Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana Palo Cortado Wellington VOS 20yrs 500 ml
Producer Description
Palo Cortado is unusual, in that it first ages under a film of yeast ‘flor’ which protects it from oxygen, but unexpectedly loses its flor and ultimately ages oxidatively. Only 1-2% of all sherries produced ultimately become a Palo Cortado. Thus, the freshness of Manzanilla and Oloroso and the complexity of dry Amontillado are combined. When aged over twenty years it is entitled to the designation VOS (Very Old Sherry). This sherry was once sold to British troops under the name ‘Wellington’, and the 1st Duke of Wellington’s portrait is still used on the label today.
The palate is full rich and rounded. A very light amber color given its advanced age, and a bouquet that demands attention. Delicate and pure on the nose. Penetrating aromas, nutty yet with tangy freshness. Completely dry, but notes of butterscotch and walnuts. A clean, racy style, with almond and hazelnut husk notes backed by toasted corn, walnut and singed sandalwood accents. A touch of dried persimmon echoes on the very dry finish. One of the great dry sherries. 17.5% ABV.

Wine Enthusiast | Forget about Sherry styles, Matusalem operates in its own zone with its own rules. An intense, smoky nose shows charred barrel notes and prune aromas. A rich but snappy palate is not the least bit sticky, while deep flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and molasses finish with grace.
Wine Spectator | Walnut, halva, raisin and buckwheat honey notes are layered, backed by hints of bitter almond and toasted pecan. Shows good energy for a cream style, with the bitter edge imparting length and cut.
Matusalem is a 30 year old blend of Oloroso and PX. It shows an intense mahogany color with profound aromas of dried fruits, raisins, spices and mature oak. On the palate it is smooth, sweet, long and velvety. This wine has an interesting bittersweet finish due to the sweetness of the PX and the bitter tannins from the oak. Ideal with mature cheeses and blue cheese such as Stilton. Also perfect as a dessert wine with apple pie. Serve chilled. Winemaker Description.

Wine Spectator 91 Points | Takes a flattering approach, featuring a lightly sweet, rounded edge to the date, blood orange, toasted pecan and fruitcake aromas and flavors, with toasted marshmallow and bourbon-glazed peach notes on the finish. Drink now.
Wine Enthusiast 93 Points | Aromas of burnt orange and baking spices are upright and snappy for a Sherry that s fairly creamy. Fine acidity is what keeps this on an even keel and what gives lift to flavors of caramel, brown sugar and candied walnut. This is full and voluminous on the finish.
Emilio Hidalgo Oloroso Sherry Villapanes 750ml
Wine Spectator | A shade darker than its peers, relying more on black walnut, Brazil nut and singed orange peel notes, while dried persimmon and quince flavors add a succulent side. Light rye and green tea hints echo through the razor-sharp finish, where sweet details peek in.
Robert Parker | The NV Villapanes Oloroso wears a dark amber-brown robe and has a very intense nose, showing some marmalade, dark tobacco and brandy notes. The palate is textbook Oloroso, round, ample, warm, a little spirity, ending with dry walnut flavors. It manages to balance power and elegance quite well.
Wine & Spirits | Dominated by notes of salted almonds, this Oloroso has its fair share of sweetness to balance that saline side, making it more readily accessible to a wider range of palates and fitting perfectly with smoked pork.
Villapanes is a rich mahogany color and boasts seductive, toasty aromas of almonds, caramel, fig and a hint of floral perfume. On the palate it is dry, generous and full-bodied, with persistent and lasting flavors.

Vina Callejuela La Casilla Amontillado 500ml
Robert Parker | The 2022 bottling of the NV Amontillado La Casilla doesn't have a clear bottling date, but it has a lot number on the back label. It has a golden-brown color and a complex nose. It comes from the Manzanilla Pasada Blanquito and has a profile of an old wine, with notes of rusty nail and low tide, and also a Sanlúcar profile, sharp and saline with rustic finesse. It's pungent, long and salty. This is rare to keep the old age of the wine. Best After 2029
Amontillado of the most pristine kind. Traditional notes of almonds and walnut skin but with a citrus blast and floral lantana-like elegance that perfumes the salty toasted notes of dark cocoa and coffee beans. Incredibly dry, this elegant wine has endless layers and should be consumed over the course of weeks. Winemaker Description.

Gonzalez Byass DEL DUQUE Amontillado VORS 30yrs 375ml HALF BOTTLE
94 Points Robert Parker | The NV Amontillado del Duque VORS is Palomino of at least 30 years of age from the Tio Pepe solera. The color is dark amber, with a very powerful nose of old wood, candied fruit and walnuts. The sharpness of the palate is somehow balanced by an off-dry feeling which makes it very drinkable.
94 Points Wine & Spirits | These soleras, believed to be more than 300 years old, were purchased from the Duke of Medinacelli in 1835. The wines for this Amontillado averaged 30 years in oak, and its severity brings something extremely salty to mind: This is as briny as sea urchin, balanced by a light sweetness that murmurs underneath. The sheer force of the minerality makes no concessions to the fruit flavors. For smoked oysters.
94 Points Decanter | Maple syrup, wood polish, butterscotch and toffee nose. Great finesse on the palate with a silky texture and salty caramel flavours. Long, fresh finish.
93 Points Wine Spectator | Stylish, with warm date, hazelnut, toasted almond and salted caramel notes that extend through the finish, starting dry but ending with a tantalizing echo of sweetness.
93 Points Wine Enthusiast | Toffee and almond aromas are a touch aggressive and hot. Matching the nose, this is intense but still well balanced by core acidity. A giant heaping of rancio blends with flavors of almond skins, apricot and salt in front of a never-ending finish.
Jancis Robinson | If you love Highland single malt, you will instantly get this peaty, sweet and wild and glossy sherry. It's cobbler's glue and smoked honey on the nose; sea-spray, smoke and Highland honey in the mouth. It tastes of bracken, black with the bruise of mountain streams and mountains stones; of brackish streams salt-licked with minerals; of kumquats pickled in tamarind and smoky with the under-growl of black cardamom. It's satin and sea glass and sunset. Formidably complex and yet approachable. 18/20 points.
This 30 year old Amontillado shows a dark golden color due to the extended time spent in cask. On the nose sharp aromas of dried fruits and nuts. On the palate dry and powerful, well structured with an enternal aftertaste. This wine maintains a surprisingly delicate finesse. A wine to be meditated or enjoyed with powerful dishes such as small game. Serve slightly chilled. Winemaker Description.
Hidalgo La Gitana Manzanilla EN RAMA 750ml
The Hidalgo La Gitana Manzanilla En Rama — a style of Manzanilla or Fino that is drawn straight from the solera and bottled with little to no fining, filtration or stabilization — is a special bottling that has been produced only since 2011. Twice a year — once in the spring and once in the fall, when the flor is at its thickest — Hidalgo takes wine straight from the solera and bottles a small release with minimal treatments, resulting in a Manzanilla that is more concentrated, complex and intense.
Brilliant mid-lemon color with intoxicating aromas of chamomile, dried herbs, sea spray, flor and dried nuts. The palate shows a striking depth of flavor with remarkable length and purity; soft and round with flavors of apple skin, dried pear, hazelnut, salt and a healthy dose of flor. Stunning for its complexity, richness and depth. Winemaker Description.
