Jokigen Junmai Sake Green Label — Yamagata Prefecture, Japan

Sakata Shuzo has been brewing sake in Yamagata Prefecture — in the Tohoku region of northern Japan — for generations, drawing on the soft, mineral-pure waters of Sakata and the cold mountain climate that makes Yamagata one of Japan’s most celebrated sake-producing regions. The brewery’s Jokigen label (“good mood” in Japanese) is a fitting name for a sake built around pleasure, generosity, and the kind of fruit-forward character that makes it as welcome at the casual table as at the considered dinner.

The Green Label Junmai is brewed from Hyogo-grown Yamada Nishiki rice — the undisputed king of sake rice — milled to 70% and fermented with Jokigen’s proprietary house yeast. Yamada Nishiki is prized for its large grain size, low protein content, and exceptional ability to develop glossy texture and tropical fruit character during fermentation. At SMV +2, this is technically dry, but the lush, fruity aromatics and medium-full body give it a richness and generosity that belies the numbers. An atypically fruity Junmai — and all the better for it.

Clear and bright in the glass. The nose is vibrant and inviting — fresh toasted grains, lush tropical fruit, and a lift of muscat grape. On the palate it is medium-full bodied with a beautiful glossy texture, flavors of fresh apple, muscat, and ripe stone fruit, and a soft but dry finish that keeps it food-friendly and endlessly sippable. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Little Sumo Junmai Genshu — Hyogo Prefecture, Japan (200ml Cup)

Little Sumo is brewed in Hyogo Prefecture — Japan's most celebrated sake-producing region and home to the legendary Nada district, where the mineral-rich 'Miyamizu' spring water has been the foundation of Japan's finest sake for centuries. Miyamizu — literally 'shrine water' — is prized for its high mineral content, which promotes vigorous fermentation and produces sake of exceptional richness, structure, and depth. Little Sumo is a Junmai Genshu — a pure rice sake (no added alcohol) bottled undiluted at full fermentation strength, giving it a robust 18% ABV and a stout, rich character that packs an extraordinary amount of flavor into a small package. The rice is polished to 70%, retaining more of the grain's natural richness and contributing to the sake's full, textured mouthfeel. Fermented with proprietary yeast and Miyamizu spring water, it strikes a compelling balance between sweet and dry — fruity, nutty, and built for food.

The nose is inviting and expressive: aromas of melon and plum with a rich, generous character. On the palate, it is full-textured and layered — Asian pear, banana, and almonds, balanced between sweet and dry with a satisfying nuttiness on the finish. Concentrated peachy fruit is married to excellent structure and the balance of the touch of natural grape sweetness with wet stone minerality and crisp acidity is dazzling. Vinous 92 Points | The 2021 Chardonnay watts up with a vivid mix of lime-tinged yellow apple and nuances of vanilla custard. This is soft and enveloping, with a mix of saline minerals and sweet spice that gives way to tart orchard fruit. The 2021 finishes long and structured, potent yet fresh while leaving a staining of almond extract richness. There's a lot of power here, along with the balance to mature through medium-term cellaring.

Gold colour. On the nose, it is fresh with a nice combination of fruit, mineral and floral nuances. Elegant and refreshing, it is straightforward and concentrated. It first develops aromas of ripe fruit and then finishes on delicate mineral and lively notes. The wine shows great purity.

Half-Bottle. This wine is a gastronomic specialty made from hand-picked frozen grapes that were harvested in the early morning hours at 10F. These grapes produce only a small amount of highly concentrated juice.

The resulting wine is similarly concentrated with intense flavors of apricot, pineapple and spicy pear. Its silky sweetness is balanced by bright acidity, which makes it perfect to pair with richer desserts.

Concentrated and elegant, Valle Reale's Trebbiano d'Abruzzo combines bright fruit with delicate aromas of white flowers and flint (an aroma encouraged by the old-fashioned pied-de-cuve technique).

Pale straw-lemon in color, the wine has delicate aromas of green apples and tree fruits complementing undertones of peaches, wildflowers, and a hint of freshly cut grass. The 2024 Dissonance shines with a beautiful, complex bouquet of lemon, lime, acacia flower, dried apricots, and a hint of Pecorino cheese. Pear and peach attack on the palate with good richness up front, impeccable balance, and bright acidity upon first sip. A long finish of pear and grapefruit complete this wine that is beautifully integrated from start to finish.

The Wine Advocate 90 Points | The 2021 Prazo de Roriz is a lighter red with contained ripeness and 13.5% alcohol, designed to be drunk young, that has aromas of berries and herbs with a touch of beeswax and honey. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and clean flavors, sleek and polished with good freshness and fruity flavors in the finish.

Vila Santa is produced in the Alentejo region, located in the south of Portugal. Its name originates from the title given in the 15th century to the members of the ancient Priest Congregation of St. John Evangelist, known simply as Loios. Loios monks have always had a deep connection to the history of Alentejo, especially to its wines.

Syrah has a long history of cultivation on the island of Sicily with first records mentioning it in 1868. After decades of evolving and adapting to the region’s unique terroir, the Sallier de La Tour family became convinced of the varietal’s potential to thrive in the Monreale area where the soils are rich in potassium and the natural springs found under the vineyards allow the grapes to retain freshness.

The vineyards’ exposition and proximity to the sea allow for even and optimal ripening and the resulting wines display the fruit, balance and elegance indicative of the Syrah grape.

The Legado line of wines from De Martino showcase a specific varietal and their cultivation in the best terroirs of Chile resulting in wines that express the true character of each region. International Wine Report - 95 points - The IV Montem Soils series is a special bottling of 7 different wines chosen from the 12 acres of the Fidelitas Estate to showcase the highest quality wines of the vintage. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc makes up the 2021 IV Montem Soils Red Wine from Fidelitas. Pouring a brooding deep purple core with a fluorescent purple rim, this tight-young wine has a ton of promise in the glass. Bountiful notes of black plums, black and red currants, tobacco leaf, cassis, sweet tangerine zest, dried mountain sage, eucalyptus, and sweet clove. Acidity falls in the moderate plus range, alongside tight tannins and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Give this one another 2 years before you open it up for best results.

Light to moderate tannins. Light-bodied, dry, black currant, black cherry, plum, and cassis with good mouthfeel fades with dry, dark fruit and finishes with dry, mild tannin. The fruit fades quickly and the body and tannin much slower.

Bright violet color. Aromas of red berries, spices and dried flowers with a spicy note that is becomes pronounced as it breathes. Juicy in the mouth, offers fresh currants and cherry flavors. Fine-grained tannins add to a long finish with accented spices.

The Gelin family invested in a larger, more efficient winery, which was upgraded and ready for the 2011 harvest. “The new winery allows us more flexibility during harvest, as well as the technology to increase wine quality,” says Pierre-Emmanuel. The wines of Domaine Pierre Gelin have always been de-stemmed with a long cuvaison of 8-10 days and a judicious use of oak. Only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation which takes place in stainless-steel and oak tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel and the wines are aged for 20-24 months in varying percentages of new oak: up to 80% new oak for the Grand Cru, and 25% new for the premier crus. They use older barrels for village wines.
