Cantine Colosi Grillo Sicilia — Sicily, Italy 2024
Grillo is one of Sicily's most fascinating indigenous white grapes — once prized as the backbone of the island's famous Marsala, it fell out of fashion as fortified wine declined, only to be rediscovered by a new generation of Sicilian producers who recognized its potential as a fresh, clean, expressive varietal wine. Cantine Colosi, based on the Aeolian Islands and the Sicilian mainland, is one of those producers: a family winery with deep roots in the island's winemaking tradition, committed to showcasing Sicily's native varieties with honesty and craft. Their Grillo is certified vegan and made to express the grape's natural freshness and aromatic character without intervention.
The 2024 pours a pale straw yellow. The nose is intense and inviting — fresh floral aromas, golden apple, stone fruit, tropical hints, and a savory herbal note that speaks to the Sicilian terroir. On the palate, it's bright and lively with orange zest, grapefruit, white peach, and a clean, sapid, refreshing finish of genuine length. Wonderfully balanced and endlessly food-friendly.

2023 Vintage Reviews:
James Suckling writes: A fragrant grillo that exudes aromas of lime peel, grapefruit, pineapple, sweet vanilla and almond blossoms. It’s creamy and exotic with a medium body and a fruity and lightly honeyed finish. Vegan. Drink now. - James Suckling 90
2022 Vintage Reviews:
Eric Guido writes: A sweet burst of confectionary spice and white smoke gives way to nectarine as the 2022 Grillo opens in the glass. This reverberates with mineral tension as crisp orchard fruits cascade beneath an air of tropical inner florals. Young mango and kiwi notes slowly taper off as the 2022 finishes fresh and with medium length. - Vinous
2021 Vintage:
