Champagne Geoffroy’s Volupté Millésime is a refined and deeply expressive Blanc de Blancs produced entirely from Chardonnay grown in the Premier Cru village of Cumières in the Vallée de la Marne. The fruit comes from the chalk-rich lieux-dits of Tourne Midi and Les Chênes, parcels especially well suited to Chardonnay and prized for the mineral precision they bring to the finished wine.
The 2017 Volupté was fermented and aged in an equal combination of oak barrels and enamel-lined stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to preserve the vintage’s natural acidity and freshness. The Champagne then spent approximately 90 months aging on its lees before disgorgement, gaining exceptional texture, aromatic complexity and finely integrated bubbles. A very low dosage of just 2 grams per liter keeps the finish dry, focused and distinctly mineral.
In the glass, it displays a bright straw-gold color and an elegant bouquet of white peach, ripe lemon, green apple, smoky stone, raw hazelnut and subtle mocha. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with a creamy mousse, polished texture and bright, persistent acidity. Notes of candied citrus, white fruit and toasted nuts lead into a long, chalky and beautifully defined finish.
The domaine describes Volupté as a Champagne that combines refined white-fruit aromas with a chiseled attack, creamy texture, candied citrus, hazelnut and the chalky minerality characteristic of fine Chardonnay.
Professional Ratings
Jeb Dunnuck 93+ Points: "The 2017 Champagne Premier Cru Cumières Blanc de Blancs Volupte Extra Brut pours a bright straw/yellow color and reveals notes of mocha, ripe lemon balm, smoky wet stones, white peach, and raw hazelnut. It has a slight reduction, but it™s not pronounced. Medium-bodied, it has a silky texture and clean, bright acidity. Drink 2025-2040. Disgorged in November 2024 with 2 grams per liter dosage."
James Suckling 92 Points: "An overt and spicy wine full of toasty aromas with an exquisite mix of green apples and lemons. A bit of lanolin. Medium-sized bubbles with long chewy acidity and polished phenolics. Drink now."
