Winemaker's Notes
An extraordinary expression of one of Burgundy's most legendary Grand Cru vineyards, Domaine Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2022 combines remarkable power, concentration and refinement with the elegance that defines the finest Pinot Noir of the Côte de Nuits.
Deep ruby-red in color, this magnificent Burgundy reveals a complex and captivating bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackberries and dark raspberries, interwoven with delicate aromas of roses, violets, warm spice and subtle toasted oak.
On the palate, the wine is rich, full-bodied and beautifully layered, offering concentrated dark fruit, fine smoky oak nuances and a remarkable depth of flavor. Its initial supple, velvety texture gradually gives way to powerful yet polished tannins, supported by vibrant acidity and a firm mineral backbone.
The finish is exceptionally long, revealing lingering notes of dark berries, spice and elegant earthiness. A profoundly structured and age-worthy Pinot Noir that promises to develop extraordinary complexity over time.
Expert Rating
James Suckling 96 Points - Very fleshy, suave and fragrant. This has excellent concentration and beautiful harmony of ripe fruit with fine toasty, smoky oak plus ample velvety tannins.
About the Winery
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most distinguished and historic family-owned wine estates. For seven generations, the Faiveley family has cultivated exceptional vineyards throughout the region, establishing a reputation for wines of remarkable purity, structure and terroir expression.
Today, seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley guides the estate alongside Technical Director and winemaker Jérôme Flous. Together, they combine traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with meticulous vineyard management and modern precision, producing some of the region's most celebrated Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.
Domaine Faiveley's Grand Cru holdings represent the pinnacle of its winemaking heritage, with Clos de Vougeot occupying a particularly distinguished place in the estate's extraordinary portfolio.
The Vineyard & Terroir – Historic Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Clos de Vougeot is among Burgundy's most famous and historically significant vineyards. Originally developed by the Cistercian monks of nearby Cîteaux Abbey beginning in the 12th century, this remarkable walled vineyard covers approximately 50 hectares in the heart of the Côte de Nuits.
Despite its unified Grand Cru classification, Clos de Vougeot is divided among approximately 82 owners, making individual vineyard holdings and winemaking philosophies particularly important to the character of each producer's wine.
Domaine Faiveley owns approximately 1.27 hectares spread across three distinctive parcels. Two extend from the lower portion toward the middle of the vineyard, while a third lies near the historic Château du Clos de Vougeot.
The lower parcels benefit from deep, marl-rich soils that retain moisture during dry growing seasons, while the vineyard's varying elevations and soil compositions contribute complexity, structure and aromatic diversity.
Vines planted between 1940 and 2013 provide a combination of mature-vine concentration and vibrant fruit character, allowing Domaine Faiveley to produce a Grand Cru of remarkable depth, balance and longevity.
The 2022 Vintage
The 2022 growing season in Burgundy was marked by warm, sunny conditions that encouraged excellent grape ripeness while allowing successful producers to preserve freshness and balance.
Widely admired for its combination of generous fruit, expressive aromatics and fine structure, the vintage produced compelling wines throughout the Côte de Nuits.
Domaine Faiveley's Clos de Vougeot 2022 beautifully reflects these qualities, offering intense dark-fruit concentration, a rich and layered palate, polished tannins and vibrant acidity.
Its impressive structure and exceptional balance position it among the estate's serious, cellar-worthy Grand Cru bottlings.
Winemaking & Aging
Domaine Faiveley crafts Clos de Vougeot using meticulous fruit selection and carefully controlled Burgundian vinification techniques designed to preserve the concentration and individuality of its Grand Cru vineyard parcels.
Fermentation and gentle extraction develop the wine's deep color, complex aromatics and substantial yet refined tannic structure.
Maturation in French oak barrels contributes subtle toasted spice, additional texture and complexity while supporting the wine's impressive aging potential.
The result is a powerful yet remarkably harmonious Pinot Noir that faithfully expresses the historic terroir of Clos de Vougeot.
Food Pairings
An exceptional Grand Cru Burgundy that deserves equally refined cuisine.
Pair with roasted duck breast, beef Wellington, filet mignon, venison, rack of lamb, wild mushroom dishes, truffle risotto, slow-braised short ribs and aged French cheeses such as Comté or Époisses.
Its richness, structural complexity and earthy undertones make it especially compelling alongside roasted game and dishes featuring black truffles or wild mushrooms.
Suggested Serving Temperature: 60–64°F (16–18°C).
Cellaring: Best enjoyed after additional bottle aging, with substantial potential for graceful development over the next two decades.
