Nozawa Onsen Village, Kita Shinshu, is located about 90 minutes from Nagano City, in the Japanese Alps of Nagano Prefecture. Nozawa is a small village with a population of 3,600 that attracts skiers from all over the world during the powder snow season. The town gets its name from the famous natural mineral hot springs ‘onsen’, which date to the 8th century and has been a travel destination for Japanese nationals since the Edo period. The Nozawa Onsen Distillery is in the heart of the village, in a renovated canning factory, historically used by villagers for the preservation of both farmed and wild mountain vegetables.

Under the guidance of Head Distiller Isamu Yoneda, Nozawa Onsen Distillery Gins reflect the terroir of this remote village. Proud local traditions and unique festivals continue with a local community deeply protective of its unique culture and heritage. In Nozawa Onsen, you can hear the sound of rushing water everywhere. Over the course of 50 years, the snowfall on the mountain top filters through the earth to become pure spring water flowing through the village. Blessed with pristine mountain spring water and botanicals sourced from the peaks, slopes, and valley floor of Mt. Kenashi, you can taste the Spirit of Nozawa in every sip.
Tasting Note

Nozawa Onsen Classic Dry Gin is distilled for the bold and intrepid. Notes of citrus are enhanced by punchy local sansho pepper. Makes a perfect martini or any classic gin drink.

Nozawa Onsen Iwai Gin is a celebration of the region’s Spring harvest season. The subtle flavors of sakura, plum and applewood deliver in this fruity and floral gin. Try it with tonic water on ice or mixed in a delicate cocktail.

Only in the desert can you truly understand refreshment. So, our plucky Hendrick’s Master Distiller Ms. Lesley Gracie travelled to just such a place for inspiration (yes, she really did!). After a game of camel polo she saw the most welcome sight – the vivid colours of the oasis! This is no mirage!

Captivated by this lush paradise and the party of spectacular beasts in attendance, Gracie had an idea. By combining the aromatic herbs and bright fruits of a desert oasis she could create a new expression of Hendrick’s like no other. From the Oasis came forth Oasium (pronounced oh-ace-e-yum).

Silky verdant green notes sing in delicious harmony with fresh aromatic herbs and a wonderfully fresh citrus finish. The classic juniper character of Hendrick’s Gin reaches new heights with a romantic entwinement of lush green aromas, deep delicate herbal tones, and a small touch of invigorating citrus. A 750ml bottle of Plymouth Sloe Gin (26% abv). Sloe berries are slowly and gently steeped in Plymouth Gin, soft pure Dartmoor water and a small amount of sugar for approximately 4 months.

The sugar levels are kept low to allow the full flavour of the berries to shine and allow the dry acidity of the fruit to be an important part of the taste. The result is an entirely natural product with no added flavourings or colourings. Sloe Gin has long been enjoyed as a ’winter warmer’ in the countryside.

Gilbey's Gin is a delicate blend of 12 natural ingredients to achieve the ideal mix of complexity and balance to deliver a smoother, tangy, refreshingly dry gin with a hint of citrus that's the perfect choice anywhere, anytime. The key botanicals are; juniper, coriander, lemongrass, orange peel, kalamansi, angelica root, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Appearance is a pine-forward juniper, bitter orange rind, coriander mid-Taste, surprisingly obvious for a second and then quickly vanishing from consciousness. Aroma is classic with plenty of juniper, with orange zest and angelica present as well.

The lower notes have the bright, sappy, angelica still accompanied by the orange. The Nose is simple, but familiar and inviting. It’s fresh and generally quite positive. The Taste is assertive and sharp, with lots of classic gin botanicals making an— the Finish is sharply citrus with a mineral-tinged, calciferous/slightly chalky astringency.

Quite dry, with a roar of heat that is more expected at this price point. The Finish is moderately long, with that orange/citrus note enduring.

Producer Description 

Gin flavored with handpicked juniper berries from its Hamptons estate, cardamom, cumin, coriander, fennel and anise. The most eye-catching detail about this spirit is definitely its trendy pink color, which winemaker and partner Roman Roth gets by using the vineyard's rosé wine as the base for the gin. Once the rosé is distilled, Roth adds a small amount of grape skin extract to get that subtle pink color.

It is what Hendrick's might taste like in a parallel universe Orbium is a reimagining of Hendrick's Gin by Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie. Instilled with additional extracts of Quinine, Wormwood and Blue Lotus Blossom, the result is an oddly exquisite gin that sits roundly on the palate.

Old Raj gin has been produced for us since 1972 and is available at 46% and 55% abv. Bottling takes place in Campbeltown. This quality floral gin has a slight yellow tint due to the addition of the saffron. This valuable and rare ingredient is added post distillation.

• The firm of William Cadenhead Limited, Wine and Spirit Merchants, was founded in 1842 and was in the ownership of the same family until it was taken over by the well known Campbeltown firm of J & A Mitchell & Co. Ltd who own Springbank Distillery. The premises were in Netherkirkgate in Aberdeen and although the street numbers were changed from time to time the premises were the same and indeed were almost unaltered during their 130 years of trading in Aberdeen.

Our special rose water edition, brings an African floral expression to the range. Bayab African Rose gin combines botanicals, such as baobab fruit, African rose petals, Rose water, coriander and sea salt, resulting in a slightly sweeter and floral gin.
