Geoffroy “Terre Millésime” 2015 is a vintage Premier Cru Champagne from the historic village of Cumières in the Vallée de la Marne. Produced only in selected years, this terroir-focused cuvée combines the ripe, generous character of the 2015 vintage with vibrant acidity, fine mineral tension and a beautifully dry Extra Brut finish.
The Place
Cumières is a Premier Cru village located west of Hautvillers, overlooking the Marne River. Its favorably exposed vineyards produce Champagnes known for their ripe fruit, vinous texture and expressive personality. Clay and limestone contribute richness and structure, while the underlying chalk preserves freshness and mineral definition.
The 2015 Vintage
The warm 2015 growing season produced concentrated, expressive fruit throughout Champagne. Careful harvesting allowed Geoffroy to preserve freshness and balance, resulting in a wine with generous texture, mature fruit and excellent aging potential.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. Gentle pressing and extended aging on the lees contribute complexity, a refined mousse and subtle notes of brioche and toasted nuts. A restrained Extra Brut dosage keeps the wine dry, precise and focused.
Professional Ratings
95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Sporting a medium straw/yellow color, the 2015 Champagne Premier Cru Cumières Millésime Terre Brut Nature offers spice and intensity in its ripe notes of apricot, black fruits, savory cologne, iodine, sea spray, and toast. Medium to full-bodied, it has volume without weight and is long on the palate, with a rounded mid-palate. Its mousse fleshes out and fills the palate, enhancing the wine's broader and fleshy structure. A more muscular wine, it has a touch more oak influence that frames the wine, while retaining its freshness very nicely, with persistent crystalline salinity through the finish. They do not produce this cuvée every year, but when they do, they hold it back ten years before disgorgement. In this vintage, it was 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Disgorged in July 2024. Drink 2025-2040."
93 Points James Suckling: "Spicy and expressive, this has aromas of grapefruit, cedar, cloves and gingerbread. It™s firm, dry and vinous, with toasty layers and rounded bubbles. 75% pinot noir and 25% chardonnay. Disgorged July 2024. Zero dosage. Drink now or hold."
93 Points Wine Advocate: "The most harmonious wine in Geoffroy™s portfolio this year, the 2015 Terre Cumieres Premier Cru, is"as always"the product of barrel and cask selection based on comprehensive tastings, followed by an extended maturation period sur lattes. As the selection is different from year to year, the assemblage is never identical"and can even be reversed. In 2015, however, it comprises 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. The bouquet is expressive, offering notes of dried orange peel, apricot, crisp pear and spice with a faint hint of sage. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and pillowy, with bright acidity and a taut, chalky core leading to a long, saline finish."
Tasting Notes
Aromas of ripe apple, pear, citrus peel and stone fruit are joined by notes of brioche, toasted almond, chalk and gentle spice.
The palate is layered and beautifully textured, with a creamy mousse framing orchard fruit, lemon and subtle savory flavors. Bright acidity and mineral tension balance the generous mid-palate, leading to a long, dry finish with lingering citrus, toast and chalk.
The Producer
The Geoffroy family has cultivated vineyards in Cumières since the 17th century. Today, Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy produces distinctive grower Champagnes that emphasize ripe fruit, careful vineyard work, long cellar aging and restrained dosage.
Food Pairing
An excellent gastronomic Champagne for roast chicken, lobster, scallops, mushroom risotto, veal, pork tenderloin and aged cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at approximately 48–52°F in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass or white-wine glass. The 2015 is drinking beautifully now and should continue developing richer brioche, toasted-nut and savory notes with additional bottle age.
