The Wine Advocate - 90 Points "There are more than 25,000 cases of the excellent 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown, a blend of fruit from the winery's Coombsville and Stags Leap District properties. Aged in 40% new oak (almost entirely French, although there is a small Hungarian component), it marries notes of cedar and dried spices with ripe cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, silky textured and open-knit, not hugely rich or concentrated, just a nice, balanced effort to drink over the next decade."

Upon opening, concentrated aromas of blackberry and dark plum fill the nose. The palate is full-bodied with flavors of dark cherry, boysenberry, and a hint of tobacco. Well-balanced and structured with lingering notes of toasted oak on the long finish.

Kith & Kin, Old English for “Friends & Family”, is a Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from all corners of the Napa Valley but with its heart rooted in Rutherford. This wine is approachable in its youth, with balanced tannins and a fruit-forward character. The vast majority of fruit comes from our estate, supplemented by a limited amount from Napa Valley growers.

Beautifully complex and rich aromatics of bright cassis and ripe red fruit jump out of the glass upon the first encounter. This wine opens with bright raspberry, softening through the mid-palate with notes of toffee, cocoa, and crème brulee. The soft and smooth mouth feel paired with fine-grained tannins effortlessly round out this young and serious, yet remarkably approachable Cabernet.

We embraced the structure up front when making this wine because we wanted a strong phenolic profile to bind with and stabilize the tannin. Baking spices (clove and cinnamon) with a kiss of oak.

There is so much perfume in this wine: fresh flowers and lavender are bolstered by ripe plum, sandalwood and cherry compote. There’s also an incredibly appealing note of Earl Grey or bergamot that lifts the entire aromatic profile. Lingering behind the fruit is where the action starts as black pepper, vanilla, crushed rock and soy are revealed.

Farming requires optimism. That’s especially true in viticulture, given the timeline to transition bare ground into a finished wine.

At a minimum, it takes three years from gently hand-planting each individual vine to the first harvest. However, that initial crop is quite small and it will be another two to three years before the vines really hit their stride. After harvest, fruit destined for the Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon will spend an additional two years in barrel before bottle aging in our cellar prior to release. At best, it’s six solid years of farming, winemaking and cellaring before we can pull that first cork. That type of commitment requires a fundamental belief in ourselves, our work and our mission.

We have to believe that going the extra mile, pushing a little harder and accounting for every small detail is not only worth it, but will be appreciated years from now. Moreover, we have to be curious, creative and daring for the future of each wine and the land we steward. In short, we have to believe that the future will be better and we cherish our small contribution.

Sourced from some of California's finest, sun-drenched vineyards, our Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and full-bodied with characteristics of ripe dark fruit such as blackberry and plum. It has hints of oak and vanilla with a velvety finish.

This highly acclaimed vineyard produces classic wine with dark cassis and blackberry notes. It is reminiscent of a fine Bordeaux from Pauillac. Its fine-grained tannins are strong, yet polished, making it wonderful for drinking today or for saving for a special occasion in the future. 

The 2022 Charming Creek Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep mahogany color packed with raspberry and ripe black fruit characters expanding into mint and toasty oak aromas. The Pact 2019 lives up to Faust legend with beautiful dark blueberry and blackberry aromas over layers of crushed rock minerality, haunting forest notes and hints of violet. With the texture of velvet—luxuriously dense—the palate wraps that core of blue and back fruit with the barest edge of bright cherry spiced with star anise and savory dried tarragon. Silky tannins and generous ripe fruit linger through an endless, vibrant finish. There’s a long life ahead for this Cabernet.

Our second coolest micro-climate is our five-acre Gravelly Meadow vineyard. Originally a pre-historic river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly and the vines struggle for moisture.

Wine & Spirits Magazine 93 Points | Meghan Zobeck makes this wine with cabernet from Burgess’s Sorenson Vineyard, a west-facing parcel on Howell Mountain, blending in a small amount of petit verdot and malbec from Haymaker, an eastfacing vineyard slightly higher in elevation. Aged mostly in neutral French oak barrels (15 percent were new), this developed a textural grace without the weight of oak tannins, feeling airy in its richness. There’s darkness to the fruit and a marrow-bone savor, ending light and breezy.

Our Napa Valley Cabernet combines the character of the three AVAs where we farm Cabernet Sauvignon. 

Weathered high-elevation vineyards on Howell Mountain and Mt Veeder provide intensity of color, higher acidity levels and spiciness from the surrounding forests.

The lower elevation blocks of southern and northern Calistoga, with rocky soils and more extreme heat summation, provide the lush midpalate and fine tannin.

The result is a real mouthful of cherries jubilee. Huge yet soft on the palate, a flood of goodness is framed in the gentle grip of soft tannin.

The Wine Advocate 93 Points | The 2013 Alghero Marchese di Villamarina is a pricey wine but it is also an ambitious one. This pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the first wines to put Sardinia on the world wine map. It is a symbol of the soaring aspiration of island viticulture in a modern context (remember, archaeological traces of the Mediterranean's oldest wines were found here). The wine possesses a dark and richly concentrated appearance with lingering aromas of dark fruit, spice and black olive. The mouthfeel is dense and compact with a dry, mineral-driven finish. This is a great wine from a classic vintage.

The Wine Advocate 95 Points | Her flagship wine is the Cabernet Sauvignon, which comes from several sources, most notably Calistoga and Pritchard Hill. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc (500 cases). It is a beauty, very much in the style of 2012, with its flamboyant nose of blueberries, blackberries, new saddle leather. Following on the palate are juicy, succulent, full-bodied flavors, sweet tannin, low acidity and a flamboyant and dramatic mouthfeel. This is a superb Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 15-20 years. 

Vinous 92 Points | Black cherries, plums, mocha, spices and dark chocolate are all super-expressive in La Sirena's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and voluptuous to the core, the Cabernet is a terrific example of the year and all of its near term appeal. Drink this racy, open-knit Cabernet Sauvignon over the next decade or so. Arlow Wants To Be A Low-Alcohol Wine For Health-Conscious Wine Lovers.

"Over the last five years, we've seen increasing demand for solutions to moderate alcohol intake,” Arlow CEO Brandon Joldersma tells Forbes. “While non-alcohol wine has prospered, we discovered that there has been little innovation in low-alcohol wine.”

Joldersma highlighted the complex process of creating Arlow’s wines, involving blending full-alcohol wines with dealcoholized ones to achieve the desired 6.5% ABV. After a lot of experimentation, Joldersma says the team—including a winemaker and a flavor scientist—realized that they could create wines with around half the alcohol (and calories) of regular wines, which on average can have ABV levels between 12% and 15%, depending on the varietal and winegrowing region.

Thankfully, we have an in-house team that can dedicate the time required to get these blends right,” Joldersma says. “We taste hundreds of wines from our vineyard partners in California, working through a litany of blends to make sure we’re hitting the mark. It’s an art as much as it is a science.”

Purple-hued, with ample cassis, wild sage, graphite, and darker chocolate-like aromatics, it picks up a Graves-like gravelly earth character with air and is full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. This intensely inky-colored Cabernet Sauvignon wine is grown in the well-drained, stony and iron-rich soils of the Weir Family Vineyard along the Silverado Trail, one mile south of the famed Stags' Leap appellation and ten yards from the Oak Knoll District, the Valley's newest sub-appellation.

The rich, spicy nose of bakers' chocolate and black cherry complements the brooding and spice-filled black licorice, black cherry, plum and cranberry on the palate. The addition of 10% Cabernet Franc enhances the complexity of the wine, as well as adding to our trademark robust and silky mid-palate. Aged for 19 months in small French and American oak barrels, Hagafen Cabernet Sauvignon will flourish with bottle age.
