Casisano · Rosso di Montalcino DOC · 2024
Tommasi Casisano Rosso di Montalcino 2024 is a vibrant, elegant Tuscan red that brings together Sangiovese’s bright fruit, refreshing acidity and supple tannins. Produced at the historic Casisano estate, part of Tommasi Family Estates since 2015, it offers Montalcino’s freshness, finesse and distinctive personality in a youthful, approachable style.
Set in the southeastern hills of Montalcino at approximately 480 meters above sea level, Casisano’s well-ventilated vineyards enjoy southeastern exposure, significant temperature variations and stony soils rich in galestro, the schistous clay associated with Tuscany’s vineyards. These conditions encourage slow, even ripening while preserving Sangiovese’s natural acidity and aromatic purity.
Winemaking
Crafted from 100% estate-grown Sangiovese Grosso, the wine undergoes traditional fermentation with approximately 12 days of skin maceration. Eight months in large Slavonian oak casks and a further six months of bottle aging develop structure and complexity without overshadowing its bright fruit and youthful freshness.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant ruby red in color, the 2024 vintage opens with ripe red cherries, raspberries, juicy plums and delicate violet aromas. Savory herbs, sweet spice and earthy undertones add depth.
The medium-bodied palate is lively and balanced, with fresh cherry and red berry flavors joined by plum, delicate spice and savory nuances. Supple tannins and refreshing acidity create a harmonious texture and a clean, persistent, fruit-driven finish. Often considered Brunello di Montalcino’s younger sibling, Rosso di Montalcino expresses the region with a more immediate, accessible personality. This Casisano combines traditional Tuscan elegance with versatility for everyday meals and special occasions alike.
Expert Review
James Suckling, 90 Points · Vintage Not Specified: A savory and inviting Sangiovese displaying notes of cured meat, chocolate, dark cherries and raspberries. Medium-bodied, juicy and fluid on the palate, with supple fruit and an appealing, smooth finish.
