Mauro Molino Barbera d’Alba — Piedmont 2024
Mauro Molino is a respected name in the Langhe, producing wines that express the character of Piedmont’s finest terroirs with precision and authenticity. This Barbera d’Alba is sourced from the family’s maternal side — roughly 35-year-old vines planted in the sandy soils of Roero, across the Tanaro River from the Barolo heartland. Aged entirely in stainless steel to preserve the grape’s natural vibrancy, it is a textbook expression of what Barbera does best: bright, juicy, and immediately satisfying.
The wine pours a brilliant, transparent magenta. The nose opens with marasca cherries, crushed flowers, and fresh herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, refreshing structure, and a light herbal spice on the finish — cherry tart and bitter almond rounding things out with a hint of earth. Enjoy slightly chilled for maximum pleasure.
Bart Hopkins of 67 Wine says with its succulent cherry fruit and earthy complexity, Barbera has a unique, almost magical ability to complement a dazzling array of flavors and food combinations. Martina Molino’s 2024 Barbera d’Alba, made from estate grown vines averaging 35 years of age, is full and robust with generous flavors of red berries and ground spices. Well balanced with sturdy yet supple tannins and a good lift of refreshing acidity on the finish. The perfect red for pizza and beyond!
