Winemaker's Notes
A beautifully expressive Pinot Noir from Burgundy's charming Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Faiveley Givry Champ-Lalot Rouge 2023 showcases the elegance, freshness and distinctive personality of mature vines in an exceptional vineyard setting.
Bright ruby-red in color, the wine opens with delicate aromas of spring flowers, violets, fresh raspberries and ripe red cherries. Subtle earthy nuances and gentle spice add complexity to its inviting bouquet.
On the palate, this refined Burgundy reveals vibrant red-fruit flavors, silky texture and beautifully balanced acidity. Fine, polished tannins provide structure without overwhelming the delicate fruit, while subtle mineral and savory notes carry through to a graceful, refreshing finish.
The combination of expressive fruit, floral elegance and natural freshness makes this an exceptionally charming and food-friendly red Burgundy.
About the Winery
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most celebrated family-owned wine estates. For seven generations, the Faiveley family has cultivated an extraordinary collection of vineyards, establishing a reputation for producing wines that faithfully express the individual character of Burgundy's diverse terroirs.
Today, seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley guides the estate alongside Technical Director and winemaker Jérôme Flous. Their approach combines traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with meticulous vineyard management and modern precision, producing wines celebrated for their purity, balance and elegance.
The Vineyard & Terroir – Champ-Lalot
Situated in the village of Givry in Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, Champ-Lalot is a distinctive, nearly four-hectare vineyard owned by Domaine Faiveley.
The vines, principally planted in 1975 and 1979, have reached an age that encourages naturally concentrated fruit and a beautifully nuanced expression of Pinot Noir.
The vineyard enjoys a favorable southeastern exposure, capturing the morning sunlight and promoting balanced ripening throughout the growing season.
Its unusual loamy soils, containing relatively little clay, warm early and can develop natural cracks during the hottest summer days. These conditions contribute to the vineyard's characteristic structure, pronounced aromatics and distinctive rustic character, while the favorable exposure adds refinement and elegance.
The resulting wine offers a wonderful balance between the fruit-driven charm of Givry and the complexity expected from a carefully tended Burgundian vineyard.
The 2023 Vintage
The 2023 growing season in Burgundy delivered generous sunshine and favorable periods of ripening, producing expressive Pinot Noir with attractive fruit concentration and freshness.
Careful vineyard management and thoughtful harvest decisions allowed Domaine Faiveley to preserve the delicate aromatics and vibrant acidity essential to great Burgundy.
In Champ-Lalot, the 2023 vintage reveals a harmonious combination of ripe red berries, floral perfume, supple tannins and lively freshness, making it particularly appealing for early enjoyment.
Winemaking & Aging
Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to preserve the quality and purity of the fruit.
Traditional Burgundian fermentation techniques, including gentle extraction and careful temperature management, develop the wine's color, aromatics and refined tannic structure while maintaining the naturally delicate character of Pinot Noir.
The wine is matured for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, with just 10% new oak. This restrained oak treatment enhances texture and subtle complexity without masking the vibrant fruit and floral notes that define Champ-Lalot.
Food Pairings
An exceptionally versatile Burgundy that pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto, charcuterie, pâté en croûte, grilled veal and soft French cheeses.
Its refreshing acidity and delicate structure make it particularly enjoyable alongside herb-roasted poultry, pork with mustard sauce and classic Burgundian dishes.
Serving Temperature: 57–61°F (14–16°C).
