Kir Yianni Ramnista 2021 expresses the aromatic complexity and structure of Xinomavro from Naoussa in northern Greece. Dark fruit and characteristic dried tomato nuances meet firm tannins and robust acidity, giving this red a distinctive savory character.
Producer & Terroir
Kir-Yianni was founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris, a leading figure in Greek wine, after he left the Boutari Wine Group, the family company his grandfather established in 1879. Today, Stellios Boutaris, a fifth-generation winemaker, leads the estate with a philosophy that combines innovation, respect for tradition and knowledge of wine from grape to glass.
The estate’s roots reach back to 1970, when Yiannis planted 40 hectares of Xinomavro on the eastern foothills of Mount Vermion in Yianakohori, near Naoussa. This vineyard would become Ktima Kir-Yianni. In 1985, he planted 20 hectares of white varieties in the Amyndeon highlands west of Mount Vermion. Between 1985 and 1990, Merlot and Syrah were planted in selected estate parcels, where they adapted successfully to the local mesoclimate.
In 1996, an old winery in Agios Panteleimon, nicknamed “Paranga,” or “the Shack,” was purchased to become the Kir-Yianni winery in Amyndeon. The following year marked the founding of Kir-Yianni and the first vintage entirely vinified in the newly built winery at Ktima Kir-Yianni.
Tasting Notes
Aromatically precise dark fruit is accented by the dried tomato character associated with Xinomavro. The palate balances expressive fruit with polished, structured tannins and refreshing acidity. Ramnista offers both savory depth and finesse.

Wine Spectator, 93 Points · 2021
The Kir-Yianni 2021 Naoussa Xinomavro Ramnista Single Vineyard captures the elegance and refinement of this flagship northern Greek variety. Compared to the warmer 2022 vintage, it shows greater aromatic precision with notes of dark fruit and the subtle dried tomato nuance that is characteristic of Xinomavro. The palate is expressive and finely balanced, with polished tannins that provide structure without sacrificing finesse. Sourced from nine vineyard blocks and aged for 14 months in French oak, Ramnista remains one of the benchmark expressions of Naoussa Xinomavro.
