Winemaker Description

Our Hito red wine is versatile-made wine. It is the youngest range of red wines from Bodegas Cepa 21, but it is already going strong. It's just what was needed... a young wine that completes the circle for this modern and innovative winery. Its name refers to the stone posts which were set in the ground to mark boundaries. It's made from the youngest vines but with grafts taken from the most emblematic vines of Bodegas Emilio Moro. This is reflected in its combination of nuances, its modernity and the elegance that is noticeable in each glass.

It appears a lovely Picota cherry colour with violet hues on the rim. A mature and complex nose, dominated by the aromas of black berry fruits, liquorice, violets and fine toasting. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and has well-polished tannins; rounded, pleasant and luscious. Hints from the barrel (vanilla) coat the fruit that's both juicy and fresh, a true reflection of the altitude at which these grapes grow. A long and balanced aftertaste, driven by touches of spicy fruit.

Winemaker Description 

This Gruner Veltliner from Gobelsburg is a classic representation of the variety, originating from the Kamptal region of Austria. The wine displays a pale yellow hue, and the aroma is filled with green apple, citrus, and a hint of white pepper.

The palate enjoys a burst of lemon, lime, and a touch of spice, complemented by a crisp acidity and a refreshing finish, making it an excellent choice for light dishes, salads, and seafood.

Producer Description 

Hillside vineyards are special. So is the wine that is crafted from them. French oak beautifully transforms intense mountain fruit into a wine with uncommon richness and a smooth and luxurious texture. Rich aromas of black currant, cherry, and cassis with hints of vanilla and cedar. 

Winemaker Description

This hand harvested, 100% Malbec wine is from multiple vineyards in the Uco Valley. The wine predominantly shows notes of coffee, blueberry, and chocolate with secondary notes of licorice, black cherry, cinnamon, baking spices, and sage.

The complexity of the wine extends into the palate by being big and bold without being flabby, with smooth tannins and light acidity. The wine finishes extremely strong with plum, cassis, doughnut cake, and fine silky tannins. A wine that out delivers it’s price by tenfold!

A richly flavored red with autumnal aromas, plush red/black fruits and peppery spice. Few other Provençal reds can match the power and grace of this bottle (its form a traditional Normandy "Calvados" shape that only Gourgonnier uses).

Pair with grilled steak, lamb and richly flavored cheeses.

It is very full in the mouth with a splendid bubbly sensation that fills the whole palate. Red fruit also appears, even more markedly in the nose. Long finish and great elegance.

Jeb Dunnuck writes:  The 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Domaine Du Vieux Lazaret Blanc is a classic blend of 59% Clairette, 35% Grenache Blanc, 5% Bourboulenc, and the rest Roussanne. This vibrant, well-made, medium-bodied white has a great nose of crushed lemon and lime fruit as well as mint, garrigue, and sappy flower-like nuances. Cuma Malbec is NOP certified organic. Terroir: Sourced entirely from estate vineyards high in Argentina’s northwest Andes. This extreme elevation lends itself perfectly to organic viticulture. Hot days, cool nights, lack of rainfall and a dry shallow soil allow for minimal human interference to the natural growth cycle of the vines. Vinification: All organic practices are carried over from vineyard to winery where the wines are carefully handled throughout the entire vinification process.

Cuma is produced to be drunk young, therefore little oak is used in the winery; instead the wines are aged at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks in an effort to showcase their natural complexity and deep fruit flavors.

Sharp, lively red with violet hues. Intense legs reflect the wine structure, dying the glass like shiny cherries. Aromas of plum marmalade typical of Malbec combine with raisins, vanilla and hints of rosemary. Fruity on the palate, soft with pleasantly sweet tannins

Classic McLaren Vale Shiraz. Crimson-purple in color. Aromas of dark plum, boysenberries, subtle black pepper and a touch of licorice. On the palate is where the wine becomes fascinating. Rich and opulent black plums, blackberries and boysenberries are intertwined with savory spices, mocha and a plush coat of red cherries. Tannins are ripe and velvety. Acidity, alcohol and oak are finely tuned, and their balance enhances length on the finish.

91 Points Wine Enthusiast | Savory notes of sage and bay leaf are as forward on the nose as the plum and cherry notes. There’s a lick of vanillin oak showing, too. The abundance of tangy fruit continues its journey in the mouth, lingering on the finish amidst a powerful, well-placed frame of tannins. (2021).

90 Points James Suckling | Good shiraz, strongly regional, aromatic and attractive. While I query the dryness of the tannins here, there is ample pleasure to be found behind a veneer of violets, purple pastilles, blue fruit, iodine and licorice. A little reduction creates tension without ever becoming too hard. (2021).

The wines are deep purple, fleshy, velvety and freely giving with black berry fruits on the nose and palate. Granite-based sites with ancient alluvial deposits, some sandy soils, with fair amount of clay. Sits on the bedrock of the region’s famously volcanic blue stone. Semi-carbonic vinification in cement. Aged in cement. FOOD PAIRINGS: smoked salmon, baked eggs, roasted turkey, mushroom-and-ham quiche.

Domaine du Clos du Fief is run by our friend Michel Tête, with his son Sylvain working alongside. This is a rare 4th generation Cru estate in Juliénas and Julie, based at the far Northwest sector of Beaujolais. The history of these great villages dates back more than 2,000 years and trace their names to Julius Caesar. Vines were grown on the high altitude hillsides of Juliénas and Jullié (a granite rich Beaujolais-Villages Cru that mimics its more famous neighbor) in the Gallo-Roman period. Michel took over this history-rich land after studying in Beaune, where he learned many techniques that he now uses on his own wines to great acclaim. Michel harkens his wines back to the classics: low yields, meticulously farmed vineyards, and classic winemaking resulting in serious and mouthwatering examples of terroir driven reds.

Screw cap.  James Suckling 92 Ann Krebiehl MW writes:  The 2022 Riesling is picked mainly in Wachenheim and Ruppertsberg with a little Deidesnheim. About a third was fermented spontaneously in Doppelstück, the rest in stainless steel, partly spontaneous, partly with their own isolated yeast strain. The nose initially is a double take of apple juice: intense, fruity, bright, then a hint of yeast follows, settling on pear and lemon. The palate has real tension and freshness. It's salty, apple-juicy and concentrated, yet bone-dry with proper tension. (Bone-dry)  Drinking 2023 -2035.  Vinous 90

Stephan Reinhardt writes:  Sourced in Wachenheim and Ruppertsberg, the 2022 Riesling Trocken is intensely yellow in color and offers saline notes of yellow and green apples intertwined with finely stony aromas. Very elegant and with lush, refined fruit, this is a substantial dry Riesling with moderate body and a stringent and still young but promising finish with muscles. This should be cellared for another year, if possible, or open the bottle a day or two before you consume it to let it breathe. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Allan Meadows writes:  Very pretty, even perfumed, and highly expressive nose freely reveals its aromas of plum, dark gamay and a plenitude of spice elements. The delicious, round and pliant middleweight flavors possess good vibrancy that carries over to the dusty, slightly raspy and ever-so-mildly drying finish where a hint of warmth slowly emerges. This is attractive in its fashion though it would be fair to observe that the balance isn't perfect. Even so, for $19 it still represents fair value.  - Burghound

Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate writes 93 Points | The 2020 Chardonnay Willamette Valley was matured for 10 months in 25% new French oak. It has youthful aromas of yellow peach and apples, cashews, toast and creamy undertones. The medium-bodied palate features generous, layered flavors delivered in an alluringly creamy texture. It has a foil of bright acidity and a long, energetic finish.  Drinking 2024 - 2034.

Audrey Frick of JebDunnuck.com writes 91 Points |  The 2020 Chardonnay Willamette Valley is fresh with aromas of crushed oyster shell, lime zest, and pear. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe green apple on the mid-palate, a mineral texture, and refreshing citrus peel on the finish. It is delicious now, with an Old World Chablis-inspired application. Drink it now or over the next 6 or so years.  Drinking 2022 - 2028.

Medium bodied right bank Bordeaux with heavy tannins and a dry finish. Dark fruit flavors of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry are balanced with oak, earth, bramble and graphite notes.

Ménage à Trois Red Blend brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top you’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The Wine Advocate 90 Points | Significantly impacted by its elevated Syrah content, Guigal's 2020 Cotes du Rhone boasts expressive aromas of blackberries and blueberries, backed by ample black cherries. It's full-bodied yet supple and fluid, easy to drink and enjoy, with enough black olive and earth notes to ground it and keep it from being a simple fruit bomb.

Decanter 90 Points | Modern, lifted and a bit heady, but attractive and evocative. Black cherry inkiness segues into a dense palate where all the fruit is crammed into a structured body with drying tannins. Herbs and stones hemmed in by a firm grip. A good all rounder.

Deep and dark red. On the nose intensely aromatic, with black fruits and spices. The palate is full, round and sexy. Round and smooth tannins present through the full bodied, ample wine. The Côtes-du-Rhône Reserve is more serious effort than the regular Côtes-du-Rhône bottling that showcases the estate’s ability to marry richness with finesse. Moderately tannic and endowed with a beautiful structure, this Côtes-du-Rhône develops greedy notes of fresh fruit (crushed strawberry, blackberry) on their crunchiness, supported by a hint of licorice.

Domaine d’Andezon is one of the member-estates of Les Vignerons d’Estezargues and is unique in the region. While most of the vineyards in the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Signargues are heavier clays covered with up to a meter of galets formed at the same time as the famed plateaux of galets in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this isn’t the terroir at Andezon. 

Instead, it is a fine pale sandy and chalky soil that favors Syrah (comprising 90-95% of Andezon in most vintages) in this hot and windy region by giving it an herbal lift and bright acidity.
