This Grand Cru rosé Champagne is a vibrant and expressive interpretation of Bouzy, one of the most celebrated Pinot Noir villages in the Montagne de Reims. Produced entirely from estate-grown fruit, it combines ripe red-fruit character and vinous depth with the freshness, fine bubbles and mineral precision expected from Champagne Paul Bara.
96 Points Decanter magazine: Enticing creamy raspberry and ground almond notes which propel over the pink grapefruit acidity and gorgeous glowing, silky mousse. Delicate with a crushed red fruit ending.
93 Points James Suckling: Attractive fruit with sliced-strawberry and apple aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with fresh apples and citrus as well as touches of heather and bread dough. Tangy at the end. 70% pinot noir, 10% Bouzy rouge and 20% chardonnay.
The blend is composed of 80% Pinot Noir, including 12% Bouzy Rouge, and 20% Chardonnay. The addition of estate-produced Bouzy Rouge gives the Champagne its attractive rosé color while contributing greater richness, structure and red-fruit complexity.
In the glass, the wine displays a luminous salmon-pink color and a fine, persistent mousse. The bouquet is expressive and inviting, with aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry and red cherry accompanied by notes of dried apricot, citrus peel and delicate flowers. With air, subtle accents of almond, biscuit and gentle spice begin to emerge.
The palate is lively, generous and beautifully balanced. Juicy red fruit is supported by refreshing acidity and a fine mineral backbone, while extended lees aging contributes a smooth, creamy texture and delicate notes of brioche. The finish is dry, focused and persistent, with lingering red-fruit, citrus and savory mineral notes.
Only the first pressing of the grapes is used. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, and malolactic fermentation is avoided for the white and rosé wines to preserve freshness and natural acidity. The Champagne is aged for approximately four years on its lees before release, developing greater texture and complexity while retaining its vibrant fruit.
The Bara family has been closely associated with the Grand Cru village of Bouzy since 1833. The estate farms approximately 11 hectares of vineyards planted primarily to Pinot Noir, with a smaller proportion of Chardonnay. Its Champagnes are known for their combination of ripe fruit, fine structure, freshness and a distinctive expression of Bouzy’s clay-limestone and chalk-rich terroir.
