Luigi Fanti is the 5th generation owner of the farm located on a windswept hill overlooking the Sant' Antimo Abbey, a couple of kilometers southeast of the town of Montalcino. Luigi, his wife and two sons are completely hands-on, managing every aspect of the growing cycle and vinification process to produce the highest quality wine using natural and organic methods. The wines are made in a very traditional and elegant style, using only large oak for aging.

Wines made from the Sangiovese grape are well adapted to good basic food pairings and serve a very useful purpose at the dinner table, especially one that is as well made as Ventolaio’s 2021 Sentiero del Fante. Dark, savory fruit greets the nose with welcome fanfare and aromatic depth. Rich yet energetic in the mouth, with dark cherry fruit and Tuscan spice is at the center of attention with that certain balance and expressive complexity that tastefully engages what’s on the table with delicious agility. It’s a natural with pizza and pasta, but don’t be afraid to get creative; this is a wine that will enhance a spectrum of flavors and textures. This is what Sangiovese does at its best!

"Dried spices, earth, iron and orange peel on the nose follow through to a nicely firm palate with solid tannins and a savory, zesty finish. Lots of spiced oranges at the end. Unfiltered. Drink now."
