The Chianti Classico Riserva is central to Badia a Coltibuono’s vision and its deep relationship with place and history. Using the traditional blend of Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, and Ciliegiolo — propagated by massal selection — has always been the backbone of the wine. Modern techniques such as gravity vinification bring forth the best expression of the fruit, while traditional approaches — indigenous yeast fermentation and aging in oak casks rather than barriques — are central to its authenticity. The winery’s long-established certified organic practices are fundamental to the truly unique character of the grapes.

• Wine Spectator 93 pts | Raspberry and kirsch aromas and flavors with iron, eucalyptus, wild herbs, and spices. Impressive up front yet still needs time to resolve the assertive tannins. Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, and Ciliegiolo.
• James Suckling 92 pts | Complete and balanced with good fruit concentration, freshness, and vibrancy. Red berries, spices, and dried orange peel with medium to full body, tense acidity, and compact but nicely ripened tannins. Lingering finish.
