Domaine de la Solitude Pessac-Leognan Rouge 2022 · Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France
History
The Wine Estate “Domaine de la Solitude” in the 17th century, Hélène Barberini, a descendant of the illustrious Tuscan family of the same name, married Claude Martin, owner of a vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their grandson would give a huge boost to “La Solitude” by creating the first label for the Appellation. Thus, “le Vin de la Solitude” became a symbol of quality and began to be exported, allowing a great terroir to come into its own.
Expert Reviews - Vintage 2022
James Suckling, 93 Points — Very perfumed, bright and crunchy. Rose petals, lemons and other citrus fruits. Medium body with citrus and raspberry flavors. Linear and long with lovely energy and vivacity. Drinkable now, but better in a couple of years.
Decanter, 93 Points — Deep and highly aromatic on the nose - freshly picked red berries with dried herbs and a touch of liquorice. Supple and forward, this has nice energy and bounce. Creamy, super juicy and with a cooling mineral bite that comes across as slightly spiced with graphite and pencil lead accents and a slight chalky powderiness on the tongue. Really lovely frame and focus. Great to drink now, has plenty of punch but with lovely finesse too. Easy to enjoy this.
Vinous Media, 92 Points — The 2022 Domaine de la Solitude is soft, open-knit and very appealing. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, orange peel and cinnamon build effortlessly in the glass.

Expert Reviews - Prior Vintage 2020
Decanter 94 Points | Gorgeous intensity of aromatics on the nose, really so full and alive full of blackcurrant, black cherry and roses. Intense on the palate, straight away a wave of ripe and juicy, aimost tart fruit hits the tongue but edged by a soft creaminess that counters the acidity and gives a roundness to the expression. Still lightly framed, the tannins are not plush, this is more linear and straight at the moment, the oak giving it tension and narrowing the focus overall. But it’s superbly well worked with the best juicy core. Really soft, velvety tannins too giving a crushed stone, powdery element to the finish. Still feels extremely youthful but this will be delicious in a few years. Easy enjoyment.
The Wine Enthusiast 92 Points | From convent vineyards that are managed by Domaine de Chevalier, this wine is elegant, with a good proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and berry flavors to match the structure. It has an attractive, fruity backdrop. Drink from 2026.
James Suckling 92 Points | Plenty of chocolate and tobacco aromas with currants and blackberries. Medium-bodied with juicy fruit. Fine and creamy tannins. Savory and fruity finish.
Jeb Dunnuck 92 Points | The 2020 Domaine De La Solitude (Pessac-Léognan) is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, and in general, 2020 was a good year for Petit Verdot. Deep purple-hued, with a complex, pretty, perfumed bouquet of redcurrants, darker cherries, and sappy herbs, it has an almost salty, liquid rock-like minerality on the palate, is medium-bodied, and has fine tannins as well as outstanding balance.
