delicate, racy style that defines Riesling grown in the ancient slate-soil vineyards of the Mosel valley. Expert Reviews - Vintage 2014

The Wine Advocate 94 Points | I loved the nose of the 2014 Viña Bosconia Reserva, a red that sells at an incredible price for the quality, the problem is (like all their wines) finding it... They had to accelerate the harvest to avoid botrytis caused by the abundant rain during the harvest. This is a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacho and the remaining 5% Graciano and Mazuelo, fermented in old oak vats with their yeasts and matured in neutral American oak barrels for no less than five years. It's elegant and nuanced, developed but young for its age, with a seamless palate and very fine tannins, with energy and light. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 and 6.7 grams of acidity, notable parameters of freshness. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022.

Vinous 94 Points | The 2014 Viña Bosconia is 80% Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from the El Bosque vineyard in Haro, Rioja. Garnet in hue, it opens with cassis, cola and oak-driven aromas. The palate is youthful and smooth, with well-integrated tannins, black fruit and anisette at the finish. Still growing, it’ll develop greater complexity with more time in bottle.

Expert Review - Vintage 2016

The Wine Advocate 95 Points | 2016 was a superb vintage in Rioja, and the 2016 Viña Gravonia Blanco, which has the cellar aroma that all the wines, especially the whites, have, due to the longer time the wines spend in barrel. The white vines in this vineyard are now 92 years old and their juice was fermented in old oak vats with indigenous yeasts. They explained, "We have never used selected yeasts." It was matured in their well-seasoned American oak barrels for four years. It's paler than any of the other whites, and it has a little less pungency, with very good freshness. It's elegant, subtle, clean and ethereal. They had good yields and a good climatic year. 42,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022. I give these wines a conservative drinking window, but they will probably last much longer.

Winemaker Description

A true classic from one of Spain’s most revered traditional wineries, Viña Gravonia Blanco is not your average white wine. Made from 100% Viura and aged for four years in oak and an additional time in bottle before release, the 2016 vintage offers a rare combination of complexity, texture, and age-worthy finesse.

On the nose, it reveals layers of dried stone fruit, chamomile, toasted almonds, and subtle oxidative notes reminiscent of fine sherry. The palate is textured and elegant, with a dry, savory character and remarkable freshness that defies its age.

This is a wine for lovers of history, craftsmanship, and the timeless style that only Lopez de Heredia can deliver.

Think aged white Burgundy meets classic Rioja—delicate, yet full of soul.

There is nothing quite like a Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva. Bright golden, almost fluorescent in the glass, it opens with a complex, layered nose of toast, smoke, mushroom, earth, pollen, and herbal tea — aromas drawn from years spent deep in López de Heredia's ancient underground caves. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet mouth-filling, with pungent, ethereal flavors, searing acidity, and a long, dry finish that ends with a distinctly salty, umami quality. Still young. Built to age effortlessly for decades.

Blend: ~90% Viura / 10% Malvasía Riojana (avg. vine age: 63 years)
Appellation: Rioja Alta, Spain
Vintage: 2014 — bottled December 2022
Aging: Fermented in ancient oak vats with indigenous yeasts; 6+ years in neutral American oak in underground caves
ABV: 12.5% | pH 3.3 | Acidity 6.6 g/L
Format: 750ml

Founded in 1877, Bodegas López de Heredia is one of the last truly traditional Rioja producers — a family estate that has never compromised its methods. Their wines are aged longer than almost any other producer in Spain, and the caves beneath the winery shape every bottle in ways no modern cellar can replicate. Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva stands apart in the world of white wine: it mimics the complexity of aged Sherry and white Burgundy while remaining unmistakably, defiantly Rioja.

"Fills your mouth with pungent flavors, despite being medium-bodied and having an ethereal quality about it — very long and tasty, finishing almost salty, with an umami feeling, dry and chalky. Delicious, clean and still young, it should age effortlessly." — The Wine Advocate, 96 pts

Los Vascos · Cabernet Sauvignon · Colchagua Valley 2023

Los Vascos brings the winemaking heritage of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite to Chile’s Colchagua Valley. The estate traces that connection to 1988, when the group invested in vineyards here, bringing a Bordeaux perspective to this Chilean landscape.

This 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon is a Colchagua red to bring to the table, from grilled steak to a hearty weeknight meal. The estate describes a fruit-driven approach to its Cabernet; vintage-specific tasting notes for this 2023 bottle have not been verified, so we’ve left out the older notes rather than borrowing their flavors.

Los Vascos · Colchagua Valley · 2025

Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exceptional quality to the everyday. The vision of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) to expand their estate took them to South America in 1988, marking the first French viticultural investment in modern Chile. Los Vascos sits in the Colchagua Valley, a closed valley in Chile's central zone roughly 25 miles from the sea, where daily on-shore winds swing temperatures between 68-77°F for optimum grape maturation. With 1,581 acres planted across a 10,000-acre estate at the foot of Mount Cañeten, it's one of the largest vineyards in the Colchagua Valley.

Terroir & Vintage Notes

The estate spans a large diversity of soils: the valley floor holds sand and clay alluvions left by the erosion of neighboring granitic hills, alongside Tosca, a hard soil formed from volcanic ash. Fruit for this Chardonnay is sourced from the coolest parts of Los Vascos in Colchagua. The 2025 growing season saw a winter with above-average temperatures leading to early bud burst, a cooler spring than the relatively warm early summer that followed, before temperatures returned to average and stabilized through harvest.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are harvested before daylight to preserve maximum freshness, then pressed and fermented at low temperature in stainless steel tanks to protect their aromatic potential. The wine is partly aged on its lees, giving it a distinctive, rounded mouthfeel.

Tasting Notes

Crystalline, bright yellow with golden hues. Intense fruit aromas of green pineapple, fresh quince, papaya and jasmine layer with white flowers and grapefruit. The palate is refreshing with good volume, balanced acidity, and a pleasant tension that makes it easy to drink.

Expert Review

"A pure, fresh and restrained chardonnay here with a creamy edge to the lemon zest. A touch of cantaloupe. Creamy, medium-bodied palate with fresh acidity and a composed, supple mouthfeel. No oak." — James Suckling, 91 points (2022 Vintage)

Pairing & Serving

Serve chilled around 45-50°F alongside shellfish, ceviche, roast chicken, or creamy pastas. Its bright acidity and stone-fruit character also make it a natural match for soft cheeses.
