Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc Alexander Valley 2025 offers a bright, aromatic expression of Sonoma County. Citrus, white nectarine, pear and floral notes meet a medium-to-light texture and balanced acidity, making it an inviting white for the table.
Founded in 1977 by Sandra MacIver, with Merry Edwards as its first winemaker, Matanzas Creek has spent more than four decades developing its Sonoma County winemaking legacy. Its work has included helping establish the Bennett Valley AVA, advancing clonal research and mentoring winemakers.
Winemaker Marcia Torres Forno draws on her Chilean roots and an exacting approach to aromatics. Across the winery’s Sauvignon Blanc program, vineyard blocks are picked at different times to capture citrus, stone-fruit, tropical and floral characteristics, with stainless steel tanks, concrete eggs and oak barrels used to preserve and develop those aromas. The winery also produces Merlot and limited quantities of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, Bordeaux-style red blends and sparkling wine.
Expert Review · Vintage 2025

Expert Reviews - Prior Vintage 2023, 2022
Tasting Panel 93 Points | Impressively intricate but still harmonious, this is a fine example of the trend toward increasing complexity in California Sauvignon Blanc. The use of multiple clones (plus a 3% dash of Sémillon) and a variety of vessels for fermentation and aging results in an interesting mix of aromas and flavors of pear, melon, and citrus, with hints of dried herbs and wildflowers. (Vintage 2023).
Jeb Dunnuck 91 Points | The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County is a pale silver/green hue and includes the small addition of 3% Semillon, with 13% of the wine fermented in old French oak. It shows off lifted aromas of white grapefruit zest, piney fresh herbs, white currants, and saline. Midweight and refined, it floats on the palate and has a delicate floral touch, with fresh acidity, although it’s not austere. (Vintage 2023).
Wine Spectator 90 Points | Exuberant and refreshing, featuring juicy Fuji apple, peach and ripe melon flavors that complement the core of lemon and pomelo notes. Touches of fresh grated ginger and vetiver linger with green tea notes on the finish. Drink now. 38,223 cases made. (Vintage 2022).

MaryAnn Worobiec writes: This has lovely richness to the chamomile and orange sherbet flavors at the core, with notes of lemon zest, apple and lemon blossoms on a medium frame. Drink now. - Wine Spectator (2022)
90 Points Tasting Panel | Made with grapes sourced throughout nine Sonoma County sub AVAs and partially fermented in stainless steel along with some neutral French oak, this compelling white blended with 2.5% Sémillon begins with a spark of energy. Lean and clean grapefruit bitters hold court with honeydew, dill, Asian pear, and white flowers. (2022).
