Winemaker's Notes
A beautifully refined expression of white Burgundy, Domaine Faiveley Rully Les Villeranges Blanc 2024 combines the purity of Chardonnay with the distinctive mineral character of Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise.
Brilliant pale yellow in color, the wine opens with delicate aromas of ripe orchard fruits, fresh pear, citrus and subtle flinty minerality. Hints of white flowers and gentle creaminess add complexity to its elegant bouquet.
On the palate, this sophisticated Chardonnay is smooth, rounded and wonderfully balanced, offering flavors of fresh melon, orchard fruit and citrus complemented by a delicate mineral backbone. A subtle creamy texture lends richness without sacrificing freshness, while lively acidity carries the wine through a precise, refreshing finish.
Both elegant and generous, Les Villeranges beautifully captures the charm, finesse and exceptional character of Rully Chardonnay.
About the Winery
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most distinguished family-owned wine estates. For seven generations, the Faiveley family has cultivated exceptional vineyards throughout the region, building a reputation for wines that faithfully express the identity of Burgundy's diverse terroirs.
Today, seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley oversees the estate alongside Technical Director and winemaker Jérôme Flous. Their approach combines centuries of Burgundian tradition with meticulous vineyard management and modern precision.
Domaine Faiveley's extensive holdings in the Côte Chalonnaise are particularly noteworthy, producing wines that offer exceptional regional character and craftsmanship beyond Burgundy's more famous Côte d'Or appellations.
The Vineyard & Terroir – Les Villeranges
Located in the historic village of Rully, Les Villeranges is among the most recognizable white-wine vineyard sites in the Côte Chalonnaise.
Domaine Faiveley's 5.65-hectare vineyard is planted on limestone and marly soils naturally low in iron, geological conditions that contribute to the wine's distinctive flinty and mineral characteristics.
The vines were planted in several stages, beginning in 1987, with additional plantings in 1990, 2009, 2013, 2018 and 2023.
This combination of mature and younger vines helps produce Chardonnay with generous fruit, aromatic complexity and refreshing balance.
Rully has an impressive winemaking heritage extending back centuries. Historical records indicate that in 1629, the village's wines were sufficiently prized that 22 barrels were sent to King Louis XIII.
Today, Rully remains one of Burgundy's most compelling appellations for elegant, mineral-driven Chardonnay.
The 2024 Vintage
The 2024 vintage in Burgundy was marked by challenging growing conditions, including significant rainfall and disease pressure, requiring careful vineyard work and rigorous fruit selection.
Despite these difficulties, successful Chardonnay wines from the Côte Chalonnaise show beautiful aromatic precision, vibrant acidity and impressive freshness.
Domaine Faiveley's Rully Les Villeranges 2024 reflects these qualities, combining ripe orchard fruit, subtle creaminess and distinctive mineral character with the lively acidity that makes fine white Burgundy so appealing.
Winemaking & Aging
Following careful fruit selection, Domaine Faiveley vinifies the Chardonnay using traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques designed to preserve aromatic purity and the vineyard's distinctive mineral expression.
The wine undergoes approximately 16 months of maturation, with 50% aged in French oak barrels and 50% in stainless steel tanks. Only around 10% of the barrels are new, ensuring that oak influence remains subtle and beautifully integrated.
Regular stirring of the lees during barrel maturation contributes additional richness, texture and complexity.
This thoughtful combination of oak and stainless steel allows Les Villeranges to develop a rounded, elegant mouthfeel while maintaining freshness, precision and vibrant Chardonnay fruit.
Food Pairings
A wonderfully versatile white Burgundy that pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass, roasted halibut, pan-seared scallops, grilled shrimp, lobster, roast chicken, creamy seafood pasta, mushroom risotto and fresh goat cheese.
Its bright acidity and mineral finish make it especially appealing alongside simply prepared fish, shellfish and delicate poultry dishes.
Suggested Serving Temperature: 50–54°F (10–12°C).
