The name of this cuvée "ES-56" stands for Eocene Flint 56 million years ago. The "ES-56" white Sancerre offers incomparable balance and concentration. Its nose, with notes of gun flint and spices, is also reminiscent of Sauvignon flower and its sap. A proud, intense cuvée that will reveal all its elegance and finesse over the years.

Matrot Bourgogne Blanc is 100% Chardonnay from vines with an average age of 20 years. Pressed as whole bunches in a pneumatic press. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels (20% new) for eight to 10 weeks at temperatures of 18-20°C. Undergoes complete MLF and is matured on lees (no stirring) for 12 months. Spends one month in stainless steel to prepare the wine for bottling.

94 Points Jeb Dunnuck | A thrilling bottle of wine that readers should snatch up is the 2016 Château d’Armailhac. This deeply colored, medium to full-bodied, powerful Armailhac gives up a lovely perfume of blackberry and plums fruits, violets, graphite, cedar pencil, and earthy, herbal nuances. Classic, ripe, layered, and just a beautiful Pauillac any way you look at it, it has plenty of upfront sex appeal but is going to keep for 20-25 years as well. Bravo! The 2016 is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

93 Points Decanter | There's fairly high acidity on the attack here, and yet it's well balanced by a body that's richer and deeper than in many years of Armailhac. You can definitely feel the texture and the powerful depth of brambly fruit, and there are also some of the signature lilting floral notes, given extra charge through graphite, liquorice, cassis, and that pulsating acidity. Great quality. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038.

93 Points Wine Advocate | Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 D'Armailhac opens with gregarious crème de cassis, blackberry pie and mulberries scents with hints of chocolate box, roses and charcoal with a waft of dried sage. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and earthy.

93 Points Vinous | The 2016 d’Armailhac, which was bottled in May 2018, has an elegant bouquet that unfolds in the glass, offering blackberries, briar and a touch of cedar and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin, grippy in the mouth, and quite voluminous, with perhaps more density on the solid, almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d’Armailhac wines ever made.

The Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer were de-stemmed and fermented on the skins for 15 days, then pressed and finished both primary and secondary fermentation in neutral French oak. The Riesling came in five weeks later with a kiss of noble rot, and it went direct to press, and was fermented in stainless steel before being moved to neutral oak for secondary fermentation. Both lots were aged sur lie and only racked once for blending/bottling. 100% native yeast and the only addition was S02. Winemaker Description.

One of California's original pinks!  Wild strawberry, peach, guava and rhubarb and a very discreet scent of white pepper with Cinsault furnishing the elegant candied cherry top note that chromatically sits atop its vitaceous conjugate. Mourvèdre, at its near homeopathic level, contributes a useful background earthy note.

It is not known for certain how long Gelber Muskateller has been in the Rust vineyards. We do know that this grape variety used to be called Weirer. This name comes from Weihrauch (frankincense) because the nutmeg scent is so prevalent. Winemaker Description.

Vigneti del Sole Pinot Grigio is a white wine gem from the Veneto region of northeast Italy. We have not found a better Pinot Grigio for the money than Vigneti del Sole! This wine is a pale yellow-green in color. It is a lighter-style Pinot Grigio with plenty of fruit and acidity for a well-balanced wine.

This popular Italian white has crisp acidity and a nose of lemons, green apples and almonds. With no oak, the wine shows the best of the Pinot Grigio varietal flavors.

Always refreshing, the Elvio Cogno 2022 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta offers an exciting change of pace with honeysuckle, white peach, apple and quince. There are salty hints of crushed mineral too. The wine shows medium body and enough textural density to pair with baked fish or white meat.

92+ Points Jeb Dunnuck | Bottled two days ago. the 2022 Nascetta Del Comune Di Novello Anas-Cetta is exuberant with aromas of broth and tropical, herbal, and saline notes. Medium-bodied, with a lovely waxy viscosity, it reveals elements of saline and fresh pineapple, without feeling bloated or heavy. It has an Alpine sensibility, with a light bitter almond note on the finish as well as lime blossom and citrus. This fresh white would work over a broad spectrum of food pairings and could be a sommelier’s secret weapon.

The 2022 Anas-Cëtta Nascetta di Novello expresses a remarkable complexity even in its most youthful phase: notes of fresh fruit and lovely aromas of grapefruit, cedar, and ginger are tied to intense aromas of white flowers, Mediterranean herbs and delicate mineral hints. Despite the warm and dry vintage, the palate shows unexpected crispness, which results in a sharp and dynamic wine, destined to evolve masterfully with the passing of time in the bottle. Salvatore owns and operates a small farm in the Pachino region in the southeast corner of Sicily. There he grows a variety of crops including cereals for pasta flour, olives, fruits and of course grapes. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeast, unfined, minimal sulfites at bottling. The vines are planted in free standing bushes, and hand harvested with respect to the lunar calendar.

Barolo Berri comes from a vineyard at the extreme west border of the Barolo area, with an altitude between 370 and 430 mts asl (1200 -1400 ft). Our Barolo Berri doesn’t want to stand out for complexity or longevity, but for drinkability and immediacy, due to its inner fruit profile, sweet ripeness and freshness. Like any Barolo, it is certainly suitable for long ageing but, in our opinion, this wine can be consumed right after the release with extreme pleasure.

Deep, soaring and wonderfully expressive, the 2020 is stunning in its beauty. Dark red/purplish fruit, orange peel, cinnamon, rose petal and lavender are all amplified in a vertical, soaring Barolo of magnificent intensity. Silky, polished tannins round things out in style. The 2020 is pure and sensual to the core - a total pleasure bomb. (2020).

Jeb Dunnuck 94 Points |  The 2019 Rosso Di Montalcino is ripe but energetic, with pure red cherry, rose petal, orange peel, and white pepper. It is medium-bodied, with elegant ripe raspberry with a graceful feel. Seamless, with fine tannins, it is supple and soft in its texture and raises the bar in a big way for the category. 6,700 bottles were produced. 

Vinous 93 Points |  An unbelievably pretty blend of dusty rose, cherry and sage wafts up from the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino. It’s strikingly beautiful and graceful within, silky yet cool-toned, mixing saline-tinged minerals with ripe red fruits and floral nuances that resonate throughout. The 2019 finishes structured yet potent and long, leaving lingering dried cherry and licorice notes. Cellaring will be required, but with that said, this is a Rosso of astonishing depth and complexity.

The Pian dell Orino estate is adjacent to the Biondi Santi property. This area has a long history of being particularly suited for growing grapes for high quality wines. Husband and wife team Caroline and Jan's love for Tuscany and passion for viticulture binds them particularly to this land, their vines and the resulting wines. 

The wines are produced from four different vineyards that have a total area of 6 hectares. From the beginning they studied the soil and the structure of each vineyard in order to fully understand its characteristics. Fossils, petrified shells and chalk sediment all testify to the earth’s evolutions and recount marine flooding and periods of drought in the area.

Each parcel of fruit was fermented separately at a cool temperature, settled over night, and racked clean. Approximately 8% of the must was barrel fermented in French oak. Given the cool season, specific yeasts were selected to accentuate the melon and passionfruit characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc.

Clean, lean and pure on the nose, extremely refreshing. While there is little reduction on the nose, the finish has a lively mineral limestone feeling. Drink from 2025-2028. 

88-90 points Burghound | Bright and fresh aromas of resin, petrol and lemon zest introduce slightly bigger and richer though less mineral-driven flavors that are at once generous but reasonably precise on the lingering and agreeably dry finale. This relatively forward effort could use better depth so I would suggest holding it for a few years first.

The Clivi Malvasia is 100% Malvasia Istriana from 80 year old vines on soils of marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin. The vineyard is in Brazzano di Cormons, Province of Gorizia, along the Slovenian Border with Friuli. This complex and racy white is lightly aromatic, marked by very gentle camomille aromas. Acidic yet delicate, a perfect example of balance.

Estate History: I Clivi founder Ferdinando Zanusso was raised in the world of wine, his father made wine for his tavern in Treviso, in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. After travelling and spending time in Paris, Ferdinando purchased a vineyard in Friuli in 1996 and soon after his son Mario, now at the helm of the estate, joined him. Vineyards are all worked by hand, dry farmed and certified organic, with vines from 50 to 80 years old.

Jeb Dunnuck writes 91 Points |  I always love this cuvée from Beckmen, and the 2021 Cuvee Le Bec shines for its juicy, up-front, delicious style. A blend of 50% Syrah, 38% Grenache, and the rest Mourvèdre and Counoise, it offers lots of plump blackberry fruit, some peppery herbs, violet nuances, medium body, and a juicy, clean, lengthy finish. An outstanding wine, it will stand toe to toe with the finest Côtes du Rhône out there. 

Antonio Galloni  of VInous writes 91 Points | The 2021 Cuvée Le Bec is a very beautiful entry-level offering from Steve Beckmen. The cooler style of the year comes through in the wine's aromatic presence and lighter personality vis-à-vis most years. Dark red cherry, plum, wild flowers, spice and dried herbs all run through this Syrah-based blend.
