Winemaker Description 

Juan Jurado belongs to a new generation of young winemakers who see potential in the Marco de Jerez region beyond traditional fortified wines. After living away from his native Andalusia for many years (from Sitges to Australia via London), during which time he trained in the world of wine and sommellerie, he decided to return to his roots to start a project focused on authentic wines that reflect the diversity of the Jerez Region beyond Finos and Olorosos.

In 2022, Jurado invested all his savings to purchase a small vineyard in the Miraflores de Sanlúcar estate, along with winemaking equipment including a press, destemmer, casks, and jars to produce his first vintage. This marked the birth of Agrícola Calcárea, a project dedicated to crafting honest wines using minimal yet sufficient intervention to showcase the unique characteristics of each vineyard through classic and ancestral varieties of the Marco region.

The resulting wines are highly aromatic, featuring stone fruit, citrus, and white flower notes, with chalky and salty undertones. On the palate, they are savory and mineral, with a touch of bitterness.

JamesSuckling.com by Claire Nesbitt writes 92 Points | Mocha, chocolate truffles, cassis, oranges and lavender on the nose of this fragrant red. It’s full-bodied, warming and aromatic, filled with ripe blue and orange fruit and accompanied by ripe tannins.

Hand harvested grapes undergo temperature-controlled fermentation.

Each variety is vinified separately, and the wine is transferred to French oak barriques (2-3 years old) with a medium toast. The wine ages for 12 months then rests for about 45 days in cement tanks before being bottled without filtration. Released after 3 months in bottle.

A bright and lemony sipping mezcal with some subtle smoke on the back end. It unfolds layers of fruits, almonds, caramel, and fresh herbal notes in the palate. Winemaker Description.

Vermentino is the star white grape variety of the Tuscan coast, perfectly capturing the feel of an afternoon in the Maremma hills looking out at the Tyrrhenian Sea. Aia Vecchia blends in a small amount of Viognier to add an intriguing hint of tropicality. The aged in stainless steel tanks for four months; aged two months in bottle before release. 

Producer Description 

Akutain’s Rioja Reserva — a blend of Tempranillo with a touch of Garnacha and Viura — is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and fiberglass tanks, then aged for 35 months in predominantly neutral American oak with a small amount of French barrels. Mid-Ruby in color, this Reserva possesses a beautiful bouquet of ripe berry fruit mixed with notes of dried herbs, tobacco and rose petals.

The full-bodied palate displays concentrated flavors of black cherry, cooked-down strawberries and earth balanced by velvety, textured tannins. The finish exhibits enduring depth and complexity. The perfect companion to grilled, roasted or braised meats and game.

The Armato family exclusively uses olives of the Taggiasca variety harvested from an ancient grove planted in the hills just above Alassio. The powerful stone discs work to crush the olives for a prescribed amount of time – just enough to process the olive meat while leaving the pit untouched. The paste that is crafted from the meat of the olive is then deposited onto a handmade rope disc that rotates as the paste piles higher and higher. That paste is then moved to the olive press to extract the oil and juices, which are then separated to produce that glorious, buttery olive oil the Armatos are renowned for. 

This buttery, unfiltered olive oil is made exclusively from Taggiasche olives harvested from trees planted in the hamlet of Stellanello in the hills above the seaside town of Liguria’s Alassio. Harvest occurs from November through March and the oil is cold-pressed in the Armato family’s “frantoio” using the traditional stone mill. The resulting first-press olive oil carries a luscious gold tint with a sweet and subtle fruit taste. It is an ideal and versatile choice; perfect for just about any kitchen.

James Suckling 94 Points | A driven, balanced , flavorful, textural and lively Crozes-Hermitage, showing aromas of dark cherries, spiced plums, wild herbs and warm spices. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins. Superb texture and balance here with a long, succulent and vivid finish. Drink or hold.

Vinous 91+ Points | Fermented with 100% whole clusters, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage displays ripe red fruit tones, stemmy touches and pencil shaving, licorice and cedar aromas. Medium- to full-bodied and fresh, the 2023 is shaping up to be a delicious red Crozes-Hermitage. A long, defined finish wraps it up.

In France’s Northern Rhone Valley, there are few names as revered as Graillot. It was in 1985 that the late, legendary Alain Graillot, who after working with the venerable Jacques Seysses at Domaine Dujac, came back to his home in Crozes-Hermitage to start his own domaine. With each passing year his devotion to the art of making hauntingly delicious Syrah from his organically farmed, stone-laden vineyards, was rewarded with an ever growing and highly dedicated following around the world. Alain’s sons Maxime and Antoine have been in charge since 2008, continuing the legacy set forth by their father. All the work is still completely the same as it ever was: hand-harvesting, organic farming, whole-cluster fermentation, and aging the wines primarily in 1-to-3 year old barrels purchased from some of the top estates in Burgundy.

While this is a fruit-forward Moroccan red, it is made in an OldWorld style with moderate extraction, excellent balance, and complex aromatics: plenty of ripe purple black fruits and dark confiture, with hints of sandalwood.

Alain Jaume Côtes du Rhône Haut de Brun Rouge is a beautiful and elegant wine that showcases the unique character of the Rhône Valley. This wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre that creates a deep red color and multi-layered aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and licorice.

The Wine Spectator 92 Points | A sleek, racy style, with a stony underpinning, along with lemon, apple, earth and celery flavors. There’s viscosity midpalate, and the finish is long. A white with gravitas that needs time. Best from 2027 through 2040.

Jasper Morris 91 Points | Mid lemon yellow, more stone than iodine on the nose, white fruit through the middle. Then greater tension, a little citrus rinse, and a more evident grip than Beugnons. Mostly Epinottes with 10% each from Les Lys and Beugnons. There is a small wood component (10%).

Coming from vines located mainly at the bottom of hillsides and on granite soil, this Pinot Blanc borders on insolence in its elegance and deliciousness. It is very far from the classic style that is often found in Alsatian Pinot Blancs, which is quite simple. Here, Jean Boxler has done a real job in the vineyards as well as in the winemaking where we feel a much finer and more mineral side.

On the palate, the attack is precise, there is, as with his Sylvaner, a beautiful maturity that brings a real delicacy. The wine has a sensual texture, very silky, no aggressiveness emerges.

This is really not just a simple Pinot Blanc, it is extraordinarily long, precise and delicious.

While Albet i Noya was established in 1978, its roots in organic craftsmanship date back to the turn of the twentieth century, when the family’s expertise was already well established. Even though the phylloxera epidemic was at its height when their great-great-grandfather Joan Albet i Rovirosa arrived to work in the vineyards in Sant Pau d’Ordal, he stayed there.

They are one of the few wineries left that labels their bottles with “Classic Penedès” rather than “Cava,” a distinction that indicates the wine was made entirely from grapes cultivated, harvested, and vinified on the estate and matured for at least 15 months before distribution.

A Clàssic Penedès made with Pinot Noir and Garnatxa. Versitile with food, ideal as an appetizer. Aromas of herbs and fresh flowers combined with a background of perfectly fresh red fruit. In the mouth, it is refreshing but at the same time has the complexity of a sparkling wine aged for 15 months.

This is the mantra of Castellano winegrower Alfredo Maestro, a bright light amongst an abyss of industrially farmed, over-ripe, over-oaked, and over-manipulated wine-scape that is the Ribera del Duero these days.   

Alfredo Maesto is a city man, who has become a farmer as a choice and not because of circumstances. He is guided by passion and love, which we find in each of his bottles. His production is mainly of reds (Tempranillo and Garnacha) which can be drank both young and aged; then there’s the LoveAmor, the albillo (white grapes) pure which surprises even the most demanding of tasters. Alfredo Maestro manages some vineyards near Madrid, but mainly in Castilla y Leon, in Penafel in the Ribera near Valladolid (the Spanish Bolgheri), land which has always celebrated the most famous Spanish reds. To process natural wines in this piece of land is like finding yourself on the frontline in the Caporetto battle and yet, Alfredo Maestro, teacher both in name and facts, acting as a righteous Charon he takes on the task of ferrying heretic sommeliers from vanilla wines with shavings icing towards the right way of pure, real wine. Alix crafts this delicious and refined Sancerre Blanc in a gentle, flowery, mineral style. It is generous, yet perfectly balanced with a dry refreshing mineral finish, and it’s a terrific value. Serve with goat’s milk cheese, oysters, shellfish and white fishes, or as a the perfect aperitif.

James Suckling 93 Points | Manzoni bianco is a super fresh grape variety, a valuable resource in view of the rising temperatures in this era of climate change. Aromas of pears, white peaches, lime peel and lemon leaves. It’s soft on the palate, with a silky texture, sharp acidity, peach flavors and a polished finish in spite of its citrus peel aftertaste.

Ruby-red with a purple shimmer. Subtly pronounced on the nose, fresh and fruity, with floral (violet) notes and white pepper. Light-to-medium bodied, well-balanced, soft, and dry on the palate.

Serve with starters, pasta, pizza, white meats and poultry.

The Alois Lageder Schiava 2023 is a signature "mountain red" from one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Alto Adige (Südtirol) region of Northern Italy. Schiava (also known as Vernatsch) is prized for being incredibly light, fresh, and lower in alcohol—essentially the Italian Alpine answer to a light Pinot Noir or Gamay.

Lageder’s expression is specifically noted for its "funky" and "earthy" complexity, which sets it apart from more commercial, purely fruit-driven versions of the grape.
Perfect for "light fare" like lake trout, sautéed mushrooms, or a charcuterie board featuring speck and mild cheeses. It is also an excellent companion for pizza and tomato-based pasta dishes.

James Suckling 92 Points |  Rich and expressive, with blackcurrants, black cherries, mocha, cedar and hints of spices. The full-bodied palate is deep yet bright and focused with a supple texture and lingering ripe berries and savory nuances. Refined and already attractive, but better from 2027.

Decanter Magazine 92 Points | A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot. Half the wine was barrel-fermented in 50% new French oak, while the rest was fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak. Fragrant and packed with sweet red berry fruit, strawberry preserves, and cherry compote, it features gentle, soft tannins that make it very approachable from the pull of the cork. The tannins do build, however, becoming more drying and overarching on the finish, with some of the bright fruit character fading slightly. Nevertheless, this is a lovely wine, best enjoyed with well-salted meats.

The Gran Reserva cavas are bottle-aged for at least 30 months, while the some “collection” cavas has an optimal ageing period of over 10 years. All the grapes are organically farmed, using the local varieties Mataró and Pansa Blanca, and all the bottles are retailed immediately after being disgorged. A passion for cava that has been rewarded with many international prizes.

Sight - Fine bubble and pale yellow with green hues.
Nose - White fruit aromas with delicate citrus and green almond notes.
Palate - On the palate, light and fresh : real expression of the white fruit aromas. Given its ageing over the lies, we can perceive notes of pastry, bubbles well integrated and a delicate aftertaste.

An organic rosé cava, crafted with the Traditional Method and aged on lees for a minimum of 35 months. A gentle skin maceration gives the wine its delicate color. Bearing the seal of Elaborador Integral (Integral Producer), it is made from vines rooted in ‘sauló’, a sandy granitic soil, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Mataró is the most genuine variety in Alella and it is also the name of the Capital of the Maresme area
