Tempo d’Angélus Bordeaux 2024 brings the expertise of the Château Angélus team to a more approachable expression of Bordeaux. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it is conceived to offer depth, complexity and precision without the extended cellaring associated with the estate’s grand wines.
The de Boüard de Laforest family draws on eight generations of winemaking in Saint-Émilion. For Tempo, vines grow on clay-limestone slopes in Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, Castillon-la-Bataille and Sainte-Colombe, a few kilometres from Saint-Émilion. Angélus acquired these plots in 2017 specifically to create a wine under the Bordeaux appellation.
Producer Description
Angélus
Tempo d’Angelus has been created as a more streamlined version of its illustrious older siblings, Château Angelus and Carillon d’Angelus, with which it shares their characteristic depth and complexity, while offering at the same time a more approachable aspect. Produced from the great Angelus terroirs and made with the expertise of the estate’s teams, Tempo d’Angelus will offer demanding wine lovers an attractive, well-structured, precise and hedonistic wine that doesn’t require 15 or 20 years of cellaring to be enjoyed at its peak, as is often the case for the Grand Cru wines.
Winemaking & Identity
Tempo d’Angélus is vinified in a cellar designed specifically for the cuvée within Chai Carillon at Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, combining modern technology with the Angélus team’s expertise. The label echoes its older siblings, displaying the emblematic Angélus bell in a swinging movement to convey the wine’s distinctive “tempo.”
Food Pairing Suggestions

Expert Reviews - Prior Vintage 2019
James Suckling writes: A delicious, savory red with blackcurrant, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied with fine, round tannins. Fresh and bright. It opens at the end and becomes chewy and intense. Give this two or three years to soften, but it’s already focused. Try after 2023. - James Suckling 93
Georgina Hindle writes: Rustic nose, a hint of perfume, but focuses on vanilla, clove and liquorice. Lovely texture in the mouth with chewy tannins around deep, soft and smooth red fruits, cooling menthol and spiced wood notes at the back. Precise winemaking on show, all quite detailed and in balance. 40% new oak, the rest aged in steel tanks. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Drinking 2023 -2035 - Decanter 91
Jane Anson writes: The plots of vines for this new wine from the Angélus team are entirely in Castillon but bottled under AOC Bordeaux. Lots of cool clay and limestone, with correspondingly sculpted blueberry fruits. Cool fermentation helps keep the focus on fruit and freshness, this is enjoyable and no need to wait to drink. 40% new oak. - Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux
Lisa Perrotti-Brown writes: The 2019 Tempo d'Angélus is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it skips out of the glass with exuberant scents of stewed red and black plums, kirsch and raspberry leaves, with suggestions of cracked black peppercorns, dusty soil and bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy fruited, featuring savory accents and bags of freshness, finishing with a peppery kick.- Robert Parker Wine Advocate
