Tommasi · Rafael Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC · 2023
Tommasi Rafael Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2023 is an elegant, balanced Veneto red with vibrant cherry and plum fruit, a supple texture and refreshing acidity. This single-vineyard wine expresses the character of historic Valpolicella Classica through refined structure and freshness, continuing the Tommasi family’s winemaking tradition dating to 1902.
Named for the Rafael vineyard on Monte Masua, the first vineyard acquired by the Tommasi family, the wine holds a special place in the estate’s heritage. The vines are cultivated using the traditional Pergola Veronese training system, encouraging their characteristic elegance and aromatic complexity.
Winemaking
A traditional blend of 60% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 15% Molinara undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation with 12 days of maceration. Fifteen months in large Slavonian oak casks develop complexity while preserving the purity and freshness of the fruit.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby red in color, the 2023 vintage opens with ripe cherries, fresh plums and red berries, complemented by delicate floral notes and subtle herbs. The medium-bodied palate is supple and velvety, layering red cherry, dark fruit, licorice and gentle black pepper. Refreshing acidity, polished tannins and a savory, lightly spiced finish bring harmony and balance.
