Jeb Dunnuck 91 Points | Adelsheim’s single vineyards were planted in the early 2000s on very steep slopes at 485 to 625 feet elevation. The bright red 2022 Pinot Noir Boulder Bluff Vineyard has a fruity and floral profile with notes of candied raspberries, pressed flowers, sweet herbs, and fresh soil. It takes on more tension on the palate, with finely coiled tannins, juicy, ripe fruit, mouthwatering, fresh acidity, and a long feel throughout the finish. It’s focused and has a good, compact, yet elegant feel. Drink 2025-2037.

Matured for 10 months in 33% new French oak, it opens with wafts of iodine and woodsmoke that give way to wild berry fruit and accents of rose petal and tangerine. VInous 96 Points | The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is another impressive wine from O'Shaughnessy Estate Winery. Bright acids and beams of tannin run through a core of dark red/purplish Howell Mountain fruit. Potent yet refined, the 2021 is a fine effort. Blueberry jam, plum, lavender, chocolate and graphite all build into the huge, vibrant finish.

James Suckling 95 Points | So rich, broad and concentrated, with a very firm texture from the stalwart tannins of Howell Mountain's terroir. Deep in black cherries, dried blueberries and dark chocolate, emphasizing the powerful fruitiness but spicing it with peppery, toasty oak accents. It's a full-bodied, age-worthy wine. The Wine Advocate 94 Points | Sourced from the estate property, O'Shaughnessy's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a bit earthy, with mocha-tinged black cherries on the nose. STORY

We first started making Rosé more than 25 years ago in our backyard, because no one was making the style of Rosé we wanted to drink: with complex French Provençal flavors, but much lighter and crisper. Today, we source the grapes from the Windmill Vineyard and the Muller Vineyard in the Dunnigan Hills AVA of Yolo County. Both vineyards are lovingly farmed organically - and in fact Steve taught one of the vineyard managers how to farm organically 14 years ago.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous writes 97 Points | Very precise, focused aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark chocolate with violet and light tar undertones. Floral. Full-bodied, yet so manicured and refined with tannins that are polished and slightly dusty. Vibrant energy in the tannins, instead of just raw power. Some minerality. Very long finish.

Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points | Possibly the finest vintage for this cuvée (at least that I’ve tasted), the 2018 Bettina is a brilliant blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its vivid ruby/purple color is followed by a captivating nose of crème de cassis, white flowers, toasty oak, bay leaf, and mountain scrub brush-like nuances. Medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, and seamless on the palate, it’s going to benefit from bottle age, but I’d certainly struggle to keep my hands off bottles.

The 2018 Bettina is a classy, polished wine right out of the bottle. A burst of inky dark fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and dried herbs makes a strong opening statement. The decision to use some whole clusters and the elevated amount of Petit Verdot results in a savory, beautifully perfumed wine that impresses from start to finish. Elegant and so precise, the 2018 Bettina is terrific. This is the first vintage of the Bettina to incorporate a dollop of fruit from Bryant Estate as a complement to the Abreu fruit that forms the core of the blend.

Decanter 97 Points | A totally seductive, fresh, and vibrant 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Cathy Corison showcasing fragrant black cherry and blue fruit aromatics, a hint of liquorice and incense, and toasty cedarwood. Medium to full-bodied, with silky boysenberry fruit, satiny tannins, a spine of tantalising acidity, and a long mineral-rich finish lifted by tangerine peel and grapefruit zest. Aged 20 months in French oak barrels, of which 50% were new. The winery has been a Napa staple almost since opening its doors in 1987.

Elaine Chukan Brown of The Wine Enthusiast writes 96 Points | A demonstration of restraint with depth focused on complexity, length, and poise. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon delivers flavors of cedar, firm black plum, and the lightest touch of coffee, lifted by aromatics of crushed fennel seed and hints of pink grapefruit. Tannins are powdery fine while persistent, carried into a long finish by mouthwatering acidity."

James Molesworth of The Wine Spectator wrtes 95 Points | This takes an elegant approach, offering racy, refined notes of iris, violet, hibiscus and mulberry that stay focused and fresh from start to finish, flashing light mineral and anise accents along the way. The finish glistens with purity, and the precision should allow this to evolve nicely in the cellar. Drink now through 2040.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous writes 93 Points | The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is gorgeous. Medium in body and super-expressive, the 2021 is a classic Cathy Corison wine. Pipe tobacco, cedar, crushed leaves and earthy tones all run through this wonderfully nuanced Cabernet Sauvignon. Readers will find an exquisite, alluring old-school Napa Cabernet that delivers the goods, big time. All the elements are so well balanced.

In 2021, a small crop of tiny, tasty berries was the result of major drought, cool
weather at flowering in May, and a heat spike in June. Then moderate temperatures throughout the ripening season brought the fruit to balanced perfection. It’s my 35th vintage!

This wine is so pretty, with dried rose, violet and peony perfume. It’s joined by juicy bright red cherry, raspberry and darker plum, cassis and blackberry fruit notes. Dust, baking spices and hints of chocolate integrate with velvety tannins in seamless harmony. Full-bodied, with full, ripe tannins, it reveals notes of preserved black plum, crushed purple flowers, and turned soil. 

Winemaker Description 

Moving to a darker expression, the 2019 Bootleg Red Blend pours an inky black hue and offers up aromas of pencil shaving, boysenberry preserve, and sweet tobacco. Fullbodied, with full, ripe tannins, it reveals notes of preserved black plum, crushed purple flowers, and turned soil.

Jeb Dunnuck writes 97-100 Points |  I was blown away by the 2022 Château Léoville Poyferré, which is a classic blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Harvest spanned from the 8th to the 28th of September, the vinification is in tronconique tanks (parcel by parcel), and the élevage will span 18-20 months in 80% new barrels. This inky hued beauty offers that rare mix of power and elegance and offers ample cassis and assorted blue fruits, full-bodied richness, an opulent, concentrated, yet flawlessly balanced mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and plenty of classic Saint-Julien violets, espresso roast, and crushed stone-like minerality. Despite its incredible concentration and depth, it stays beautifully balanced. In a region that seems to only talk about finesse and elegance, it's a relief to still have producers such as this producing powerful, intense, singular wines. Hats off to the Cuvelier family and their team.

James Suckling 96-97 Points | A very solid LP with black berry, blackcurrant, crushed stone and lavender character. Full and really well structured with a linear length to it. Focused and so polished. Thoughtful. 58% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.

Neal Martin of Vinous 95-97 Points | The 2022 Léoville Poyferré was picked 8 to 28 September at 33.4hL/ha and matured in 80% new oak. It has a high IPT of 93 and 14.4% alcohol (half a degree less than the 2018). It is quintessentially LP on the nose, with those extravagant and sensual black and blueberry fruit, intermingling with crushed violet and iris. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very harmonious and focused, perhaps more linear than expected with a velvety-smooth finish. This is a very classy, sophisticated Saint-Julien that may well rest at the top of my banded score once in bottle.

Tim Fish of The Wine Spectator writes 91 Points | Plump and jammy, with lively flavors of blackberry and cherry accented by licorice, cracked pepper and roasted sage. Drink now through 2032. 

Winemaker Description 

Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with spicy aromas of ripe cinnamon and white pepper along with red berries and a touch of vanilla. Red cherry flavors combine with vanilla, licorice and warm baking spices. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek Zin, includes a touch of pepper on the rounded finish which are a hallmark of our style. 

Winemaker Description 

The 2023 growing season in Paso Robles was extended due to the wet winter and cool spring weather, allowing extra hang time for fruit to develop flavor, without sacrificing acidity. The resulting wine shows beautiful complexity and depth, with concentrated fruit flavors including dark cherry, blackberry, and cassis. Aging in French oak deepens our flavor profile, contributing to the tobacco and spice notes. The structure is firm but approachable, providing a fine backbone for the rich fruit.

The individual lots for this wine spent months aging separately in French Oak, before Winemaker Abigail Estrada hand-selected the final blend. The result is richness yet restraint — allowing this Cabernet to be paired with an array of cuisines or simply enjoyed on its own.

On the nose, there are lovely aromas of Satsuma plum, black cherry, and subtle graphite from Paso Robles’ mineral-rich soils. On the palate, you'll find flavors of ripe red cherry, mixed berry pie, and Tahitian vanilla. The finish is smooth with well-integrated tannins. It’s opulent, richly textured, and beautifully balanced.

Decanter 93 Points | A blend of Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Chardonnay from small vineyards around the Napa Valley. Each variety is harvested separately and fermented independently in French Oak—aromas of honey, lychee and crushed stone. The palate is fleshy and mouth-filling with rich, ripe peach and honeyed apricot, finishing with a mouthful of wild, savoury herbs.

Michael Alberty of the Wine Enthusiast 93 Points | I'm a Kansas kid, so I'm a sucker for a sunflowers. The juice inside this bottle, however, is what will make me buy it again. The Sunflower offers aromas of lemon, rosemary and a wee bit of butterscotch. A rich texture and lemon curd and brioche flavors are counterpointed by tangy acidity. Pour with The Wizard of Oz.

Eric Guido OF Vinous writes 92 Points | Honeyed flowers, green melon, chamomile and hints of gingery spice waft up from the 2021 Chardonnay The Sunflower. Soothingly round, this impresses with its depths of ripe pit fruits and candied citrus tones, all perfectly offset by a salty tinge of minerality. This estate grown Zinfandel is crafted from cuttings from six unique heritage
Zinfandel selections that serve as a tribute to the original plantings that began California winemaking. The wine showcases spicy aromas of crushed black pepper with ripe raspberry notes that open to a core of mixed berry, caramel, cinnamon and clove.

This is a wonderful tribute wine where we bring together Zinfandel selections from historic California vineyards. I can imagine in the days of old, neighbors all tasting each other’s home-grown, home-made Zinfandels and the desire to grow cuttings from the best of show. As a legacy family, we will keep this viticulture history alive with each bottling of our Heritage Block Zinfandel, dry farmed on head trained vines and fermented with wild yeasts.”
