Winemaker's Notes
A beautifully elegant expression of white Burgundy from the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Faiveley Mercurey Blanc 2024 showcases the purity, freshness and delicate charm of Chardonnay grown in the historic vineyards of Mercurey.
The inviting bouquet reveals elegant aromas of orchard fruit and delicate white flowers. On the palate, this refined Chardonnay is supple, fresh and beautifully balanced, offering gentle fruit flavors, subtle richness and a clean, harmonious finish.
Less overtly mineral than Domaine Faiveley's celebrated Clos Rochette, Mercurey Blanc offers a softer, more fragrant expression of the appellation, with a graceful texture and refreshing character that make it exceptionally enjoyable both as an aperitif and with food.
About the Winery
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most respected historic family-owned wine estates. For seven generations, the Faiveley family has cultivated some of the region's finest vineyards, building a remarkable reputation for wines that express the individuality and character of Burgundy's diverse terroirs.
Today, seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley oversees the family estate, working alongside Technical Director and winemaker Jérôme Flous. Together, they combine traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with meticulous vineyard management and contemporary precision, producing wines celebrated for their purity, elegance and balance.
The estate has an especially important presence in Mercurey, where its extensive vineyard holdings have helped establish Domaine Faiveley as one of the appellation's leading producers.
The Vineyard & Terroir – Mercurey
Located in Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, south of the prestigious Côte de Beaune, Mercurey is particularly renowned for its red Pinot Noir. White wines represent a much smaller portion of the appellation's production, making its Chardonnay bottlings particularly interesting discoveries for white Burgundy enthusiasts.
Domaine Faiveley's Mercurey Blanc is produced from approximately 3.03 hectares of south-facing vineyards, blending Chardonnay from several carefully selected parcels, including Les Montots and Bussière.
The vineyards feature classic Burgundian clay-limestone soils, which provide favorable conditions for Chardonnay to develop aromatic elegance, balanced fruit and refreshing acidity.
The estate's vines were planted in several stages, beginning in 1984, with additional plantings through 2022. This combination of mature and younger vines contributes to the wine's approachable character and expressive fruit profile.
The 2024 Vintage
The 2024 vintage presented Burgundy's growers with challenging weather conditions, including significant rainfall and disease pressure. Careful vineyard management, meticulous fruit selection and precise harvest decisions were essential to achieving high-quality wines.
For white Burgundy, the vintage generally emphasizes freshness, moderate ripeness and bright acidity, offering an appealing contrast to the richer character of warmer years.
Domaine Faiveley's Mercurey Blanc 2024 reflects the estate's focus on balance and aromatic purity, emphasizing the delicate floral and fruit-driven character of Chardonnay grown in the Côte Chalonnaise.
Winemaking & Aging
Domaine Faiveley employs careful fruit selection and traditional Burgundian white-wine production methods to preserve Chardonnay's natural aromatic elegance and freshness.
The estate's approach emphasizes controlled fermentation, thoughtful maturation and minimal interference with the vineyard's distinctive expression.
The resulting wine is fresh, supple and harmoniously balanced, highlighting the elegant orchard-fruit and floral characteristics of Mercurey Chardonnay.
Food Pairings
An exceptionally versatile white Burgundy that pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, roasted chicken, pan-seared scallops, baked cod, sole meunière, shrimp, creamy mushroom pasta, vegetable risotto and soft French cheeses.
Its gentle texture and refreshing acidity also make it an excellent companion to goat cheese, fresh salads and lighter poultry preparations.
Suggested Serving Temperature: 50–54°F (10–12°C).
Why We Love It
A charming white Burgundy from one of Mercurey's historic family estates — elegant Chardonnay with exceptional freshness and finesse.
While Mercurey is best known for its Pinot Noir, Domaine Faiveley's Mercurey Blanc demonstrates just how beautifully Chardonnay can express the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise.
With its south-facing vineyard parcels, classic clay-limestone terroir and nearly two centuries of family winemaking heritage, the 2024 offers an inviting combination of fragrant fruit, delicate florals and graceful balance.
An excellent discovery for Burgundy enthusiasts seeking an elegant, versatile and food-friendly Chardonnay beyond the more famous villages of the Côte de Beaune.
