Vincent Charlot's Le Fruit de ma Passion Extra Brut 2020 is an exceptional, small-production Grower Champagne that beautifully captures the individuality of its terroir and the meticulous craftsmanship of its winemaker. Produced exclusively from two biodynamically farmed vineyard parcels, La Genette and La Chapotte, in the village of Mardeuil, this single-vintage Champagne is a blend of 55% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Noir.
The vineyards' diverse clay-limestone, flint, and chalk soils contribute distinctive mineral character and complexity. Grapes are harvested by hand, gently pressed, and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in neutral French oak barrels. Following approximately 10 months of barrel maturation, the wine undergoes extended aging on the lees in bottle, developing remarkable depth, finesse, and texture. A minimal Extra Brut dosage preserves its natural freshness and purity.
Tasting Notes: Beautifully expressive and wonderfully layered, the 2020 opens with enticing aromas of fresh citrus, orchard fruit, delicate flowers, saffron, and subtle baking spices. Notes of nutmeg, white pepper, toasted brioche, almonds, and gently seasoned oak emerge with aeration. The palate is generous and beautifully rounded, combining creamy richness with vibrant acidity and a precise mineral backbone. The long, elegant finish reveals lingering citrus, spice, and savory complexity.
About the Winemaker: Vincent Charlot is a passionate artisan dedicated to producing authentic, terroir-driven Champagnes. Working with a mosaic of small vineyard parcels cultivated organically and biodynamically, he vinifies individual plots separately to preserve their distinctive characteristics.
