Tenuta di Trinoro CAMPO DI CAMAGI Toscana IGT 2020 750ml
Winemaker Notes:
Campo di Camagi is one of the three labels of 100% Cabernet Franc produced by Andrea Franchetti from 2014, who wanted to devote the utmost attention to this historic grape of Bordeaux, enhancing its characteristics in relation to three different terroir of the estate. It is produced exclusively with grapes from a single plot of 1.5 hectares composed of a thin layer of quartz and limestone. The 27 year old vines struggle to grow in this space, the stems do not grow, the roots have filled it.
Expert Reviews
Monica Larner writes: Made with Cabernet Franc, the Tenuta di Trinoro 2020 Campo di Camagi shows a level of sharpness and precision that you don't get as clearly in the other wines in this series of single-vineyard releases. There is more oak spice with redwood and cedar, along with crushed granite and pencil shaving. The wine is linear and delivers big intensity to the palate, and it has the structure and acidity to accompany a long drinking window. Drinking 2024 2045 - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 95+
James Suckling writes: So perfumed with violets and lavender with some currants. Medium- to full-bodied with polish and finesse. Racy and fine. Finesse with drive. Very elegant and straightforward with a racy texture. Very long and lightly edgy. 92% cabernet franc and 8% merlot. Drink after 2027 but already beautiful. - James Suckling 96
Bruce Sanderson writes: A spicy red, featuring a beam of black currant and blackberry fruit shaded by violet, black pepper, iron and mint. Lithe and ends with a line of resonant tannins on the tobacco-tinged finish. Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2038. 166 cases made, 65 cases imported. Wine Spectator 94
Jancis Robinson writes: Racy, lively and a little fragile and delicate. Tense. Drinking 2024 - 2034 - Jancis Robinson 17.5
Roberto Henriquez Tierra de Pumas Pais Secano Interior Bio 2019 750ml
Points Robert Parker | The other new País is the 2019 Tierra de Pumas that comes from three hectares of old vines, the 77th vineyard registered in the zone, so one of the oldest remaining vineyards in Bio-Bio and possibly all of Chile, certainly over 200 years old. The soils are a mixture of granite and quartz with some clay, and the lower parts are more sedimentary, what it's locally called Serie Santa Juana because the vineyard is quite large. This is certainly different from the rest—if it's because of the soil or not is another story, but the vinification and élevage is very similar for all. There is a note that reminds me of blood orange peel and talcum powder, intensely aromatic, almost as if it went through semi-carbonic fermentation (which it did not). When tasted next to the other four País bottlings, this is the one that stands out because it has a different character. 10,000 bottles produced.
Chateau Margaux 1er GCC 2016 750ml 99 pts Wine Enthusiast
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2016
Wine Spectator 97 Points | Beautifully rendered, with a lush and seamless flow of cassis, steeped cherry, warmed raspberry and gently mulled blackberry fruit flavors gliding through. Light lilac, savory, mesquite and mineral accents underline the finish, adding additional texture and length. Deep and long, with sublime definition and gorgeous fruit. Best from 2024 through 2040.
Wine Enthusiast 99 Points | With a rare 94% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, this wine is packed both with black-currant flavors and impressive tannins and acidity. It moves Château Margaux into a new dimension with its dense, dry core of tannins that will power the wine into a seriously long-term future. Best after 2025. Cellar Selection.
Wine Advocate 99 points | Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Château Margaux (blended of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot) sashays out of the glass with glamorous red currants, candied violets, kirsch and crushed blackcurrants scents followed by notions of tilled black soil, forest floor, cast iron pan and cigar box with subtle wafts of lavender and oolong tea. Medium-bodied, mineral laced accents hover over the palate with an ethereal sensation of weightlessness, yet it is super intense with layers of red and black flavors supported by a firm texture of silt-fine tannins, finishing wonderfully fragrant and incredibly long.
Decanter 98 Points | This is a serious Margaux, hugely Cabernet dominant on both nose and palate as you would expect with 94% of the blend. It has an extremely fine, elongated tannic structure, just barely there and so classy, focussing on the gentle elasticity. There are more blue than black fruits here, wonderfully spun out and softened with crushed tobacco. It has the expansive aromatic structure of Margaux, the floral and mineral aspects clear, as is the tension that lifts the palate up and out. It's reminiscent of the 2005, though with less evident tannins. It's not as hefty as the 2010 or as staggering as the 2015, but is still a joyful expression of the estate. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend.
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points | The grand vin 2016 Château Margaux is a beauty and tastes like the essence of Margaux. Thrilling notes of blueberries, cassis, crushed violets, flowery incense, and spice notes all give way to a full-bodied 2016 that strikes an incredible balance between richness and elegance. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot brought up in new barrels, it’s more focused and elegant than the 2015, yet I suspect it’s just as concentrated, and readers are going have a blast comparing these two magical vintages over the coming 4-5 decades.
James Suckling 99 Points | It’s very friendly and warm on the nose showing flowers and red fruit. But then on the palate, it lets you know how serious it is. Full-bodied, yet reserved, extremely tight and well-formed with super polished tannins that go on for minutes. A solid and typical Margaux with all the personality and beauty in strength. Try after 2027.

Wine Enthusiast 94 Points | We think of this as Israeli Chateauneuf-du-Pape, tasted blind it will fool you! Mike DeSimone writes: Blackberry, cassis and toasted nut aromas emanate from the glass. There is a nice bright note of pomegranate underlying Mission fig, eucalyptus, dark chocolate, orange zest and caramel flavors. Luxurious tannins and well-balanced acidity stroll hand in hand into a lengthy finish.
Stadlmann Pinot Noir Organic Thermenregion Austria 2019 750ml
Our Professional Review
Rand Sieger Buyer, 67Wine | This lovely Pinot Noir comes from a 6th generation family winery in the Thermen Region, just a short drive south from Vienna.
Cistercian Monks planted Pinot Noir vines here as early as the 12th century. Aging is done only in old oak barrels to preserve the purity and freshness of the fruit. Aromas and flavors of bright red fruits are accented by a light peppery spice on the finish.
Expert Review
James Suckling 91 Points | I like the smoky, dried-cherry, blackberry and strawberry character and just a hint of dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied, round and flavorful. Drinkable now, but better in 2021.
Winemaker Description
Produced from vines planted well south of the cluster of northern-Thermenregion villages that comprise the majority of their holdings, Stadlmann’s Pinot Noir (called “Blauburgunder” locally) is simultaneously fresh and substantial, offering the textural harmoniousness of their white wines, as well as a lifted and elegant spice character that puts one in the mind of excellent red Burgundy. (After all, it was the Cistercian monks who brought Pinot Noir from Burgundy to the Thermenregion in the late 1100s.) Like the estate’s white wines, this is fermented and aged entirely in large, well-worn oak casks and bottled without fining and with only a gentle filtration.
Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa 2018 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2018
Wine Spectator 93 Points | This is richly layered, with cassis, crushed plum and blackberry puree flavors moving through slowly but steadily, while warm earth, ganache and black licorice notes follow along. Picks up a tarry edge on the finish as the fruit takes an encore. For fans of the muscular, fruit-driven style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2036. (2018).
Wine Advocate 97 Points | The 2018 Insignia is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard sources this year include: 30% Las Rocas (Stags Leap District),18% Yountville (Oak Knoll District), 13% Banca Dorada (Rutherford), 18% Suscol (South Napa Valley), 14% Home Ranch (St. Helena), 12% Las Rocas (Stags Leap District), 7% Barboza (Stags Leap District). It was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes storming out of the glass with powerful notes of blackcurrant cordial, stewed black plums and boysenberries, plus hints of cedar chest, graphite, menthol and wet slate with a fragrant waft of clove oil. The medium to full-bodied palate already demonstrates remarkable balance at this youthful stage, featuring a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins and bold freshness to support the tightly wound, crunchy black fruits, finishing long and spicy. (2018).
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points | Very much in the style of the vintage with its pure, concentrated, yet also elegant and focused style, the 2018 Insignia offers up a vivid purple hue to go with lots of red and blue fruits, menthol, tobacco, graphite, and distinct minerality. With an almost Bordeaux-like style, medium to full-bodied richness, present tannins, and a great finish, it's a beautiful, classic Cabernet Sauvignon blend from this team that's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades or more. (2018).
James Suckling 99 Points | Blackberry and black chocolate with mint, conifer and clove. Sweet tobacco, violets and flowers, too. Some graphite. Cool and complex. Full-bodied with ultra fine, dusty tannins and a wonderful, extremely long finish. Savory and refined. A classic-styled 2018. This needs time, but is so approachable and gorgeous. One of the best Insignias ever. Alive and changing all the time. 40% Stags Leap AVA. 87% cabernet sauvignon, 8% petit verdot, 3% malbec and 2% cabernet franc. Leave this for five or six years, but so wonderful now. (2018).
Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana Organic 2023 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023
James Suckling 98 Points | "Dark and complex wine, earthy and concentrated yet balanced. Vibrant aromas of cassis, violets, licorice, pencil shavings and graphite. Full-bodied, it displays a dynamic palate with dense, velvety tannins, fruit concentration and crisp, integrated acidity, which keeps it in balance. 45% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon, 20% cabernet franc, and 5% petit verdot. Gorgeous now, but even better in two or three years and beyond."
Wine Spectator 95 Points | "This is concentrated with cherry, blackberry, plum, iron, sweet spice and tar flavors. Muscular tannins leave a firm grip on the finish, yet overall, this red feels balanced and crunchy. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2027 through 2040." d'Arenberg Grenache The Derelict Vineyard 2019 750ml
Our Professional Review
Bart Hopkins 67Wine.com | A full bodied, darkly colored Grenache with intense richness and depth of flavor. Aromas of savory red fruits on the nose, with lovely intensity in the mouth, smooth tannins and a delicious long-lasting finish. Powerful, precise and concentrated with no over ripeness. A great wine for hearty dishes and perfect for barbecues.
Winemaker Description
Dark, intense deep purple-crimson in the glass. On the nose: striking notes of rhubarb, raspberry jam and redcurrant. The palate is soft and rich, showing a more full-body style of Grenache. A flow of red cherries, rhubarb and red plums are laced with a fine layer of cedar, introducing more dark-flavored characters like plums and hints of dark chocolate. Texture is firm and finely balanced.
Expert Review
James Suckling 92 Points | An inviting nose of baked cherry, blueberry, moss and bark. Medium- to full-bodied with velvety tannins. Juicy and fresh red and black fruit with savory undertones. Herb and earthy notes ground the palate. A bit of tension here, which I like. Drink or hold.
Sella & Mosca Marchese di Villamarina 2013 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2013
The Wine Advocate 93 Points | The 2013 Alghero Marchese di Villamarina is a pricey wine but it is also an ambitious one. This pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the first wines to put Sardinia on the world wine map. It is a symbol of the soaring aspiration of island viticulture in a modern context (remember, archaeological traces of the Mediterranean's oldest wines were found here). The wine possesses a dark and richly concentrated appearance with lingering aromas of dark fruit, spice and black olive. The mouthfeel is dense and compact with a dry, mineral-driven finish. This is a great wine from a classic vintage.
James Suckling 91 Points | Blackberry, dried-blueberry, dried-herb, earth and some smoked-meat aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, well integrated tannins. Savory and flavorful finish. Drink or hold.
The Wine Spectator 91 Points | Featuring trim tannins, a delicate herbal overtone and a tangy, minerally underpinning, this elegant, medium- to full-bodied red displays a more traditional side, while pure notes of ripe black currant, spice box, citrus and pomegranate provide harmony and pleasure. Drink now through 2025.
Winemaker Description
Rich, majestic red in color. On the nose, intense and mellow with remarkable red fruit fragrances. The palate demonstrates classic flavors of Cabernet with accents of vanilla, black currant, soft grained tannins with a lingering finish.
A match for top quality steaks, red meats, and game.
Allegrini AMARONE della Valpolicella Classico 2020 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2020
James Suckling - 94 Points: "A bold interpretation of Amarone. Refined aromas of licorice, dried cherries, camphor and menthol reverberate across a compact, dense mid-palate. At this early stage, the tannins feel largely oak-derived. But there is nothing blunt about them and there is ample mineral infusion and freshness. Bottle age will serve this rich Amarone well, placating the primary fruit while transforming the wine into something far more complex. Very good. Drink or hold."
Producer's Notes: The result of the Allegrini family’s expertise, a true classic of the appellation, this red wine embraces tradition, territory and the know-how of country ways. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta are left to air dry at least until December and are checked daily to ensure perfectly healthy grapes. Lengthy refining and ageing finally yields a red wine that has become emblematic of Italian oenology, alongside Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino. It has imposing structure and depth, as much in its aromas of mature fruit and spices, as on the palate, where the alcohol is sustained by the right degree of acidity and refined tannins.
Blend: 45% Corvina, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta
Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019 750ml
Winemaker Description
The 2019 Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous expression of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from a superb vintage. Revealing blackberries, black currants, crème de cassis, with hints of espresso, cocoa powder, and fine gravely undertones, this seamless full-bodied wine carries remarkable freshness and purity, delivering up front appeal with long-term potential.
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2019
Jeb Dunnuck 92 Points | Coming mostly from the Oso Vineyard in Pope Valley, but with fruit from sites throughout the Valley, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Petite Sirah that spent 18 months all in French oak. Red and black fruits, spicy herbs, chocolate, and hints of leather all shine here, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a round, layered mouthfeel. (2019).
Robert Parker 91 Points | An offering from Odette, Adaptation's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon features a nice mix of red and black fruits—cherries and cassis—plus hints of vanilla and cedar. It's medium to full-bodied but easy to drink and not overly rich or textured, but it's nicely balanced, with a long, mouthwatering finish.
Antonio Galloni writes: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Adaptation is a rich, bombastic wine from vineyards in Pope Valley. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather and tobacco are front and center. A dollop of Merlot adds mid-palate pliancy and juiciness. This full-throttle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon delivers the goods. - Vinous 91
Carapace Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2019 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2019
James Suckling 90 Points | Real pleasant juiciness to the palate with vibrant red and black fruits, combined with a touch of sweetness. Finishes is a touch drying, but lemony.
Winemaker Description
A deep, luminous ruby red in colour; concentrated and refined. The nose is a triumph of blackberry jam and blueberries–typical of the variety–with attractive and intense notes of cherries in brandy, carob and rose petals. Its traditionally-styled profile is further enhanced by liquorice and chocolate notes. This wine has a distinct creaminess on the palate, along with very powerful, mellow fruit. The finish is long and persistent, with precisely defined tannins of rare finesse, elegance and gentleness.
Family-owned vineyards at Montefalco and Bevagna; a special selection was made of the Estate’s finest historic vines as part of the “Patriarchs Project,” carried out in cooperation with the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all’Adige. The soil is a clay-silt mix with excellent agronomic potential, well-structured and resistant to summer drought. A typical expression of a grape variety that is absolutely unique in terms of power and longevity, this Sagrantino is amazingly mellow, which results from skilful vineyard husbandry and long aging in large oak casks.
The Lunelli family, third generation winemakers at Ferrari Trento DOC have pursued their passion for wine with the creation of Tenute Lunelli, comprised of three wine estates located in three different regions of Italy: Tenuta Castelbuono in Umbria, Tenuta Podernovo in Tuscany, and Villa Margon in Trentino. All three estates have a shared vision of: respect for the diversity, identity, and origin of each territory; complete sustainable and organic environmental protocols and patience as a virtue. Seduced by the allure of the ancient and mystic region of Umbria, the Lunelli Family chose the rolling hills of Perugia as the ideal territory to create the magnificent wines of the Castelbuono. The winery is a realization of sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro and the technical expertise of architect Giorgio Pedrotti. The huge dome covered with copper, marked with a pattern of grooves and cracks, is inspired by a carapace, a tortoise shell. Tenuta Castelbuono has been certified organic since 2014. The wineries Carapace symbol located on the front label, or “shell,” represents the architectural magnum of the winery designer, legendary Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.

Pine Ridge Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023
The Somm Journal 95 Points | This is Pine Ridge’s flagship wine - a workhorse that features some Petite Sirah and sees both French and American oak. Tannins are teeth-kissing versus teeth-grabbing, while power and concentration are exhibited through a satin-lined mouthfeel that’s also juicy and fresh, with dark chocolate, plum, graphite, and sweet soil. The fruit shows balance between depth and restraint.
James Suckling 92 Points | Bright and lifted aromas of blueberries, blackcurrants, violets and raspberry coulis. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, a textural mouthfeel and a finish of licorice, blackberries and bitter chocolate. Succulent and focused. Drink or hold.
Jeb Dunnuck 91 Points | Aged 18 months in 35% new French oak and 15% new American oak, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley sports a saturated purple hue as well as loads of black and blue fruits intermixed with leather, Asian spices, and hints of vanilla. It's medium to full-bodied, ripe, round, and mouthfilling, with sweet tannins and a good finish.
Winemaker Description
Our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a combination of estate fruit from Stags Leap, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford and Carneros, and grapes from select Napa Valley growers with a focus on sourcing around our home in the Stags Leap District.
The 2023 growing season began with heavy winter rain, replenishing our reservoirs and lakes. Bud break was delayed due to a cooler than usual season, typically occurring once every 10 to 15 years. Despite this, we enjoyed a lengthy season with yields from average to 10% above average. With no disease pressure, increased soil water, and extended hang time, 2023 is destined to be legendary. Our vines thrived with healthy canopies, and the grapes ripened slowly, ensuring this “once-in-a-decade” vintage provided fruit that could perform at the apex of quality.
Since our founding in 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards has invested in 160 acres of estate vineyards, 47 of which are in our home appellation, Stags Leap District. The fruit for this vintage was chosen from our premier sites set throughout the Napa Valley including our estates in Stags Leap, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford and Carneros. The 2023 vintage was harvested from September 29th to November 2nd. The grapes were hand-picked at night, carefully sorted in the vineyard, then brought to the cellar and de-stemmed. This meticulous care taken in the vineyard by our Viticulture Director Gustavo Avina and his crew delivered bright, ripe fruit, with substantial mouthfeel and complexity. Following a cold soak, a high-temperature fermentation occurred to ensure maximum flavor and color extraction. The wine was racked to 35% new French oak and 15% new American oak barrels and aged for 18 months prior to bottling. 50% was aged in neutral French Oak to maintain the freshness and elegance of the vintage.

Dominio de Pingus Flor de Pingus 2023 Ribera del Duero 2023 750ml
Expert Review - Vintage 2023
Tim Atkin 95 Points | Peter Sisseck admits that he was worried about the 2023 vintage in La Horra, but is very happy with the finished wine. Combining grapes from five parcels - Barroso, El Castillo, El Pino, Fuentenarro and Fuentes - totalling 49 hectares, Flor is what he calls "our village wine", showing impressive finesse in a hot growing season, succulent tannins, flavours of blackberry, red cherry and ginger spice and a violet top note.
VInous 94-95 Points | The 2023 Flor de Pingus is made from over 20 hectares of old Tinta del País vines and 15 hectares of Garnacha in Ribera del Duero. It was aged in 10–15% new oak. Violets, fresh plum and a delicate touch of oak open on the nose. Fine-grained reactive tannins define the texture. A red with charming nuances and evolving character. (JH)
The Wine Advocate 93-94 Points | The 2023 Flor de Pingus is pretty, juicy, ripe and approachable, less serious than the 2022. It's all really balanced and integrated and has good purity. The wine spent eight months in oak barrels, and in 2023, they introduced six 2,000-liter oak vats for the élevage of part of the wine, which represents around 15% of the volume, where it matured for 12 months. It's an approachable vintage of Flor. All in all, the élevage was a little shorter this year. This should be bottled starting in early May 2025. The expected volume is around 92,000 bottles.
Memo Summary Notes
The Flor de Pingus 2023 is the highly sought-after "second wine" of Dominio de Pingus, the legendary Ribera del Duero estate founded by Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck. While technically a second label, it is often ranked among the top wines in Spain in its own right.
Produced from older vines (35+ years) that are managed with biodynamic viticulture. The goal is to capture the "soul" of Ribera del Duero with more accessibility and freshness than the flagship Pingus.
Pairs magnificently with roasted lamb (a regional classic), Wagyu beef, or complex mushroom dishes.

James Suckling 92 Points | Deeply brooding aromas of blackberries, cassis, plums, cedar and tobacco. The palate is full-bodied with firm tannins and balanced acidity, showing dark cherries, blackcurrants and spices. Concentrated, savory and fresh.
Vinous 91 Points | The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is packed with succulent dark cherry/plum fruit, spice, new leather and chocolate. This juicy Cabernet Sauvignon will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. There is a bit of firmness in the tannin, but that's a small quibble for a wine that offers so much enjoyment.
Memo Summary Notes
The 2022 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon "Howell Mountain" is a highly acclaimed release from one of the most respected estates in Napa Valley’s high-elevation sub-appellations.
The 2022 vintage is noted for being particularly opulent and approachable early on compared to the typically austere mountain Cabernets, though it still retains the significant aging potential characteristic of Howell Mountain.
Manincor der Keil Lago Di Caldaro Schiava Organic Biodynamic 2023 750ml
Winemaker Description
Bright soft-hued ruby. Delicately fruity on the nose reminiscent of cherry and toasted almonds, juicy on the palate, extremely “quaffable” and elegant on the
finish.
Memo Summary Notes
The Manincor "der Keil" Lago di Caldaro 2023 is a benchmark example of Schiava (also known as Vernatsch) from South Tyrol (Alto Adige), Italy. Produced by the Manincor estate—a leader in biodynamic and organic viticulture—this wine is sourced from the historical "der Keil" vineyard (a monopole), where old vines overlook the Lake of Kaltern.
It is often described as the perfect "bridge" wine for those who enjoy the elegance of Pinot Noir but want the crunchy, spicy character of northern Italy.
-
Traditional Pairing: South Tyrolean Speck (cured ham) and local cheeses.
-
Modern Pairing: It is one of the few reds that pairs beautifully with fried fish, tomato-based pasta, or even Cantonese cuisine.
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023
The 2023 vintage is receiving high praise for its focus and "crunchy" fruit:
-
Decanter: 92 Points – "A lightly edgy nose of nutmeg-dusted red fruit... fleshy, balanced palate with juicy raspberry."
-
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points – "Tart cranberries, pomegranate, and red apple skin... delivers a fresh, lively wine with a peppery edge."
Tenuta di Arceno Arcanum "Valadorna" Toscana 2013 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2013
The Wine Advocate 95 Points | The 2013 Valadorna (mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is yet another home run in this blockbuster collection of new releases from Tenuta di Arceno in the southern part of Chianti Classico (Castelnuovo Berardegna). This is a firm and tightly knit expression that is packed tight with black fruit, tobacco, tar and dark chocolate. The wine shows enormous aromatic intensity, but then it slims down just a touch in the mouth to offer an elegantly tapered finish.
Decanter 94 Points | Compared to the older and warmer 2011, which is a bit rustic and jammy, this 2013 is a fairly classic vintage for Merlot. It was harvested in September, marking a return to the usual picking dates. The percentage of the Merlot here reaches 74% of the blend, in order to maximise its fleshy character in a relatively cool year. The nose is evolved yet with an amazing complexity of tobacco, earthy tones, clean leather and balsamic depth. On the palate cassis fruit melds with leather and spices, supported by polymerised tannins and natural refreshing acidity. - Decanter Magazine, February 2021
James Suckling 94 Points | Very intense nose of blackberries, dark chocolate, sandalwood, vanilla, treacle and tar. Full-bodied with plenty of dark fruit, but lots of black-olive undertones and bright acidity keep this fresh, while firm tannins carve out an elegant, polished shape. Drink in 2021.
Memo Summary Notes
The Tenuta di Arceno "Valadorna" 2013 is a powerhouse Super Tuscan that represents the "Right Bank" Bordeaux style of the estate. While the flagship Arcanum focuses on Cabernet Franc, Valadorna is a Merlot-led blend sourced from the coolest, sandiest blocks of the estate in the southern Chianti Classico zone (Castelnuovo Berardegna).
As of late 2025, the 2013 vintage is considered a "Classic" and "Elegantly Tapered" expression, currently at its absolute peak drinking window.
-
Food: This is a "Meat Wine." It pairs perfectly with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, herb-crusted roast beef, or wild boar ragù.
-
Cheese: Aged Pecorino Toscano or a sharp Parmigiano-Reggiano.
ZD Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2022 750mL
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2022
The Wine Enthusiast by Elaine Chukan Brown writes 92 Points | Generous and energetic, this Cabernet Sauvignon joins flavors of baked cherries and cranberries with a sprinkle of spice, vanilla and mocha cream, and almost-tobacco spices. Fine, persistent tannins carry through a long finish.
Winemaker Description
The 2022 growing season began with a mild spring that warmed into a temperate summer. The certified-organic grapes for this 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon matured smoothly and steadily, with a heat spike in early September that helped ripen the fruit to an ideal brix.
95 Points, Double Gold Medal
San Francisco Int'l Wine Competition, 2025
94 Points, Platinum Medal
Monterey Wine Competition, 2025
Gold Medal Pacific Rim Int'l Wine Competition, 2025
Following ZD’s signature style of producing big, ripe, fruit-forward wines, we sourced the grapes from small, organically certified vineyards, each with its own unique “terroir.” Each vineyard lot was fermented separately in small open-top fermenters and punched down three times a day, ensuring a gentle but effective extraction of color and tannins.
The individual lots were then aged in small American Oak cooperage for a year until final blending. The wine was returned to barrel and aged for an additional year before bottling.
This wine has a beautiful, deep ruby color with nuanced aromas blending cassis, anise, cola, black cherry pie, and subtle hints of baking spices complemented with cedar and vanilla. On the palate, red and dark fruits are forward and bright with fine, well-integrated tannins that gives it an unctuous mouthfeel. Lingering hints of blackberry, cocoa and toasty vanilla round out the long, lush finish. The balance of this wine leads to it drinking wonderfully now and it will continue to develop more complexity with age.
Produttori del Barbaresco PAJE Barbaresco Riserva 2020 750ml
Audrey Frick - Jeb Dunnuck - 96 Points | The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Paje pours a deeper red hue and is polished on the nose with aromas of black cherries candied berries polished leather sweet herbs and balsamic herbs. Usually this site has a brighter more floral character but here it has a bit more richness with an outstanding balance of savoriness velvety textured tannins and dark stony underpinnings seamlessly weaving together through the long finish. It's an exceptional wine in this vintage and should have a wide window for enjoyment over the coming 20 years.
Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media - 95 Points | The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is a classic wine from this site. Deeply spiced and balsamic notes meld into a core of dark, sepia-toned Nebbiolo fruit. A Barbaresco of real presence and substance, the Pajè makes itself felt. It's one of my early dark horse favorites in this range from Produttori del Barbaresco. (Drink between 2025-2035).
Bruce Sanderson - Wine Spectator - 94 Points | The 2020 Pajé is rich even sumptuous offering cherry raspberry blood orange and floral notes squarely more on the fruity side than savory. Fleshy firm and long underscored by dense tannins. Bruce Sanderson This is all about power and structure with cherry blackberry earth wild herb and tar flavors buoyed by a dense matrix of tannins. The fruit is there peeking through the maze briefly before the tannins take hold on the finish; never obtrusive they drive the lingering finish.
Monica Larner - The Wine Advocate - 93 Points | The Pajè vineyard faces the Tanaro River and is tucked at back of a narrow theater of vines. The site is often characterized by a floral note of rose and violet that comes thought nicely in the Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè. With those sweet floral notes comes an open-knit mouthfeel and a more immediate drinking style with soft silky tannins. In fact this was the second of nine wines served in a flight that started with the lightest Riservas and ended with the most powerful wines.
Kerin O'Keeffe - 95 Points | The 2020 Pajè Riserva is a beautiful wine starting with its enticing scents of dog rose, violet, eucalyptus, new leather and white pepper. A bit firmer than Pora, the savory palate delivers juicy red cherry, strawberry compote, blood orange and wild herb before an almost salty finish. Fine-grained tannins provide.
Produttori del Barbaresco OVELLO Barbaresco Riserva 2020 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2020
Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media - 95 Points | The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a massive, packed wine. Graphite, crushed rocks, dried herbs and cedar open first. Ovello tends to produce a more linear style of Barbaresco, and that is very much the case here as well. However, the 2020 also possesses notable depth and layers in the mid-palate. It's a gorgeous wine in the making. (Drink between 2025-2035)
Monica Larner - The Wine Advocate - 95 Points | The Ovello vineyard has some northern exposures and generally represents a cooler growing site. You can expect intense fruit flavors and more prominent tannins as a result. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello fits the bill. Vine growth starts much later and usually lasts longer to produce dark intensity and bold aromas in the wines. In the cold years, the tannins can be aggressive, but in the hot years like 2020, they show better balance. This wine offers ferrous notes of iron and rusty nail followed by cherry-driven sweetness.
Bruce Sanderson - Wine Spectator - 95 Points | The 2020 Ovello boasts pure cherry and raspberry fruit plus accents of white pepper herbs and mineral. Deep rich and broad shouldered it builds to a long finish with fine grip and energy. Aromas and flavors of hay cherry raspberry and rose are the hallmarks of this elegant succulent red. A fine layer of tannins provides lift and the flavors are well-delineated through the mineral-infused finish. Shows terrific intensity and tension.
Audrey Frick - Jeb Dunnuck - 95 Points | The nose of the 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello offers a more woodsy profile with aromas of pine leather black raspberries sweet floral perfume and licorice candies. The palate is compact and nervous with dark mineral accents refreshing ripe acidity and a long finish. It is going to benefit from another couple of years and show its best over the following 10 although I wouldn't be surprised to see it evolve for 15-20 years either."
Decanter Magazine - 94 Points | Ovello is by far Produttori del Barbaresco's most important cru. Eleven members cultivate 20 hectares on both sides of the ridge: southeast- and southwest-facing. Exposed to the cold air from the north with calcareous soil rich in clay it typically gives a robust potently structured expression. While true to its terroir the 2020 harnesses some of that power making for a harmonious though sturdy whole. Grilled herbs savory dark earth and dense and ripe dark cherry are all held together by well fastened chalky tannins. This is one for the cellar.
Kerin O'Keeffe - 95 Points | Red berry forest floor new leather and spice shape the fragrant nose on the fantastic 2020 Ovello Riserva. Showing the structure derived from the cru's predominately clayey soils it has a backbone of firm but refined tannins that accompany juicy Marasca cherry tangerine and spicy notes of star anise."

Jeb Dunnuck 91 Points | Spicy, herbal, black cherry, and leather-like notes all emerge from the 2022 Merlot, a medium-bodied, juicy, plump, incredibly satisfying, and delicious Merlot. It has ripe tannins and integrated acidity.
Vinous 91 Points | The 2022 Merlot is packed with blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, espresso, menthol and tobacco. This full-bodied, potent Merlot packs a huge punch. Then again, this is 2022.
The Wine Advocate 90 Points | Pride's 2022 Merlot includes 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Red and black cherries lead the way on the nose, joined by hints of coffee and chocolate. In the mouth, this is full-bodied, plush and velvety yet retains decent acidity and reveals ample length on the finish.
Winemaker Description
Generous would be an understatement in describing the fruit of the 2022 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot. The opulence and finesse of this wine beautifully showcase mountain fruit at its best. Blackberries dominate the first impression before unfurling into attractive aromas of black cherry and ripe plum, carefully accented by hints of bay and chocolate, with a touch of sage. The juicy, ripe fruit makes for a mouth-watering first sip, but is kept at heel by its considerable tension, owing to the playful interchange of its balanced acidity and supple tannin structure. It is those traits that linger, providing a long, luxurious finish. It is stunning now and will continue to impress for years to come.

Wine and Soul Pintas Douro 2022 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2022
The Wine Advocate 95 Points | The more backward 2022 Pintas has the nose of a dry Port, all violets, ripe plums and aromatic herbs, with plenty of spices, toast and smoke from the élevage in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, for 20 months. It needs time to integrate the oak and polish the tannins.
James Suckling 95 Points | Abundant dark fruit with touches of blueberries, delicate violets and graphite on the nose. On the palate it is fleshy and medium- to full-bodied, perfectly balanced by a refreshing spark of acidity that carries through to a clean, bright finish. Supple tannins. The Wine Spectator 94 Points | Bursting with brambly boysenberry and blueberry fruit flavors and fragrant notes of mountain herbs, graphite and woodsy spices, this fresh, focused red shows concentration and length in an appealing, medium-bodied frame. There's a chalky feel to the integrated tannins, providing fine structure through the finish, which echoes fruit and spice elements, with a salty, iron-laced tang. Classy. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Rufete. Drink now through 2035.

Wine & Soul is the joint project of husband and wife Jorge Serôdio Borges and Sandra Tavares da Silva. They bought an old port warehouse in the Vale de Mendiz in the heart of the beautiful Pinhão valley in 2003.
The project is called Pintas, after their dog, a Pointer. The estate is 6 hectares of which only 2.5ha are under vine, there is also an olive grove. The average age of the vines is over 70 years, and is planted with over 30 different varieties. The wine making is traditional but carefully done as you would expect from a couple that are both qualified Oenologists, Sandra is winemaker for Cristiano van Zeller and her family property Quinta de Chocapalha, whilst Jorge used worked as a wine maker for Dirk Niepoort and is currently winemaker at Passadouro and several other projects.
The harvest was planned for the second week of September in perfect weather conditions. All grapes previously selected and de-stemmed were foot trodden in stone lagares during all the fermentation process (10 days). The aging and malolactic fermentation was developed in french oak barrels during 20 months.

Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Bousselots 2020 750ml
Winemaker Description
Siituated just below premier cru Aux Argillas on the slope in northern Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Bousselots provides an impressive showcase for the vigorous minerality typical of this village. Drag farms a half-hectare parcel of Bousselots that abuts the well-regarded premier cru Les Chaignots to its immediate north, and this bottling possesses a murmuring stony intensity which contrasts the often-floral character of its immediate neighbors. Notes of bright red fruits, warm leather, and dark dust orbit a core of iron-like mineral enormity, and its sinewy, densely concentrated palate promises plenty of positive evolution.
Expert Review - Vintage 2020
Allen Meadows Burghound writes 91 Points | Ripe but cooler aromas include those of plum liqueur, black raspberry and airy floral nuances. There is excellent energy to the delicious and nicely detailed flavors that exude evident minerality on the borderline rustic, youthfully austere and balanced finale where the only nit is a subtle hint of warmth that doesn't really detract from the overall sense of harmony. Note that this dusty and moderately austere effort could use more depth so this will require at least mid-term cellaring.
Finca Valpiedra Rioja Garnacha Petra de Valpiedra 2019 750ml
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2019
The Wine Advocate 92 Points | The young, creamy and juicy 2019 Petra is pure Garnacha that fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured in well-seasoned, neutral oak barrels for 15 months, including malolactic. There is a lactic touch and some notes of cereals here that interferes a bit with the purity of Garnacha. It's medium-bodied and has moderate ripeness at 13.5% alcohol, revealing good freshness and acidity and a pH of 3.6.
The Wine Enthusiast 92 Points | Deep garnet in color, this single-varietal Garnacha has a nose of black cherry, caramel and nutmeg. Bright fruit and soft baking spice flavors wrapped in silky tannins enliven the palate and drift into a cranberry and orange-zest finish.
Vinous 92 Points | The 2019 Petra de Valpiedra is 100% Garnacha sourced from a single vineyard next to the Ebro River, in the Cenicero area of Rioja Alta. Aged for 1nine months in American and French oak barrels, it displays a garnet hue and presents aromas reminiscent of liqueur, with hints of herbs and ash overlaying a fruit layer. On the palate, it is dry and edgy, with tannins that are fairly searing, leaving a lingering impression of balsamic notes.
James Suckling 92 Points | Aromas of baked raspberries and strawberries with spicy and earthy touches. Medium- to full-bodied with powdery tannins and a soft texture. Firm finish. Drink or hold.
