Based near Orange, north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and neighboring the vineyards of Château de Beaucastel, La Fagotière is a 17-hectare (42-acre), family-run domaine guided by fifth-generation siblings Pascal Chastan and Valérie Leoty. The family’s commitment to organic viticulture centers on thriving insect life, healthy soils and healthy vines.
Terroir & Winemaking
Vines averaging 50 years of age grow on clay over limestone, with the region’s characteristic galets pebbles and boulders evident in many plots. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected, with each plot vinified separately in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. Whole-berry fermentation lasts five to seven days, with daily pump-overs to develop fruit expression.
Winemaker Tasting Note
Complex aromas of red and black berries, revealing an elegant wine, deep with silky tannins.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Try with roast lamb, braised beef, mushroom dishes or a hearty vegetable gratin.
